Don't waste your time with the co-op

Shocking. I applied for a first time buyer mortgage with these lot. Waste of time. They had the best rates at the time so I applied and provided all the paperwork they requested. Then I heard nothing for two weeks. They then asked for some more paperwork, which I provided on the same day it was requested. Then I heard nothing again. After another week they requested a damp survey be completed. I arranged for this to be completed the following week. Then, the day before the survey was due to take place, they rejected me. They rejected me because the property was going to be used as a holiday home and then for my retirement. Why that would cause any issues at all is beyond me. I'd also informed them on the day I applied that that was what the property was going to be used for. The whole process took eight weeks! Why waste my time and risk me losing the property because they were so slow is unforgiveable. They knew from day one what I would be using the property for, but they still made me jump through loads of hoops just to turn me down for something they'd known all along is a shocking way to run a business. The time they took was ridiculous. I applied for a mortgage from santander and two weeks later I was approved for a mortgage. And they were also told the property would be a holiday home and then retirement property and they had no issues with that. Why the co-op wasted my time fir so long without once mentioning that they had an issue with my use of the property is a joke. And why make me get a survey done only to reject my application the day before the survey was due to take place just goes to show how little they care for potential customers. I will never waste my time with this bunch of fools again. Avoid them at all costs. Reviewed on: 14th April 2025

The (NON) Cooperative Bank.

This company is worse than Virgin Media in customer service and that's saying something!. No one answers the phone. Ive been trying to obtain a redemption figure to close the sale of a house. Today 05.04.2024 I was on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes. The email to request a mortgage redemption figure can take up to 5 days for a response. The customer complaint email acknowldges a complaint but it can up to 8 weeks to resolve. Thank goodness I'm leaving as a customer. The worst I've experienced. Mortgage rate won. No app.

It's a mortgage so it does what it needs to do and their rate was better. So it does the job. There is no app though which makes it hard to track how much you owe (that functionality was much better on HSBC) Reviewed on: 15th March 2024

This is the worst service I have ever used.

This is the worst service I have ever used. The only way to contact them is by phone and they simply do not pick up. I have spent a combined 4 hours on hold today as they keep hanging up on me. It seems they are just trying to avoid users. Reviewed on: 23rd February 2024

Ethical? I don't think so ...

I wanted to believe that this was an organisation I could trust - silly me! In 2008 I joined the Coop under the Ownhome mortgage deal and was given every assurance that this would always give me access to the full range of their mortgage deals. In 2018, when I have come to the end of my 2nd fixed term deal, Coop have changed their minds and are no longer offering any Ownhome clients any mortgage deals. That puts me on their standard variable rate with no option other than to move the mortgage to another vendor (if one is available!) or revert to their 4.99% Standard Variable Rate. I don't really have enough words to explain how deeply disgusted I am in the way Coop have acted. Even worse any complaint I make will not change what is happening or bring any sanctions to the bank. They throw every obstacle in the way that they can. They really don't want you to switch product or move house. They want you to stay put, preferably on the standard variable rate for the next 23 years of your miserable existence Reviewed on: 15th November 2017
