They don't employ enough staff to serve the Customers!

I switched to the co-op when tesco switched to barclays, could not be doing with blood money. So the co-op is supposed to be more ethical and that is good. However, I have had the card now for 5 months and cannot use it because I have not set up the direct debit for repayments. It is IMPOSSIBLE to set this on online and the only option is to call them up. I have wasted hours upon hours waiting for someone to answer the call but they are ALWAYS "experiencing exceptionally high call volumes"! They are clearly not so ethical if they will not employ the staff to serve their Customer base! Reviewed on: 16th February 2025

Like banking in the dark ages

Like banking in the dark ages, nothing can be done online or on the app. Security is lax, they wanted me to tell the customer services person an entire password to create it when they also have all my details. Would not recommend Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Unusable members credit card that you have ring up each time to get permission

Once again couldn't do an online transaction for less than £100 ,phoned up and I was told they couldn't tell me the reason it was blocked ,but offered to unblock it for me ,stopped on the line whilst it was completed. Reviewed on: 22nd December 2023

Unreliable Credit Card

The bank has a systems problem and keep blocking on-line payments made by their Visa Credit Card for security reasons without justification…..can take up to an hour on the phone to get the block lifted! Reviewed on: 12th June 2023

Don't get this card, most abusive and unhelpful bank in the UK

My mother is in an end of life care bed. She cannot manage her own affairs- that task is left to me, her only living relative and next of kin, with power of attorney. Someone has spent some money on my mothers card, not a lot, but enough to cause problems because I, living in Australia cannot pay the card from home. I have informed the coop bank about this over the phone, at some expense and difficulty, but was dismissed summarily by their call centre. All that happens is the bank send letters which I get months later threatening my mother with escalating forms of legal action. DO NOT BANK WITH THESE ELDER ABUSERS Reviewed on: 26th April 2023

Credit card online security

The credit card stopped being accepted for online purchases. The agent who dealt with the issue over the telephone was first rate and sorted everything out. The card now works perfectly. Reviewed on: 9th March 2023

Debit card saga continues

Debit card lost 17/1. Notified them within 20 minutes. Told card plus pin re-issued. Never arrived. Repeatedly told them. They said wait. 14 working days later I gave in to getting a card sent again. Arrive on 6th working day. Unable to pay bills all that time or buy food and fuel. Or pay my hotel. The latest debit card arrived but pin illegible. More phonecalls, more phone this number but told the got umpteenth time to phone credits..their secure messages take 5 days to read. You reply, wait another 5 days. No point of action by staff taking first phonecall. It's like pass the hot potato and a blame game. Why the first person can't take action when told there's a problem is bizarre. Latest debit card scenario. The police helped me get the Pin read. Then I discovered I couldnt pay bills on line with it. Back to Co Op. Phone this number. Told again no phone credits. No reaction to getting someone to phone me. Made the point again. Told to use the secure message again taking 5 days. Then got another message. Phone these numbers in week. Told again. I've got no phone credits so I've a half useful debit card but no means to pay car insurance, giffgaff, hotel bill, motorbike insurance, or buy online goods. On and on and on this saga goes. I've was forced to re route a payment to Nigeria to get money to my wife in Nairobi. Thanks to no debit card. These people have no concept of customer intervention by the shortest route. Green and earns money

I earn every time I use this card in the Co-op shop. Fair t+c. A green, non fossil-fuel investing bank. Reviewed on: 2nd February 2023

Awful

I have had recurrent issues with their visa card. Transactions get declined - even to the companied I have paid to before. I have had to call them a couple of times each month recently to get payments to go through, and even that can be no straight-forward task. Each time it has wasted over an hour of my time. Speaking to them is utterly frustrating. Don't waste your time with this hopeless back that has got worse and worse over time. I am closing my account with them. Reviewed on: 4th December 2022
