Bank not transparent with their lending criteria

The bank did not disclose at the outset what type of property they would not lend on. Basically if their surveyor did not like the decor then he would give a bad report and the bank would not lend. All this and 4 months of them faffing about with the application and having told us its 99% certain that they would lend us the finance, and we had spent money on legal fees, private surveys etc based on their assurances. Very very unfair.

As a first time buyer, I felt completely in the dark when it came to applying for a mortgage. Add in help to buy, a new build, and buying off plan and the situation was overwhelmingly. A gentleman called Thomas from Barclays did my first affordability checks over the phone and later on my mortgage application. Thomas was a saint dealing with my million questions, his patience was unending. He was completely knowledgeable, and hand held me through the process, he was positive throughout the process, always reassuring when I was worrying about everything. I can’t say enough good things about Thomas and Barclays and the service I received. Thomas was the friendliest person I’ve come across in terms of banks and customer service and I will be going back to Barclays in the coming year when I look to move to a bigger property. A really good experience made easy by Barclays staff.

Great rates and rewards

I'm on an excellent fixed rate. Get a monthly cash reward for banking, insuring and using a mortgage from barclays. Great customer service the few times I've needed it too. Oh and their app is excellent.

Recently I came across a business opportunity which Barclays supported me with, while offering one of the lowest interest rates in the market. I already have a mortgage with them, their integrated process with the existing mortgage was straight forward.

Sharp selling practice

We had an existing mortgage with Barclays and wanted to borrow some more money against the house for building works (but not immediately when we remortgaged). Following much discussion they recommended we take out the extra as an additional mortgage. What they didn't reveal was there was no way to incorporate the two mortgages into one product without paying the hefty early termination fees (£1500 on each). So, now we need to remortgage and Barclays do not offer a good deal we have no option but to pay two fees rather than just one as expected. At no time was this issue discussed when we were sold this option, it was simply described as the best product for our needs. I'm sure it was there in the small print somewhere but this is really poor customer service, to say the least. Our complaint about this has just been rejected and we will now be taking it to the ombudsman. This is sharp selling practice similar to that seen with PPI in our opinion. A scandal. Avoid this bank at all costs.

Appalling service

Terrible service

Don't give these jokers your business. They employ complete morons to assess your application and also the solicitors provided are useless. Cannot understand simple documentation and time consuming. Don't let the low rates suck you in.
