remote mortgage for simple administration

The wrapping-up process in completing a mortgage with first direct was made super simple as they took me step by step through my responsibilities with instruction on when to engage a solicitor and what to expect from the solicitor. They regularly contacted me via phone to ensure all was well. With full access to accounts online, this is a simple way to do banking with a very efficient banker. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Top bank

First direct came up the best deal on comparison site. I already have a current account with First Direct and have never had any problems, always able to get in touch when required and quickly. This was the first time i have taken on a remortgage myself as i have always went through a broker. It was really simple, i got my AIP, i then had a call with my mortgage advisor and we went through what i was looking for and what suited me best. Advisor was friendly and happy to go into any in further detail that i may not have grasped initially. The remortgage went very smooth, i cant believe how quick it all was and the best thing again is being able to speak to someone within a matter of minutes, whereas my last provider had just changed and trying to get through to them took 1hr 34 mins. Easy to setup with real people who pick up fast. very competitive rates for good LTV and no overpayment charges if you want to massively overpay. Reviewed on: 31st May 2023

Worst experience getting a mortgage

Took months and months to sort out mortgage as none of the advisors seemed to be consistent. Called up to see if they were waiting for any info from us, told no. Then mortgage delayed because they hadn't sent us the correct forms to complete and send back. My advice would be go to a high street lender when you get advisors who know what is going on and are keeping on top of proceedings. Reviewed on: 11th April 2023

First class service

I have been a mortgage customer of first direct for the past 8 years. And have moved house and remortgaged a number of times with them. They offer market leading rates backed up by first class customer service. They also allow unlimited overpayments at any time on their fixed rate mortgages without any penalty or caps which is a rarity. They don’t deal with brokers so you can only get access to their deals by dealing with them directly yourself. Reviewed on: 17th January 2023

Mortgage and home improvements

Both remortgaging and borrowing for home improvements, I found First Direct had the best deals, they were so easy, professional, helpful and friendly to deal with. It was like talking to a friend who anted to do right by you, yet at the same time not pushy at all ( which I hate with a passion).
