Review of the Yorkshire Building Society, Cash ISA:

This pathetic organisation is either xenophobic or racist

This pathetic organisation is either xenophobic or racist. My wife decided to open a cash ISA and to transfer part of her existing cash ISA balance as the interest rates were higher than her current ISA. Submitted her application and went through the ID checks conducted by external company. Was then contacted by their HQ asking lots of questions about her background, some of which were very strange but they advised this was part of their standard checks. She asked if there were any problems and was advised there wasn't but they would contact her if they had any further questions. When she hadn't heard from them but the account still hadn't been activated by them she recontacted and they informed her they were still awaiting the ID check, which was rubbish of course as this had already been completed and confirmed. She asked to speak to someone else and was then kept waiting for a few minutes before being cut off. I can't image that a so-called 'professional' organisation could be so incompetent and I'm sure their action is due to the fact that she was not born in the UK, although she has been a British citizen for many years. She's now opened an ISA elsewhere who welcome non-British born customers. Reviewed on: 21st April 2023

I originally had my savings with N&P who were taken over by Yorkshire BS. Since then i have been amazed by their saving products, rates and service. They offer a wide range of saving products with good interest rates. Their is easy to use and apply for products. Excellent service. Reviewed on: 6th November 2019

Found it easy to take this out online. Interest rate was good and it was a quick and easy process. All documents received from them quickly. No branch near me but I dont expect to have to visit them as all contact will be online Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

Great interest while it lasts!

Saving interest rates are poor these days, and when my ISA matured, after checking comparison sites found that Yorkshire Building Society were offering the best interest rate at that time - a market leading 2% per annum! I made an appointment at the branch office and the adviser couldn't have been more helpful. She arranged the transfer from my old ISA account, all the paperwork went through satisfactorily and the documents arrived in good time. The ISA fixed-rate bond matured at 18 months, but I was extremely disappointed to see that the YBS were only prepared to offer derisory interest rates of 1.2% for a new 1-year bond, or 1.3% for 2 years. The Bank of England rate hasn't changed within the time that I have held this account, and I couldn't understand why the building society were offering such poor rates on maturity of bonds. Were they hoping that customers would accept their poor offer and lose out on a better rate? It seemed mean to me! I have (again) checked comparison rates, and am in the process of transferring the ISA account to a financial institution which values their customers. My husband will also do the same when his YBS ISA matures shortly. Because of Yorkshire Building Society's lack of loyalty to customers, they are going to lose out on a considerably amount of money! I advise customers to vote with their feet! Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

Useful product, ok overall

I have an instant access ISA. It's useful to have it, and it works well for me, but as mentioned by a few other reviews on here, the interest rate could be better Reviewed on: 14th October 2014
