Review of the AA, Breakdown Cover:

Be Careful with AA terms and conditions!

1
Be Careful with AA terms and conditions! Last week I realised my mot had expired by a week, I booked the mot and arranged for my car to be collected on trade plates by the garage, I went to start the car on my driveway and it was just clicking so I phoned the AA to explain but even though the car was on my drive and I have home start they refused to help! I explained I’m disabled and a blue badge holder and I’m unable to fix myself if it is just the battery. I have been with the AA for over 30 years on and off and have only used them twice and that was over 10 years ago. I have now cancelled my membership and will use the RAC as I could have broken down any where and as I can’t walk properly due to my disability i can’t take the risk with the attitude of the AA after my phone call with them. This company stole £342 from my business account without authorisation.

1
This company stole £342 from my business account without authorisation. I signed up to the AA breakdown in Jan 2022 for £120. On the 2nd of Jan 2023 I received an email stating that my policy would be auto-renewed at a cost of £342! that day. This was not something I had authorised. I checked that the payment had not gone out and stopped my card, I also checked that no standing order or direct debit was in place. I sent an email to the AA and told them that I did not want to auto renew and they emailed back and said that I have agreed to it by accepting the T&Cs. (I never accept auto renewals and had I been aware of this I would not have accepted it). I then received a second email with an offer to renew at £120, I refused on principle. I considered the matter delt with but on the 1st Feb £342 was taken from my account. I am still unsure about how this was taken as my card details had changed! I informed my banks fraud team and the amount was refunded, I am very concerned that this company is able to take money without current card details! Unauthorised direct debit?? I have no idea how it was done but if I were to take £342 I would be arrested, one rule for the big fish and another for the small fry! Reviewed on: 3rd February 2023

It Is bad If you break down, no one to come and pick you up. So It's Good to have cover. Reviewed on: 1st February 2023

poor customer service

1
Very poor customer service. Clearly the AA has no respect for loyal customers and a complete insult to our intelligence. As a regular customer i am charged £25 per month (with no breakdown claims) and a new customer pays £8 for the same cover. Not any more... Reviewed on: 20th January 2023

Useless with no customer care

1
Turbo pipe blew on my van giving it a maximum speed of 20mph and struggled to get up hills. AA left me in a dangerous location for 9 hours, promising they'd attend but didn't. Eventually I had to risk my life, driving onto a motorway and up the hardshoulder all the way home, as they failed to get a single vehicle to attend. They promised to come to my home to relay the vehicle to a garage, and didn't turn up either. They offered compensation, but after numerous promises, nothing has arrived after 6 months of chasing. There is zero customer service. If you call - they just tell you they've sent an email on your behalf and someone will get in touch within 72 hours - but they don't. No empathy, no concern, no customer care at all. Put the money in a savings account every year instead and use it if you break down then. Save yourself the pain of dealing with a company that simply don't care Reviewed on: 12th January 2023

All about the money. No care

1
My daughter had a blowout, we have fleet insurance for 6 cars, was told cover ran out in 2021, checked card in car and it says 2022. We thought we had renewed for this year. Will be checking bank in the morning, however, apparently the car in question doesn't exist on DVLA database, she can't even renew cover at side of road and they refuse to come out, she's on a long unlit road by herself. Thank goodness link tyre sales have more sense. The car in question was found immediately on the DVLA database and they are in their way to get her sorted without even asking for money upfront!!! AA service

Wife flat tyre on A303 Right now. We are Gold members and have been for years. She’s been told 1-6 hours to wait. I called National Tyres and a guy called Ryan is coming in 1 hour with tyre to fix problem. Of course I will be paying him and it’s out of hours but I don’t care. My wife has been treated appallingly by a woman at the AA who couldn’t have cared less. In future I suggest we all save our insurance premium and if you get a breakdown (which is rare these days) just pay for the local tyre/tow etc service. You’ll probably save a lot more than you spend over the years. I have 4 cars insured with the AA and it costs about £250 a year. In future my own money will insure me! No common sense longest wait times in the freezing weather

1
Broke down on the A2 last night at 4:40pm waited almost an hour to be towed twice as far away from home to a ''safe space'' which was a mc Donald's and a subway at the Dartford Services. The AA then needed to send someone out to check the problem (2 hours later), also on a flatbed truck that could have taken me home, I was then dumped there until 12:50am. I have woken up with a cough and cold as there was no where to sit in the warm for 8+ hours. Utterly disgusted is an understatement. A complete lack of care and common sense shown. When you are closer to home than the services, surely you should just be taken home and ease the stress on the company. It took 3 people to do the job of one person with an ounce of common sense. Disgusted with this company

1
Absolutely disgusted with the AA called them this morning at 8:30 for a break down with me and my child in the van, had a patrol car come out 2 hours delayed. Told the engineer car isn’t leaking so don’t put anymore water into the reservoir I just need a tow to the garage to which he then poured water into the reservoir thinking he can find a fault to water all 6 litres he poured into the van went straight into the oil sump. He then told me he could tow the van as it’s too big to which he ‘booked’ a recovery truck to come pick my van up and drop it to the garage for 1 o’clock which I thought brilliant thank you. Then 10 hours later my van is still on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck…..luckily I had a relative pick up my child as he would have probably got hypothermia. I spoke to aa customer service on the phone the simply said sorry and told me they’ve spend 23 minutes on the phone and other customers waiting I’ve had to call the tow truck company and leave my key in a safe location as I can’t spend anymore time 13 hours is ridiculous. Hopefully my van gets to the garage I simply won’t know until tomorrow morning Reviewed on: 12th December 2022
