worst customer experience trying to open a bank account. I have crossed international borders with my temporary passport without any problems but HSBC for some reason won't accept it?! all government institutions, including the British government, have accepted my passport since it is a valid, government issued passport so HSBC had no valid reason deny me a bank account. When asked what the issue is, their employee said: the tenure of your passport. However, they accept non-temporary passports that expire at the same time as my temporary passport so that obviously doesn't constitute a valid reason.

Plus, after completing one of their online applications for a bank account, I waited for 3 weeks for a phone call to arrange a meeting but that never happened. then, i had to call myself and start completing the form via phone, AGAIN! so why do they even have the option of online applications if you never attend to your customers anyways?!

Conclusion: horribly bureaucratic without any solid reasoning behind it.

Overall, a pretty good bank to have an account with

Good options for interaction and communication but fewer and fewer branches as time progresses.

Whilst telephone and online services are convenient it can be challenging when you do need to speak to k wine as you often get passed around internally.

I received letter telling me my instant saver account had been made dormant with immediate effect as I had not used it for more than five years ( why did they not warn me before making it dormant heaven knows ? ). I went to my branch who said they could not do anything ?
I had to register for telephone banking there and then which I did
I went home to phone HSBC and rang the given telephone number and was informed I would have to wait 25 minutes for someone to answer waited 30 minutes and spoke to a lady and asked her to unlock my account and she told me to answer there security questions , I did , but she said she could not do this and I said I want to close this account she said she would send me a closure form by post, I then had to go back to the branch and show them my passport . Now they have said I will have to wait a couple of days for them to transfer the money from this Online Saver account to my current account.
Still waiting for my account to be unlocked but I am tempted to go to the Police and report HSBC for theft as they said in the warning letter that if I had not gone through all this crap the money would go to charity. Why they did not just transfer my money to my current account beggers belief
