I had to put in an official complain to HSBC re their mortgage advisor who advised me to cancel a product less than 24 hours after I agreed to it as he said the rates were coming down, and then he conveniently forgot to call me and arrange for new paperwork to be done in order to get the new rate, by the time I asked them what was happening the rates had gone up nearly 2%. he claimed he had done nothing wrong, eventually I got them to agree the fixed rate that I had originally done a 2 hour zoom for. Excellent service & good rates

I am ever so grateful to HSBC appriving my first house mortgage & been lucky with good rates & still with the bank since 2006 in a better place now with less than 5 years left to be mortgage free by my 50th Birthday feels surreal. Bank has been supportive during difficult financial period & provided reasonable rates & kept in the loop of my product term ending or rates changing. I particularly love using the app keeps me updated as I travel for work not always have time seeing to letters. Moved digital which I prefer keeps me upto date. Reviewed on: 10th April 2024

From an IFA, avoid HSBC like the plague when mortgaging

They have been consistently terrible and I am adamant that they are somehow manipulating their reviews here as they should be 1*. Worst underwriting experience on the market and that is terrible when there are lenders like Barclays. Horrific communication, underwriters will wait for you to answer one query and then raise 5 more. Always leading to unnecessary delays for prospective mutual clients, how is this in line with consumer duty? Not surprised as they are a bank known for controversy in money laundering. An absolute waste of time!

I mean where do I even begin… Just to reiterate a previous review, if you want to lose all sanity and hope during a stressful time - i.e. buying a first time property - go for HSBC. They are absolutely useless and do everything in their power to make the application process as difficult as possible. After 5 weeks of endless back and forth paper work and explanation from our mortgage broker, we were informed that our application was rejected. What we’re having trouble understanding is why it’s taken you 5 weeks+ to come to this decision, and why until 2 days ago we were asked for more statements and paperwork. I genuinely think the underwriters have a serious problem. It’s not fair to make people wait for weeks and keep asking for statements and all sorts of explanation to then reject. A lot of my family members, including my partner, have business accounts with HSBC and I’m going to do everything in my power to make them switch to another bank. Useless! Making the purchase of my first home super easy

I chose HSBC as my mortgage lender as I am a long standing customer and they had very competitive interest rates. They worked quickly with my mortgage broker and solicitor which meant I moved into my house within 5 weeks of having my offer accepted. This made the whole process so easy. Many thanks! OK but disappointed with product choice and service

They did well to meet my tight deadline, but unimpressed with the initial setup of the mortgage. I applied online for a remortgage but was forced to use "advice" (that I didn't want) because I was staircasing (buying out 100% of shared ownership). This seems a bit ridiculous - as on completion it becomes a standard mortgage, but I jumped through the hoops to get the appointments etc. Only positive is that it seems to have gone into a faster underwriting queue by going direct vs. on the website, but still wasted a lot of my time. Most unimpressed about lack of 10 year product when I applied last year - I would've taken this at any reasonable rate, but there was none at all - only 2, 3 or 5. I have a 5 year product, but when this runs out I'll now have to pay significantly more (every man and his dog could see interest rates were at record lows early last year and only going one way). Funnily enough now returns are so much higher for them, 10 year products are available from them and FD, which leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Also not easy to see my indexed valuation, although you can calculate it (balance divided by estimated LTV) but have to start a new product transfer application to do that. Easy to deal with and great rates.

I recently remortgaged late last year and HSBC were still giving the best rate around. So easy to remortgage. Very happy. Reviewed on: 9th April 2023
