This mortgage allowed our student daughter to purchase a flat in her own right with us acting as guarantors. The process was straighforward and once everything was agreed and she had found her dream flat – she made an offer and moved in. She has a lodger to help with the payments, and she is secure for the rest of her university course, and beyond!

Just totally different, and understand the value of Customer Service

I have my mortgage with Bath Building Society, and the difference in dealing with my large high street bank and them is just miles apart. What a pleasure to receive old fashion amazing service, and actually speak to a real person who genuinely cares. The experience of dealing with the team is fabulous, I am just totally surprised every time I speak with a member of the Team, the level of professionalism is awesome, can't say how much other financial institutions could learn from this Building Society. I'm not easily impressed, but the icing on the cake was when I received a 'Welcome to your new home' hamper full of delights from Bath, just brilliant. The people who are responsible for creating this kind of magic in this day an age need to be congratulated for going above and beyond!

Our whole experience has been positive from start to finish. We understood clearly at every stage the various options available to us. We were kept fully in the picture throughout the process and despite the disruption of the covid 19 pandemic we were able to complete according to plan. Our principle contacts at BIBS, Kim Carter and Ian Birch, were friendly and helpful and all our queries were answered promptly and efficiently.

Our experience was seamless from start to finish. I contacted the Society and was pleasantly surprised to be out straight through to Tim Randall who showed immediately how different the experience was going to be compared to call centres etc. Let me be very clear, in a digital age Tim’s hands on approach made the difference, his communication was quick and he understood us really well, you don’t get that from some of the bigger societies or banks, let’s face it you are just a number with them; but certainly not with Tim and his Team at Bath BS.
I cannot recommend Tim and the society more, in fact I already have.
Personal, Professional and Pro-Active.

With our interest only mortgage due to end on 28th of February 2021, we wrote to the Bath Building Society in December 2020 enquiring about a Retirement, Interest Only mortgage (RIO). We received excellent help and advice from Tim Randall. He recommended we contact our current lender to request an extension as the Covid 19 pandemic was causing lengthy delays due to the majority of office based staff working from home. This we did, then with Tim's help and guidance we applied for the mortgage. The paperwork was received by the Bath on 5th January and we completed on 25th February. Tim was always available by email and occasionally by phone. His response was often by return and never more that 24 hours. In the past 50 years we have had a number of mortgages/remortgages but have never received such excellent service, under the most difficult of circumstances. We cannot praise the Bath Building Society highly enough and single out Tim Randall who went above and beyond for special mention.

In costs that we have wasted- we are so frustrated at the society...

Everything went smoothly, had a little hiccup with the direct debit of the mortgage but we rang up and they sorted it straight away and were super helpful

Having our mortgage with BBS was a pleasant experience (we have had other companies previously). Everything was clear and straightforward - and when we were able to increase our payments to clear the mortgage that was very straightforward. We have savings still with BBS and now live far away but the folk on the phone are so helpful and real. The only thing we'd like to change is having a branch in Cornwall!

Having banked with BBS for over 20 years (myself, my wife & all 3 children) my wife & I applied for a mortgage. Because i am a serving Army Officer who has served outside the country in the last 3 years (full UK taxpayers), i was told i would not be considered at all. I didn't even have the chance to submit any paperwork - it was an absolute NO from the outset. Shame on you! I would expect far better from a trusted local Building Society. I now have an excellent mortgage with the Coventry Building Society - who we have not banked with before. That must be wrong. Your staff in the Bath branch are superb - but your mortgage policy is outrageous and deeply unpatriotic. We were, and remain, deeply disappointed with the BBS.

Thank you for your feedback and loyalty to the Society over 20 years. I am sorry that we were unable to help you on this occasion. We regularly review our lending policy as well as our agreement with our credit reference agency, and whilst we don’t currently have the capability to check BFPO addresses to obtain the three year credit history which is part of our lending criteria, it is something that is under consideration. But this in isolation should not get in the way of us providing a personalised service, looking at and fully considering individual circumstances. We will also undertake some additional training with our sales teams, using your case as an example, and I will be stressing the importance of identifying exceptional circumstances when reviewing all applications. Understanding, empathetic, subtle, clear and professional

over the years all of the team have been swift, sufficient, personable and professional. Always very quick to respond and genuinely listen and resolve issues quickly. wouldn't change anything from my experience, special thanks to Fran.
