Straight forward ethical Co-op bank

They don't employ enough staff to serve the Customers!

I switched to the co-op when tesco switched to barclays, could not be doing with blood money. So the co-op is supposed to be more ethical and that is good. However, I have had the card now for 5 months and cannot use it because I have not set up the direct debit for repayments. It is IMPOSSIBLE to set this on online and the only option is to call them up. I have wasted hours upon hours waiting for someone to answer the call but they are ALWAYS "experiencing exceptionally high call volumes"! They are clearly not so ethical if they will not employ the staff to serve their Customer base! Reviewed on: 16th February 2025

Like banking in the dark ages

Like banking in the dark ages, nothing can be done online or on the app. Security is lax, they wanted me to tell the customer services person an entire password to create it when they also have all my details. Would not recommend Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Unusable members credit card that you have ring up each time to get permission

Once again couldn't do an online transaction for less than £100 ,phoned up and I was told they couldn't tell me the reason it was blocked ,but offered to unblock it for me ,stopped on the line whilst it was completed. Reviewed on: 22nd December 2023

Unreliable Credit Card

The bank has a systems problem and keep blocking on-line payments made by their Visa Credit Card for security reasons without justification…..can take up to an hour on the phone to get the block lifted! Reviewed on: 12th June 2023

Don't get this card, most abusive and unhelpful bank in the UK

My mother is in an end of life care bed. She cannot manage her own affairs- that task is left to me, her only living relative and next of kin, with power of attorney. Someone has spent some money on my mothers card, not a lot, but enough to cause problems because I, living in Australia cannot pay the card from home. I have informed the coop bank about this over the phone, at some expense and difficulty, but was dismissed summarily by their call centre. All that happens is the bank send letters which I get months later threatening my mother with escalating forms of legal action. DO NOT BANK WITH THESE ELDER ABUSERS Reviewed on: 26th April 2023

Credit card online security

The credit card stopped being accepted for online purchases. The agent who dealt with the issue over the telephone was first rate and sorted everything out. The card now works perfectly. Reviewed on: 9th March 2023
