I had a HSBC creditcard i paid off about 15/20 years ago, applied for a new one, completely wasted my time and didnt approve me, thats the thanks you get!. Leaving HSBC after more than 40 Years

I have had an account with HSBC since I was a teenager and for over 40 years but I am closing my current, savings and shares accounts (including those for HSBCA). I have nearly £2 million in assets and applied for a credit card with just a small £1200 limit for payment protection for a planned holiday but this was refused after a saga lasting over two weeks and much frustration. I am semi-retired and therefore work part time so my self assessment tax returns only show £12k to £16k per annum. I have never had any unathourised debts and I have always made payments to everyone on time. The only way to get in touch is by calling and dealing with eejits who can barely speak English. Time after time, they kept asking me for tax overviews when they meant the full submission/calculation. On three occasions, I clarified this only to have the word overview used again. This experience has now damaged my credit score. There are plenty of online banks out there that give a much better service and at cheaper rates e.g. transferring money to Spain (Wise) or buying shares (HL). HSBC are behind the times and customers are being impacted. Good riddance to them! Reviewed on: 30th July 2025

Totally, Seriously Unhelpful

I havevan elderly housebound disabled relative who banks with HSBC. He cannot use the phone to ring out, so asked me if I could ring his bank and get them to put a new cheque book in the post to him. I feel my money is secure with HSBC with the use of biometrics - I particularly like the new app that has just been released. The layout is improved as is the number of actions available such as applying for new products. Some of the savings accounts have decent interest rates such as Regular Saver and Online Bonus Saver and there is a large range of investments available. On top of all that, their credit cards have a good range of offers. I find the online chat useful and can normally resolve any queries I have. Reviewed on: 5th July 2025

I made an application to HSBC UK and they asked for 3 years of address history and then went back 9 years, found on old debt and reported to Cifas that I committed a crime by not providing every address ive ever lived at in ny life from birth. Their position is, if they ask for 3 years of address history and you provide 3 years of history but had a debt from 12 years ago, youve commited a crime and intended to commit fraud, because they went and looked back further than what they asked for. Then when an adjudicator from the onbudsman office explained that they didnt follow their own terms and conditins, they ignored him from march to june. Causing my life to be on hold and me to go without an account. They purposely delayed things as long as possible because their only goal was to try and destroy my life; and they tried very hard. I would urge anyone reading this not to trust HSBC UK. My ombudsman decision can be read on the financial onbudsman service website under past cases upheld for july 2025. Im Mr. W, who was accused of commiting a crime by HSBC Uk for having a debt in the past. The debt was also literally a vodafone bill that was unpaid.
