Read the small print

I bought a Vauxhall Adam for my daughter, and insured her for a full 12 months with Collingwood to help her pass her test. At £191.50, the policy was fantastic value. The low price is what helped me make the final decision to actually get her the car, but that is exactly where the positives end. We only needed the insurance for two months before she passed her test. When I went to cancel, the hidden fees hit. They even tried to argue the policy had rolled into the third month. After only 60 days of being insured on a 12-month policy, my total refund was £18.75. It is an absolute joke. Pros: The initial price is genuinely great for learners. Cons: Completely untrustworthy when it comes to cancellation. The extortionate exit fees wipe out any savings you thought you made. Bottom line: Read the small print very carefully if there is any chance you won't use the entire 12-month policy. Also when you cancel they put you through to their partners who are VERY PUSHY - do not agree to be transferred as the price was way higher than comparison websites. Reviewed on: 11th June 2026

Disgusting practice of hidden charges!

1
After using them twice before we took out a third policy for when my youngest learnt to drive. When he passed his test they charged us another £40 cancellation fee on top of the £250 paid for the policy. The very rude and unhelpful customer services person said it was all in the T&C's but it was so deeply hidden I struggled to find it and they don't make you aware of it knowing full well you won't see it until they sting you for it later. Avoid these at all costs! Reviewed on: 28th May 2026

Unexpected charges at the end!!

Cheap at the start but be warned!! Expect a charge of anything from £40 to £120 when you HAVE to cancel the policy after passing your driving test. AVOID! Avoid!! Avoid!! Reviewed on: 15th March 2026

Brought learners car insurance for daughter. Had to cancel as car went brought was faulty and sent back to the garage. Cancelled insurance within 6 days kept £65 of the money. I've asked about the 14 day cooling off period, it doesn't exist. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Reviewed on: 7th January 2026

Hidden T&C's - adds £40 when cancelling.

1
Hidden T&C's - adds £40 when cancelling. There is no website journey & transparency as they claim in their review responses. This company disguises the T&Cs that covers the hidden cancellation elements when the learner driver passes the driving test. They are actually capitalising on the "known- unknown", i.e when a learner driver passes the test. So technically, they sell policies for £250 and you wont get anything back if you pass the test (i.e cancel the learner driver policy) after 4 months. They will levy this fees without refunding any excess term left on the policy. On the outset £250 for a learner policy seems cheap, but there is the hidden catch of £40 on top of it. so consider it as £290. Reviewed on: 23rd October 2025
