I applied for a mortgage from Barclays as a first time buyer. The experience has been horrendous and thanks to its very incompetent mortgage team I'm going to lose the property. The seller is fed up with the length of time this is taking when my solicitor sent all the paperwork related to the survey of the house around the 15th of Feb. Two months down the line this hasn't been sectioned. A complaint has been put through and even the complaint department didn't botherered to give me a ring when it was agreed through a text message. The stress and upset this is causing me is beyond belief. An absolute lack of respect to a customer. Never use Barclays as your lender

Appalling customer service from Barclays Bank. As a current customer I was told I could port my mortgage at my current rate, and refund my earlier payment fee of nearly £8000, following the sale of my previous home. Due to their horrendous customer service the 90 day period elapsed and have now had to remortgage costing me an extra £200 a month and losing over £8000. I am now 8 weeks down the line applying for a new mortgage and still no final offer, no feedback and when I managed to speak to them, my case has been passed around to 4 different advisors and a manager. The most recent excuse was they had lost the valuation, then when they managed to find it, there were IT issues attaching this to my case, with another further 3 weeks delay. I am now facing losing my property as the sellers are sick of hearing the different excuses and in such a competitive markets, this will probably cost me more money to find a new one.. The stress and upset is beyond belief. Can I suggest no one uses Barclay bank, as I now have no where to live due to short term rental running out and if this doesn’t complete, it will have cost me thousands!! If anyone from Barclays Senior leadership teams see’s this comment please help me!!!! If I lose my property the next steps are to seek legal advice and seek compensation. Barclays Mortgages seem to attract either 5* or 1* reviews; it’s down to luck as to whether your mortgage application goes through a competent or incompetent mortgage team. My application for a 18% LTV fixed rate mortgage should have taken just 5 days on a fast track route; 7 weeks later it is still sitting with the underwriter. Try as he might, my broker cannot get a coherent answer from Barclays as to the cause of the delay. One day he’ll be told it’s a technical issue, but the next person he deals with says it is not. My seller is so fed up with the lack of progress that he is threatening to remarket the property to someone who can proceed immediately
Of note, Barclays is the only mainstream lender not to have a phone line to a responsible individual; all communication is by email or web chat, with the respondents being based in India. My experience so far, is of a lender with an incompetent team who simply don’t care.
This is the second time in 6 years that I have attempted to get a Barclays mortgage, but the last time I will be let down in this way. I fully expect to lose the property we have been waiting 9 months to buy, solely due to Barclays’ incompetence and disinterest.

Every single step of my mortgage review was as painful as they could possibly make it. It has been over 14 weeks since I started my application and process and I am still waiting on completion. Customer service provide no use only being able to read an old dated comment From my application that’s very brief Rather than an actual update and that’s after holding on their phone lines for over an. Hour and half. The whole structure of the department is baffling. I think over 20 different people must have worked on the application given the amount of times Iv been told it had to be sent to another department for review, every small step of the way I have to wait 5 working days for anything to be done, that includes for someone to read and pass it onto someone else! Overall it is just truly shocking and I won’t ever look to remortgage with them.

As a first time buyer it should be a pretty straight forward process for me, but it wasn’t, the people Barclays hire are completely incompetent at their jobs, we were consistently lied to for 3 months over a document that wasn’t sent out (they told us repeatedly they had) on top of all this, they decided to audit the mortgage application after they were delaying us constantly for around 4 months, this adding another couple of weeks on the the completion date. Please use another company other than Barclays, as soon as I can I will be cutting ties with this company and looking elsewhere. Seems they hire anyone and everyone who really shouldn’t be employed in any capacity.

It took over 6 months for the mortgage team to sort out the account, even though the bereavement team has passed on all of the information required, twice.
There was a series lack of communication and so much red tape. I was passed from department to department and no one could help. In what was a very distressing time anyway, having to deal with this for 6 months (whilst still getting letters addressed to the deceased) was overwhelming.

Went through the usual mortgage info gathering routine gave over all they needed......and more... complied with all requests..i honestly feel they know more about me now than i do or gchq and mi5/6....i have an a1 credit rating little debt ..even 2 properties with 50% ltv on each ....all good they said....Then as always they decided to move the goal posts and say no after saying yes its in the bag 100% i have had my time completly waisted for the own selfish internal needs .....i feel exhausted and used by barclays mortgage dept ....

I have a BTL mortgage and wanted to repay some of the loan value and reduce the repayment term. Barclays suggested paying down the maximum without incurring any penalties. Great I thought, until they conveniently forgot to mention to me that if you pay more than 3 months worth of your usual monthly mortgage payment, they reduce your new monthly amount, BUT the term of the mortgage remains the same. I feel like Barclays were not transparent or clear enough at the time when I made my enquiries and should have been more honest. I wouldn't have even thought to ask them whether they had some sort of '3 month rule'. Lesson learnt! I will be moving to another lender now, once my term with Barclays is up in a few months time and will have cleared a big chunk of my mortgage. I wouldn't recommend Barclays. They are sneakyand dishonest.

I hav gave no stars because - having banked with Barclays for 30 years, borrowed & repaid them thousands of pounds without 1 late payment, my experience of the mortgage application made me feel physically sick. They had me on the phone for nearly 2 hours - I was only looking for a small mortgage- despite them having good mortgage deals on the net they eventually offered me a rate a quarter more than them rates & after asking me what my budget was they made sure eventually that they took me right up to the top of my budget. They are sneaky snakes & I would advise avoiding them where mortgages are concerned.
