Review of the HSBC, Student Bank Account:

Alright for students but not amazing

Had some issues with the app's responsiveness, and payments getting rejected even with an arranged overdraft which is odd. The student credit card is nice though it's difficult to stay under 50% of the credit limit, which they don't raise. Had difficulty getting my overdraft limit on the student account raised, even though they claim you can get up to 3000 quid in your 3rd year. It's not my favourite but it does a decent job. Best Card for Students

This is the best Student Card to have. It has the best incentives compared to other banks. Also the mobile app is very easy to use and it gives you a breakdown of how much you have and how much has been spent. This is very useful to visualise the monthly spendings as it can help with budgeting. I would recommended all students to get this card. Reviewed on: 1st June 2023

It was very easy to apply to and also has great benefits when opening an account. The mobile banking app is also very good as it sends notifications whenever someone sends you money or when you spend which some apps do not have. Reviewed on: 10th March 2023

Just AWFUL at absolutely everything

HSBC offer lucrative offers for students, which you will never receive, and pay for with years of the absolute worst service imaginable - which you could really do without when being a student with a million other things to worry about. I had to go into the branch multiple times because they continually failed to set up my bank account as it was ‘simply forgotten’ somewhere along the line of people involved in doing so. HSBC told me my student account was interest free then charged hundreds of pounds in interest

Horrific experience - I had a student account with HSBC throughout my degree which had an interest free overdraft as part of it. Once my degree finished, I called them to ask when the interest free overdraft would end and they said they'd give me a year post-grad to work my way out of overdraft. A couple of weeks after that phone call, they started charging me interest and as I was living abroad and not using my account much I didn't notice. They took hundreds of pounds in inter... Other student bank accounts offer better freebies!

No good incentives to open your student bank account here. Only incremental increase in overdraft that you have to keep applying for. Banking with them is easy though, and I've had no problems. Reviewed on: 27th April 2020

Rubbish

Absolutely rubbish. The online banking app won’t let me log in until they post me another validation code to my home address which by that time I will be away at university. They also haven’t sent me a PIN meaning I’m going to uni with no pin and no way to check my expenses or balance. I called and they said they could do nothing Reviewed on: 20th September 2019

Good overdraft, poor customer service

They gave me a significant overdraft, but were very poor at communicating any changes to my account. Additionally, I couldn’t contact an agent easily to discuss problems. Reviewed on: 3rd July 2019
