Farce

We were drawn to the account by the generous switching bonus so moved our joint account, but had we known how hard we'd have to work to get it we'd have thought twice. Pretty much everything that could go wrong did: they couldn't find me through credit search (other banks have with no probs) so we had to make a 50 mile round trip to the nearest branch to prove my identity...where they kept us waiting over an hour, because the address was slightly different on my two identifying letters...not different relevant details mind you, just one said 'Durham' and one said 'Durham, County Durham'. When I tried to explain that given the house number and postcode were the same the rest was irrelevant they talked over me, patronised me then left me unattended for ages while they went to phone someone about it..meanwhile due to the partitioned cubicle set up I could hear them greeting other customers (no privacy!) and offering them hot drinks - I wasn't offered so much as a cup of water despite being kept there much longer, which hardly seemed fair. Eventually everything was sorted and we went home, thinking our troubles were over. If only! The joining incentive wasn't paid correctly so I had to chase it up (took several phonecalls), my husband's bank card didn't work, the M&S reward scheme points didn't track properly on at least two occasions, the online banking page was often out of action...had high hopes for this account, but sadly not impressed and will be switching again soon. I switched to M&S bank on a recommendation from moneysavirngexpert.com. I was drawn in by the £125 gift card and the 5% monthly saver. However, here is where the good points end. The online banking is some of the most basic I have seen and not very user friendly. The same goes for the app - the only function it serves is to view your balance. The real final straw is the fact that you can only withdraw cash from M&S or HSBC ATMS. This is simply ridiculous, especially since there is one M&S ATM where I live, which is within the store and closes at 6pm, and one HSBC in the City Centre. If you are out and about without cash, then it is tough luck. Reviewed on: 8th December 2017

Excelled customer focussed

Cannot fault m and s bank. Always able to deal with friendly and helpful staff. I realise they are connected to hsbc but they offer so much more of a 'local experience than hsbc. Reviewed on: 18th November 2017

Great service and value

I sometimes lose track of my balance and so it's great that M&S send me a text to warn me and give me until nearly midnight to correct the deficit. At last, a bank that Wants to save e money! Reviewed on: 8th November 2017

Could do with more branches

i really like my bank account. i feel like it is very transparent with any charges and extremely fair - i have found some other banks can be all about recouping money. my only 2 gripes with the bank as a whole is there are only 2 branches within a 30 mile radius from me and the app does not let you do as much as other banking apps let you.
