Superb service in extraordinary circumstances

We were due to fly home from Thailand on 28th Feb 26 just as the Iran conflict started. Even though war is excluded HSBC Premier travel insurance provided by Aviva allowed our claim and paid in full for the costs we incurred as a result of having to stay an extra 7 nights This included accomodation, additional taxi journeys, visa extension and the difference between the flight refund we received and the extra cost of the alternative flight home. In addition we received £500 (£250 each) for the delay. So impressed and grateful - war is not covered by the policy so I was stunned to receive full payment. Emirates have us only £103 goodwill gesture so I was expecting no more than a small goodwill payment from Aviva. Claim handled online - fully informed re timescale and funds received into account the same day the email arrived saying payment was being made. Superb service Reviewed on: 14th May 2026

HSBC travel insurance exceeded my expectations!

HSBC travel insurance exceeded my expectations! During a family holiday over Easter my son suffered an ear infection and we incurred doctor's fees and pharmacy charges getting him well enough to fly home; I made a claim on my travel insurance 3 days after returning home, and less than a week since the costs were incurred, and the money was in my account the same day. Awful HSBC Premier Travel Insurance

There is no use of being a HSBC Premier customer. Don't waste time and spend money with them. They simply reject that not covered as per policy wording or you've not contacted them or doctor when you're in abroad. Worst experience in my life! Please don’t waste your money with them! I had to pay upfront due to my travel situation and now I’m claiming the expenses but they don’t want to cover it just because I didn’t speak with them or consult the doctor while I'm abroad. I've all proof that myself and my son sick during the day that we're travelling including medical bills and consult doctor on the day we returned. This is honestly rip-off for a genuine travel claim. Note: I've to give one star because there is no opportunity to give no stars. Reviewed on: 6th January 2025

Been with HSBC First Direct for travel insurance for...

Been with HSBC First Direct for travel insurance for years but never had to use it. Due to family illness we had to cancel a big holiday. Aviva who are the underwriters for the bank paid out with no quibble. Very impressed Reviewed on: 2nd December 2024

The Premier Worldwide Travel cover - beware

Couldnt reach anyone end of December before travel to extend the 31 day cover, which apparently you are able to extend for a payment, but you just get diverted to online forms which are not replied to swiftly or completely. Finally got through to someone that is connected to the team who look after this travel cover who couldnt find my record on their computer and so I had to go back to HSBC and ask them to contact the travel end and verify that I was indeed a Premier account customer - a call that was mind numbingly long and unsuccessful. The HSBC travel desk or colleagues connected to it who picked up the line continued to tell me they couldnt find me on their system but given I had contacted HSBC to send the message the system should right itself and I will be covered. I was finally emailed the policy document before I left the UK, but I was unable to extend the number of days cover. Tried to extend once abroad and got through to a human pretty quickly but as soon as the underwriter learned that I might make a claim (unforeseen dental emergency which I tried to defer to my return but the doctors said it was too serious) they refused to extend the cover. They offer this insurance "free" to Premier customers but you get what you pay for. I will never rely on this cover again. Beware! Reviewed on: 25th January 2023

Really good travel insurance

Travel over 31 days and 70 years

Usually send 2 months in OZ and have to pay extra but asked a return date would like this to be more flexible! 70 were i come but the insurance stops! Reviewed on: 9th February 2020

Competitive price but outstanding cover
