Rubbish

Absolutely rubbish. The online banking app won’t let me log in until they post me another validation code to my home address which by that time I will be away at university. They also haven’t sent me a PIN meaning I’m going to uni with no pin and no way to check my expenses or balance. I called and they said they could do nothing Reviewed on: 20th September 2019

Good overdraft, poor customer service

They gave me a significant overdraft, but were very poor at communicating any changes to my account. Additionally, I couldn’t contact an agent easily to discuss problems. Reviewed on: 3rd July 2019

Poor communication, slow to deal with but reasonably reliable

Poor communication, slow to deal with but they don't make too many mistakes. Mobile banking is poor, but is getting better slowly. Reviewed on: 8th February 2019

Convenient little overdraft

When I was a student in University I was able to apply to get a student account which allowed me to have an £1000 interest-free overdraft. This was very helpful as I was able to dip in and out of my overdraft for things like extra food, cheeky booze, partying and nights out, and trips back and forth home. I wouldn't have been able to do that otherwise, so thank you HSBC for allowing me to do that! Reviewed on: 8th January 2018

Good freebies

Could give or take HSBC

Good overdraft service

Online banking can be fiddly and the app is not compatible with my phone so can't use that, otherwise good fraud prevention service and overdraft amount for students Reviewed on: 6th November 2017

Fantastic deals

The student account is easy to set up and provides fantastic deals with interest and postgrad overdraft benefits. The additional bonus of being able to get a student credit card to start building a credit score is also very useful. Reviewed on: 5th September 2017
