Review of the Are You Owed Money, Debt Collection:

A Scam. That's Not What was Promised

1
Case No: AY-5160-0624 In November 2022 AYOM Contacted me, through their facilitator Mr * ******, to discuss my case for a debt collection. We agreed a date to call to discuss. In the meantime, AYOM asked me to send all the necessary documents for them to review prior to the next phone call. One of the documents included a a confirmation that my debtor had made me a verbal unacceptable offer of £5,000 to settle the case. During the appointed 10-minute telephone call with Mr *******, I was told that AYOM will have an 85% chance of recovering the debt including the reduced AYOM fee of £1500 (Incl VAT) which AYOM would charge me. Mr ***** assured me that my case was solid. I sent AYOM all relevant documents prior to signing the contract to ensure that all is kosher, and asked AYOM to let me know if there is anything else they require. In late December the contract was signed and the agreed fee of £1500 was paid. Days and weeks passed with little progress. In mid February 2023, AYOM emailed me requesting written proof of the client's offer to settle. I reminded them of the letter (copied to AYOM in November) which I had sent to the client confirming my rejection of his verbal offer of £5,000. AYOM did not respond to that. AYOM claimed I did not inform Mr ******* (of the verbal offer) during our 10-minute phone call. I disputed that and demanded a transcript of that phone call. On 15 March, AYOM emailed me only two lines of that 10 Minute phone call which did not proof their allegation. Back and forth between AYOM and myself to no avail and without AYOM responding to my request to prove their allegations. I requested, as within my legal rights, copies of whatever correspondence or telephone contacts AYOM had with my Debtor/Client to show what efforts has AYOM made towards resolving my case. Nothing. I wrote AYOM demanding the refund of the £1500 fee paid. But they refused. They closed my case. All attempts to contact AYOM by email remained unanswered or repeating the same allegation without proof. All telephone attempts to contact Customer Services, the Legal section or Mr *******, were diverted to "Collection" who advised me that they will pass my query by email to the relevant section and urged me to wait. The last automated reply from AYOM was dated 9.6.2023 which said: "The team will respond to all client enquiries / updates as soon as possible. We are experiencing high volumes of enquiries, so please allow up-to 2 working weeks for a response. If your enquiry is urgent, please call 0333 355 7114 to speak to one of the Customer Services Team". Nothing since.. I am now going legal unless they pay up in 14 days. Reviewed on: 24th July 2023
Reply from Are You Owed Money Good afternoon Antoine. All cases we accept are based on the information provided by our clients. The details given to us were what made us believe we could have success working this case. It transpired what information was given to us at the outset was not sufficient to enable us to continue the case on the initial premise. We asked for additional evidence which would support any claim you wish to make but you were unable to provide this. We dispute your claim that the case was a “total failure”. We worked the case fully with what information we were given and updated you when we required additional information. Regards, the AYOM team. Response date: 25th July 2023

Absolute scammers

I registered with AYOM in February 2021 to recover debt from client who did not pay their invoice. I was promised successful action and that they will not only send correspondence to the debtor but will also visit their premises to communicate directly. For 6 months they were only sending automated text messages and some letters, and calls but there was no visit. After 6 months the debt was not recovered, I was advised about filling the claim in Small Claims Court. AYOM's legal department prepared claim and sent to the court, but I paid the fees and conducted all further work with the court case. Finally client paid, but not as a result of AYOM's activity, but as a result of my claim. After the client paid, AYOM charged me almost £700 of "success fee", which they should not, as none of their actions resulted in debt recovery. However their legal department (despite claiming that they do not provide legal advice), stated " don't worry, we can now legally claim it back, as the order was made". They wanted to make another claim but I refused, worried about yet another "success fee"! I made the claim myself, as per their advice, and in June 2023 the claim was rejected by the judge as "abuse of process" as AYOM should know that debt recovery fees MUST be claimed as a part of initial claim, and any secondary claims are indeed abuse of process. I was yet again completely mislead by AYOM, and they should have known that. I did not only pay success fee for success that I achieved myself, but I was also mislead with regards to the advice of their legal department (if they have legal department and legal professionals – this means they DO offer legal advice), which costed me additional money spent on court application, two days loss of income (cancelled bookings, the case was initially adjourned), travel costs, printing costs for the bundle, postage costs. Complaint process with AYOM proved to be unsuccessful, with their customer service providing answers that were contradictory and claiming their success and at the same time stating that claims were mine and I was supposed to check them. I do not have legal experience or knowledge, that's why I hired professional company with legal department. I would not know if the claim was correct. I was mislead about entire process. I would also like to complain about the delays with dealing with my case, my need of frequent reminders and their response that I am not a priority client and was pushed to the back of the queue. I would like my "success fee" refunded, along with other costs I had, because if their misguidance. Reviewed on: 18th July 2023

AYOM collected a debt for me in November 2022. This should have been paid to me 13/2/23. Several people from AYOM have acknowledged this but no payment has been made. I have made numerous calls to AYOM all I have had from them is lies. I have sent them numerous emails to Customer Services, Finance, *** ***- MD, Customer Feedback. All have been ignored. I have followed their Complaints Procedure- ignored. They respond to negative reviews telling you to send information to their Customer Feedback email address. This is ignored and purely done to make as look as though they are going to do something. This is yet another lie. My recommendation is to find another way of collecting your debts as I believe AYOM is a rogue company. Whenever a negative review goes up on Trustpilot it is followed by a 5 star review. I wonder who could be adding those!!!! THIS COMPANY IS CURRENTLY 13TH OUT OF 13 IN TRUSTPILOT'S BEST DEBT COLLECTING COMPANY CATEGORY. THIS COMPANY IS CURRENTLY 14TH OUT OF 16 IN TRUSTPILOT'S BEST DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY CATEGORY. THAT SAYS IT ALL. Reviewed on: 30th March 2023

We can see as you stated above, we have made contact previously with you about your case and are happy to assist when convenient. We have a lot of success with many customers as evidenced by these reviews. Any rhetoric suggesting that these reviews are anything other than customers is hearsay. Kind regards, the AYOM team. 3 years ago I placed a debt with this company and despite the debtor paying monthly contributions have not received a penny. My emails are either fobbed off or ignored. I have contacted a solicitor and have been advised to speak to the police. Once this has been reported I will go through the solicitor - it may cost more but at least I know they are legal and acting in my best interest!! Reviewed on: 7th March 2023

I approached AYOM in later 2019 to recover a debt and belongings from my ex fiancé Their representative attended my home and showed him documentation that supported my case. He reassured me that my case was solid and that AYOM would have no trouble recovering my money to the the point of the Debtors bankruptcy if necessary He left a contract and emailed me proposal. I explained that based on previous case of mine back in 1995 I was hesitant I was then pestered with calls and e-mails from the representative and agreed to pay £3800 in advance. AYOM wrote to the debtor and made numerous phone calls without success which resulted in the debtor reporting them and myself to the police The AYOM representative explained that this was a common course of action by debtors and would not push them off? The police investigation concluded with no evidence I requested AYOM take further steps for recovery but they explained they were too busy with home visits and had postponed all such activities We then entered lockdown and I have called AYOM numerous times and had no funds and action by themselves other than on one occasion a representative of their company called me and asked to to remove my Trustpilot review on the reassurance that she would investigate matters I never heard anything Trust Pilot have removed three previous reviews of AYOM by myself? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! TOTAL SCAM!!

Please, I urge you please not to use this company. They get you to hand over money straight away with no mention about their T's & C's AYOM just tell you that they can get you the debt with no problem at all. I paid £1100 and it's turned out into nothing more than a bet! Because that's all it is. I am going to take these guys to the small claims court to get my money back. You can't ring them up and if you do you just get told off for ringing up. Also takes them 14 working days to reply to emails. The customer portal is vaguest piece of information gathering ever..a complete waste of time! AYOM don't even tell you about the 90 days holding perod for your money. They say it's to prevent charge backs but it's not it's all about them getting more money off the intrest they earn of that money. You get suckered in because you are told straight away that they can get this debt and you think great its an easy win! But this couldn't be any further from the truth. Like I say please avoid at all costs Reviewed on: 7th September 2022

Following a 90 days period after collection AYOM customer service are unable to tell me when I will get paid and the finance department do not reply. It's been 120 days now since they collected money and I have not seen a penny of it with no communication when I will other than "the finance department have not replied to us" This is un unethical company that hold on to money collected as long as they possibly can (and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here that I will eventually get my money back - avoid. I get in touch with this company last year in July due one of my clients didn't pay my last invoice, at the moment that I called they immediately ask me to pay instantly the fee that they have, and I did. After 1 month the creditor paid the invoice and received a confirmation for the payment, at this point, you think wow all done, fantastic, so fast, and professional. Wrong, at the same moment, start my Odissea with this company, First, they told me that I have to wait up to 90days to get my money, and I did, after 3 months they told me that my check was in progress of payment ( November 2021 ) So I waited, in December I called and they said that the payment was due by the end of the month. In January I called again and nobody was able to give me an explanation why I haven't received my check. In February same, called and get a new excuse, sorry we missed the payment date, you will receive the check on the next payment date, Now is the 14 of March and after another call the new excuse, sorry we got the postcode wrong, we will send the correct information to the financial team, Basically, 6 months 20 emails 30 calls And nothing has changed, So if you need someone to chase up your creditors for any reason, don't get in touch with this company, is a scam, the taking your payment immediately and they let you wait for months and months for giving you want is yours. Perhaps I regret the moment that I get in touch with AYOM. Reviewed on: 14th March 2022
