Review of the HSBC, Bank Account:

Awful

1
They've closed so many branches and their call centre is often busy. For some reason they've lately taken to suspending my debit card for suspicious activity every few weeks, even though my use of the card is no different from normal. I confirm mundane transactions I've made for small amounts and they lift the suspension again and can't provide me with an explanation of why the activity is deemed suspicious. They've done this twice while I've been in Norway, despite me notifying them in advance the exact days I would be there and using my debit card. I get about seven or eight pieces of junk post from them each month even though I've expressly requested they stop sending it. They've somehow "lost" two standing orders that I'd had running for ages and had set up myself online. They lied about a boost in the ISA savings rate in order to upsell me to a paid current account and admitted two months later I wasn't eligible for the higher interest rate for some nonsense loophole reason that isn't in the terms and it took me a fight to get the money back when I switched back to a free current account. They're just generally shocking really and that's before you factor in the ethical questions of some of their practices both in the UK and worldwide. Terrible, terrible bank. Its tough being a good bank - HSBC do it

best bank around. despite being an oldie, they still do the job! There is more to being a bank than the challengers think they can get away with. Reviewed on: 15th February 2024

They dont care.

1
Me and my partner had a joint account together for bills. They locked it out without notice and barred all payments. They asked very invasive questions about who else we banked with. (None of there business) before unlocking the account. Tired to ask why they asked these questions and they said it was for security but it was marketing questions which they would not know the answer to. Very unhappy customer. HSBC has been causing me major problems

1
This is the worst bank I've ever used in my entire life. Absolutely rubbish. They are unable to provide bank statements, which has been causing me major problems. It's absolutely ridiculous! I not only can't have an up to date bank statement on the app on real time but they also fail to produce the monthly bank statement and there are not enough branches. Their customer service is appalling and unreliable since they never seem to be able to sort out what they are asked. I really regret having my bank account with them. My advice is: never ever have your bank account with HSBC. Reviewed on: 7th February 2024

Don’t care about their customers

1
Huge craggy monolith with zero interest in normal customers. General disdain demonstrated over the years, but topped off with leaving me stranded 6000 miles from home with no access to cash after my wallet was stolen. (In a city with a massive HSBC presence!) customer “service” basically said tough luck. Reviewed on: 3rd February 2024

Appalling customer service.

1
Appalling customer service. I applied for an HSBC Advance current account on 30th October, HSBC acknowledged my application and confirmed that they would "need to do some important checks. This may take up to 10 days". I heard nothing so I raised a formal complaint which was acknowledged with a reference on 4th December. I've since continued to receive generic, seemingly automated e-mails telling me "We are taking your concerns seriously and again, I'm really sorry for the continued delay" though the reality is I don't believe they are taking my concerns seriously and I don't believe they're sorry. This is by far the worst customer service experience I've ever received from a bank or any financial institution. At time of writing in January 2024 its now been 73 days since I applied for this current account and 38 days since I raised a formal complaint and the account is still not open and the complaint has still not been appropriately responded to.
