Rubbish customer service

I want to dial a number and speak to a person, not dial a number and have to go through stacks of menus and submenus... I want to dial a number and speak to a person, not dial a number and have to go through stacks of menus and submenus AND a wait, which I pay for presumably. Even when I press # # it goes to another menu. I just want a number that goes straight to a person. And for the bank not to answer it unless someone is free, so I don't have to pay for listening to bad music. Why They don't allow you to email them with questions. I suspect they invest in Israeli genocide. They push people to use mobile phones, and make things difficult for people who don't have one, or refuse to share the number. Email or landline are the only two 2FA options that work for me. I've had emails from them saying never to give personal details when rung up. But I had an automated call 2024-09-20 saying it was from the Coop to confirm recent transactions, then it asked me to select my year of birth and type in my month and date of birth. Obviously that is asking for personal details. So why does the Coop lie when it says it would never ask for them? There are no branches near me any more, which makes things a lot harder. The Co-op regularly cancels minor transactions for silly "fraud" reasons (it is never a fraud), causing extra hassle. The procedure for then dealing with it makes it worse - an automated call asking for security details, even though you always say not to give them out overt he phone. Their anti-fraud system actually opens up loopholes for fraud and data-gathering. Why does the bank waste money and resources sending out millions of "foreign payment" print letters even when customers are registered to receive electronic statements only? Even more of a waste as the transactions are already on statements, so it is just telling people twice about the same (completely standard) transaction. It makes a mockery of environmental claims. Basic things screwed up. For example, the order of transactions in a downloaded statement (chronological order) is the opposite to the order on a downloaded spreadsheet (reverse chronological order). Don’t make titles mandatory on debit cards or anywhere else. They are old-fashioned and many people don’t use them any more. I’m sick of going to accounts, and it always has an icon of a blue present and "Upgrade to an Everyday Extra account" as if it is a freebie. So you click. No, just the opposite - a bank account where I would have to pay THEM, and things I'd never use. So framing it as a gift, when really it would cost me. Awful and dishonest marketing. The link was there for months, pushing it even if you won't use it. Can't get rid of it. Read more Read less

Opening the account was a tedious process with constant requests for more information to prove my business credentials despite having been trading for 35 years. The mobile banking app is slow and not user friendly. You cannot save any login details so each time you have to enter them afresh. The HID app security token generator is slow and doesn't always work. Despite the website saying you can get physical token generators, no more are in stock, so you're stuck with the HID app. Customer service on phone is slow with long waits. Despite having a high street branch in Southampton, having dropped in with a query, they have informed me that they only support personal account customers and not business accounts which have to use the telephone enquiry line. Interest rates on linked savings account is really poor. Rather disappointingly, I have now discovered that it's one of the worst accounts to link with Xero software, that's going to make MTD reporting even more hassle. Finally, although a really small point, it's annoying that account number and sort code are not printed on the debit card to have the information easily to hand. Very unimpressed. The Co-operative Bamk is THE only ethical and environmental Bank, rated as such by Ethical Consumer AND Which? Money magazine. I switched to them a year ago for this reason (and received £175 for doing so). Their savings accounts interest rates paid are great (7% currently for the Regular Saver) and their customer service, especially when requesting CHAPS or making larger payments by phone, is excellent. They take security extremely seriously too - checking and double checking to make sure I know what I'm doing and keeping me safe especially for larger payments (Ive had lots of those in the past year due to moving home). This sometimes takes a little longer as occasionally I have to listen to the same warnings/answer the same kind of questions more than once - but better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. I feel happy knowing my bank doesn't invest in/trade with dodgy environmental or military or politically questionable businesses/activities/parties and knowing that, as with all Co-operative services, they are member-owned and governed means that for me, they are the only bank I would choose now.
