Review of the HSBC, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Flexibility within the product/easy to use app

5
After seeking help from a professional HSBC came out the best for my circumstances in terms of a 5 yr fixed mortgage. I like the fact the paperwork that was sent through explained in detail and also a brief summary of what the terms of the mortgage were and how much I could overpay each year. The app is easy to use and it is useful to keep track of how the mortgage payments are impacting on the amount borrowed. Reviewed on: 20th March 2023

Best rate, Easy to renew

As a HSBC current account customer HSBC seemed like the logical choice for a mortgage. I was also surprised to find they had one of the lowest rates of the big banks and as I was already a customer I didn't have to pay a fee for having a 3 year fixed rate on my mortgage. They were so good i recently re-fixed with them! Reviewed on: 30th May 2017

Had a joint mortgage and two names on property deeds. HSBC always told me to confirm with other account holder when making changes. Now I find my ex wife was able to make any changes she wanted with my knowledge. Reviewed on: 12th February 2017

Poor Customer Service - Outrageous criteria

1
I went to an independent mortgage advisor as my fixed rate had expired with my current lender (not HSBC). HSBC were offering great rates and as what we thought were a reputable company we went with them. 3 months later after numerous calls from my mortgage advisor, HSBC were still no further down the line to offer us a mortgage. In this time we were paying £130pm extra on current mortgage! HSBC have no concept of customer service and their criteria for even a low mortgage value is ridiculous even when we could afford the payments twice over. In the end we pulled out of the application. We are just grateful we were dependent on the mortgage for the purchase of a house as we would have lost it due to their incompetencies. I do not recommend HSBC whatsoever! Awful

I have been a hsbc customer since 1996 and wanted to change the mortgage I had with them. They have ridiculously strict lending policies. We were told we would have to stay on the standard rate at the end of a fixed term deal as we didn't meet affordability criteria. This meant we were actually paying more each month. They offered no help to us whatsoever despite the fact we had never missed a payment. Needless to say we moved our mortgage to another bank and got a great deal. Reviewed on: 15th November 2016

Simple, Affordable & Friendly

Sends monthly statements through with balance left to pay off. Really easy to know where you stand! Looking to renew next year and HSBC will be the first place we look. Reviewed on: 15th November 2016

Great rates but farcical process

It took 4 months for our HSBC mortgage application to be approved, a good 2 months longer than it should have done.mwe were passed pillar to post so many times we seriously regretted picking HSBC over a comparable deal with a building society. Our application was even closed down by HSBC for no apparent reason with us only finding out (and getting it opened again) when we called for an update. When the application finally went through I put a formal complaint in and to give the complaints department their due credit they compensated us with an amount equivalent to what we had been paying in higher mortgage payments while the application was going through. The rate is very good and is saving us nearly £200 pcm but the process of securing it was seriously painful! Reviewed on: 14th November 2016

good rate for premer account holder

Very efficient when I called to discuss overpayments. The lady I spoke to was clear about the options and the outcomes, I felt they were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. First rate service! Reviewed on: 8th September 2016
