Crooked as a nine bob note

So, knowing what a minefield camper van insurance is I called Staveley Head after I got my Asda comparison quote. They confirmed, in the six minute call, that they would insure my camper van conversion. A month later I received a message warning me that if I didn't provide a pile of additional info within FIVE hours they'd cancel my insurance. I provided dozens of pics, forms and print outs, they even wanted a full DVLA licence print and a copy of every page of my V5! So I complied. Then they say they will have to charge me £134 to delete the tracker I listed because it's a Halfords one! Then they say the cooker and table have to be fixed and not removable, this was THE WHOLE POINT OF MY CALL BEFORE I INSURED! In the end I relented and cancelled, here's their made up fee's and as far as I'm concerned some are duplicated........£20 admin.....£85 cancellation......£5 refund.....£79 insurance used. With a fixed bed, solar system, TV, roof vent and fan and swivel seats it's hardly a commercial van is it! Ombudsman next! Reviewed on: 17th January 2024

Poor service unbelievable cancellation policies

1
I have had motor insurance for over 30 years and I have to say this company is the worse insurance company broker I have ever used. £256 annual premium had to cancel after two months , £29 refund/ credit which they even charge £5 for a Bacs transfer which will take them up to 6 weeks to pay back, laughable. The service on the phone waiting time is shocking their manners and attitudes/ email replies are shocking with around 5days response to reply. Terrible company and service. The cancellation policies should be illegal!! Day light robbery. Reviewed on: 2nd November 2023

Avoid

Just a quick warning to those looking at insuring their vans with Staveley Head . I have found them to be unbelievably keen on paperwork so cancelled and was charged £280 for a fortnights insurance. Avoid at all costs if I were you. Reviewed on: 19th May 2023

Excessive and unfair charges

At renewal, Staveley head asked for a copy of MOT certificate after the 14 days cooling off period (they waited exactly 28 days) and gave me less than 6 hours to send it over before cancelling my policy at 3pm that day. My policy was for £188 and total cancellation fees amount to £173.25 and won’t review. What a way to treat a renewing customer. I have 4 other policies with Chris Knott Insurance and 100% recommend them. Avoid these scamming cowboys. Reviewed on: 28th March 2023

scam of a company

1
absolute disgrace of a company , £85 cancellation fee so be careful, they charged me £62 for 10 days insurance and owed me money but because it was under £15 they dont refund so technically stealing your money which is theft, there was no mention of the crap they ask for when taking the insurance out through comparison sites or i would never of took it out, be careful they want engineer reports , photos, licence, v5, photo id, utilty bills, photos of under the vehicle, milage declaration, no claims ,i can accept some but never known the likes of it, im currently filling in a small claims form and will update on the outcome , avoid this company or check first Reviewed on: 17th October 2022

Scamsters!

1
This company get you to sign up and then request information eg certificates, inspections, you name it in the hope you won't be able to produce them, then you have no option but to cancel and they refund about half of your premium. They tried to charge me £155 for 3 days insurance, still struggling to get my money back, they say the refund could take 6 months to be refunded WTF AVOID! You've been warned! Avoid at all costs, this company is full of hidden fees cleverly written into the terms and conditions, save yourself money and go with a reputable company, these are just cowboys!! Reviewed on: 12th April 2022

Avoid this Company they will cost your a lot more money in the long run, they will do anything to get you to cancel whereby they make more money. Reviewed on: 2nd March 2022

Don't use.

1
Absolutely wasted my time. This company is useless and not worth wasting your time with. I stated my no claims bonus when getting the insurance and shower proof but they weren't happy that it wasn't specifically camper van insurance. The no claims was on a ford transit which was a camper. Waste of time, effort and money. Use a different company. Reviewed on: 25th March 2019
