L&G are definitely not the caring organisation they hold themselves up to be. This organisation left me on verge of taking my own life. Was... L&G are definitely not the caring organisation they hold themselves up to be. This organisation left me on verge of taking my own life. Was receiving income protection payments, due to long-term serious health issues. A GP who I'd never even heard of, let alone spoken to, produced a totally unlawful report, sending it to L&G without my consent. This is a separate issue which I’m also having to deal with at a high level. It clearly opened an unexpected pathway for L&G to cut costs, and they duly obliged. Despite GP report being unlawful, sent without my consent, L&G chose a type of ‘plausible deniability' in terms of ‘turning a blind eye' to these facts. L&G then sent one of most deplorable, dreadful VCS ‘specialists' to complete most partisan assessment at my home. This ‘specialist’ produced most dishonest, contradictory, inconsistent report, therefore enabling L&G to end my much-needed payments, despite my own GP (who had ALWAYS produced requested reports for L&G over a 10-year period) being totally unaware that L&G had even requested a report. L&G had to later admit to two instances of dishonesty within VCS report, although there were numerous other examples which they didn’t admit to. L&G then, following my appeal (which included a large amount of medical evidence and an up-to-date report from my own GP, confirming my overwhelming unfitness to work), employed a third party (Symbios Health) to carry out an OH assessment. Without exaggeration, this OH assessment, completed by Dr Oli Cooper, was by far the worst, most traumatic, upsetting, inappropriate assessment of its kind that I’ve ever undergone and, given that my health issues have existed for almost 20 years, I’ve gone through dozens of them via various official organisations. Clear and obvious that L&G had utilised Dr Cooper and Symbios Health to ‘rubberstamp’ decision. I took note of everything which occurred during horrific assessment, even raising it with L&G prior to any final report being issued, therefore ensuring that L&G couldn’t allege that I was only doing so because of bitterness over any report. L&G couldn’t have cared less. To highlight L&G’s despicable conduct, they sent the OH report, which they undoubtedly knew that I totally disagreed with, to same GP Surgery where all of this began, without my consent. Under medical consent and reporting laws, this is strictly forbidden. They sent report blindly, without any covering letter, which is again not allowed. Only discovered that L&G had done this because had to submit a SAR request. This latest discovery has been condemned by Ombudsman in my favour. I’ve since moved GP Surgeries. L&G, unbelievably, tried to justify decision to send dreadful report, insisting (laughably) that they did so “for the benefit of my health", despite it being done without consent, and with inevitable enormous risk that it would end up in hands of GP who began my nightmare, as he’s a Practice Partner. There are so many other disgusting elements to my case, too many to discuss in this review. But, overall takeaway from this is that L&G are absolutely anything but a caring, decent organisation. L&G’s conduct and behaviour has been so callous, cruel, and underhand, it beggars belief. The ignorance and arrogance L&G have displayed is staggering. Don’t be fooled by the name and history. L&G are one of the worst organisations to be dealing with patients, or people with health issues related to employment. I would urge everyone whom has no alternative but to be associated with L&G through their employer to be fully on guard, do your research, make sure that you know your rights for any worst case scenario, have a healthy distrust of the organisation, and always ensure that your own GP produces any requested reports L&G ask for, even if that means contacting your GP Surgery every single day. Do not put your trust in them

Do not be lured by the glossy brochures and comfort inducing advertising, Legal and General do not want to help you or your family when your life is turned upside down by a critical illness, engineerd to minimum industry guidance allows them to abandon you after decades of paying your premiums in your time of utmost need, walk away from you. Claims handlers, trained to operate with narrow minds to disassemble your criticall illness. I had an emergency admission to A+E, full Re-sus, a severe lung heamorrage, huge blood loss, multiple organ failure, my heart failed, kidneys and liver failed, I was kept alive by ITU. Lungs bleeding requiring many blood transfusions, I was on highest level life support, and transfered to specialist unit, ia coma for weeks I was not expected to survive and they where not sure if I would be the same if I did wake up. I did survive, thanks to our NHS and the love for my familiy. Legal and General dont believe this meets there policy for critical illness!? I required months of chemotherapy and treatments, months off work, many years of treatments to come. I could not walk for months, I sufferd daily to this day, permanent disabilty, caused by an autoimmune disease, my consultants affirm A-Typical ANCA Negative Vasculitis, a very rare autoimmune disease, the cause of which is understood to be SLE, (Lupus), an insured critera, but Legal and General refuse to accept the wording, or the science, will not accept medical papers, rheumatologist written statement, Renal consultant diagnosis, because they have to have it so specificlly written in words as they lack suitably qualified staff and CMOs, they are not competent. I sufferd permanent kidney damage, Legal and General argue on words, new medical tests are ignored when inconvenient to there repuduation narrative. There is no integrity, they operate with the devil in the detail and are not critical thinkers. Legal and General will sell you a policy for peace of mind, it really is not at all, in my experience they will do everything at there disposal to reject your claim. Be wary when a concerned claims handler calls you out of the blue to discuss your claim, they are decietfully recording your phone call without your prior consent or permission, speaks volumes on how they operate. Legal and General argue against your medical consultants, albeit incorrectly, with highly dubious medical opinions that are out of date, and refutable, however there CMO's opinions are treated as the final word by claims handlers, they answer to absolutley no-one when challenged or queried on the science, completely untouchable unless you have the resources of your own solicitor, the CMO at Legal and General is GP, hardly comparable to current practising specialist medical consultant, yet Legal and General can make innacurate arguments against you and your healthcare professionals and consultants, with no recourse, a policy holder cannot respond, because they refuse to answer your lettters or engage in dialogue, they operate with impunity at this level. Dont rely on the in house complaints pricess, or Ombudsman, they have no medical knowledge, they are unable to challenge Legal and General in this regard, dont want to be seen as argumentative in areas they have no knowledge, defaulting to accepting Legal and General CMO, even when wrong or challenged. If had not survived, which there was a very real chance I was not going to, I have no confidence whatsoever that Legal and General would honour my life insurance policy to my family. Legal and General have failed me after a serious near death criticall ilness. life time disability and injuries, all of which I am insured. Integirty,morals,ethics,values do not appear in there ethos or culture in my experience. since 1836, making billions for the shareholders, by failing there duty to policyholders, a muti billion organisation making its money dishonestly Shame on you Legal and General.     Completely incompetent at every level

    I just needed to change my Direct Debit details. L&G makes tens of millions in profit every year to spend on training their customer service... I just needed to change my Direct Debit details. L&G makes tens of millions in profit every year to spend on training their customer service representative and "My Account" login areas yet this is how painful they make the most simple task. (that every other company seems to have managed quite simply). 1. Go online to change details - Their login areas is down. 2. Try again. Log in and see a message saying "Just fetching your data, we won't be long". It does this for over an hour!! I give up... 3. Look for the phone number on the website. Nothing!! 4. I then email Customer Support with all of my account details, instructions on what I need to do and new bank details. Receive auto-reply saying confirming receipt and saying they will respond within 48hs. After TWO weeks, no reply!! 5. Re-send the email again, same auto-reply. Never received a reply. 6. Start getting auto-generated emails telling me my DD didn't go through and that I need to take action. Grrrr!! 7. Go back to the website to look for a phone number again. After 20 minutes I give in to the continuous web loop telling me I have to start a BotChat to contact customer services. 8. Start BotChat that does not understand the question "I need to change my Direct Debit details" 9. Another 20 minutes wasted trying to get the bot to connect to a human. Eventually, it tells me I have to call. Wow!! 10. I call, after 40 minutes on hold the first person tells me they can't do that and puts me on hold for a further 25 minutes. 11. Eventually speak to a human who assures me she will do everything I need. 20 minutes going through every detail of my policy just to change my account number and sort code. 12. While on the phone I ask why I can't login into 'My Account' areas. She says they have fixed it and I can now. 13. I log in and the 'My Account' platform is a complete waste of time. My product does not appear because it was started before 2022 and all I can change is my password and marketing preferences. That's it!!! It does nothing else. 14. Sit back, frustrated, shocked but slightly relieved it is over and think Wow!! That was horrendous, how does a company the size of L&G get it so wrong at every step. 15. 1 week later I get a call from my IFA saying she has had an email from L&G saying that my DD has failed and I need to contact them to pay and change my DD details. (I explain all of the above). 16. She tells me multiple stories of how terrible L&G are and that she will call them. 17. She comes back saying that she is sending me a DD form that I will have to manually fill in, scan and send back to her. She will then send it to L&G. 18. Fingers crossed that will work. Potential customers thinking of choosing L&G, OMG go somewhere else. I'd hate to think how they handle a claim if this is what's involved in changing some simple account details. L&G you should be ashamed and the people in charge of your Customer Service and online UX don't deserve whatever huge salary they are on. Read more Read less

    Terrible and Misleading

    This company was delaying me and finally after submitting a physical with labs when they promote no exam is a lie. Don't waste your time... They never have anyone helping over the phone and never send back responses. I was told a no exam to needing a physical to finally say that a mammogram and PAP smear was needed.     Brilliant experience.

    I have never had any problems with contacting Legal and General, they manage my life insurance very well. I truly can't find a single thing to complain about.
