Do not use this company

Updated to previous review on Trustpilot. If you are a parent of a new driver or new driver, under no circumstances use this company.

All they do is take a hefty deposit and then within months cancel the policy for false reasons. 

My daughter received an email to say that they had been notified by the black box of a speed issue and were therefore cancelling the policy. No details of where this took place or anything. 

After finally getting through to speak to someone they confirmed the location as being on a road that had a 50mph speed limit which my daughter was within. The road goes over an underpass where this road is 40mph. On explanation of this the carrot employee said she could see this and would contest the cancellation.

Yesterday at 5.04pm after a number of calls to find out what was happening we received the following voicemail. “Hello this is Charlotte from carrot insurance and I’m calling regarding your policy. Just calling to let you know that the speed has been verified as incorrect and therefore your policy will be cancelled tonight last night at 23.59. Thank you very much. “ This is the exact word for word message that was left. 

How can the speed be verified as incorrect but the policy is to be cancelled. Which then leads it on to when is it cancelled, tonight, last night, who knows as both were said.

From reading other reviews it’s clearly obvious that this company takes a large up front deposit and then uses any means possible to then cancel the insurance.

My daughter’s telematics have always been in green and within the designated range they state including the day of this alleged breach.

Please if you are a parent of a new driver or a new driver DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, it will only cost you money for a service that is not fit for purpose.

All relevant information and evidence including video footage of the road in question have now been sent to the FCA and relevant legal bodies regarding the process of taking large up front payments and then cancelling polices without a true reason. Reviewed on: 14th March 2024

Absolutely disgusting I called carrot after receiving a letter to inform me my policy had been cancelled. I was informed they had sent a notification of cancellation 7 days prior to this (I am still to receive this letter). Carrot advised my insurance had been cancelled as I had exceeded my allowed miles, I argued this as I purchased another 2000 miles just a few weeks before changing my car and I have not drove this car very far at all! They were adamant their gps system is correct and I had in fact exceeded these miles around 2 weeks ago (utter nonsense). They agreed to investigate but advised I would not be insured on my car pending their decision (which is illegal). As I told carrot I will be driving my car under the impression I am insured until the issue is resolved. Absolute joke of a company with NO customer service skills. All they want is your money and will charge an obscene amount for any little change to your policy - £150 to change my car?! I ADVISE EVERYONE TO STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS EXCUSE OF AN INSURANCE BROKER Reviewed on: 1st November 2016

Not as good as first impression

After an initial phone call, I was impressed with what I heard about carrot and, as my quote was only valid for 24 hours, I bought car insurance early. They threatened to cancel my policy as they hadn't fit a black box in my car, because my previous insurance had not ended and thus their one not started and so they could not physically put one in. I had to make several phone calls regarding it only to be told i should have notified carrot i had black box insurance before, which i did in the beginning. Second to that, on the day my insurance went live they told me i was not the policy holder at my previous policy and thus i owed them more money. Several phone calls later, they agreed they made the mistake, however pointing out that they didn't believe i had 1 years no discount as i had not had a licence for a year, completely not acknowledging the fact that you can have insurance as a provisional driver.
