Appalling mortgage process

Every single step of my mortgage review was as painful as they could possibly make it. It has been over 14 weeks since I started my application and process and I am still waiting on completion. Customer service provide no use only being able to read an old dated comment From my application that’s very brief Rather than an actual update and that’s after holding on their phone lines for over an. Hour and half. The whole structure of the department is baffling. I think over 20 different people must have worked on the application given the amount of times Iv been told it had to be sent to another department for review, every small step of the way I have to wait 5 working days for anything to be done, that includes for someone to read and pass it onto someone else! Overall it is just truly shocking and I won’t ever look to remortgage with them. Reviewed on: 6th February 2021

If you want to lose chance of buying your dream house then go with Barclay otherwise don't even think about it. Over 2 months of my application and no one knows what is happening and none of the clowns sitting in call centers are willing to help. Reviewed on: 6th January 2021

Completely inept employees

As a first time buyer it should be a pretty straight forward process for me, but it wasn’t, the people Barclays hire are completely incompetent at their jobs, we were consistently lied to for 3 months over a document that wasn’t sent out (they told us repeatedly they had) on top of all this, they decided to audit the mortgage application after they were delaying us constantly for around 4 months, this adding another couple of weeks on the the completion date. Please use another company other than Barclays, as soon as I can I will be cutting ties with this company and looking elsewhere. Seems they hire anyone and everyone who really shouldn’t be employed in any capacity. Reviewed on: 15th December 2020

Dealing with them after a bereavement

It took over 6 months for the mortgage team to sort out the account, even though the bereavement team has passed on all of the information required, twice. There was a series lack of communication and so much red tape. I was passed from department to department and no one could help. In what was a very distressing time anyway, having to deal with this for 6 months (whilst still getting letters addressed to the deceased) was overwhelming. I really hope that my complaint has made them reevaluate their processes as I would hate for someone else to experience what I went through Reviewed on: 13th August 2020

used as a internal excerise i feel....

Went through the usual mortgage info gathering routine gave over all they needed......and more... complied with all requests..i honestly feel they know more about me now than i do or gchq and mi5/6....i have an a1 credit rating little debt ..even 2 properties with 50% ltv on each ....all good they said....Then as always they decided to move the goal posts and say no after saying yes its in the bag 100% i have had my time completly waisted for the own selfish internal needs .....i feel exhausted and used by barclays mortgage dept .... Unexplained repayment terms

I have a BTL mortgage and wanted to repay some of the loan value and reduce the repayment term. Barclays suggested paying down the maximum without incurring any penalties. Great I thought, until they conveniently forgot to mention to me that if you pay more than 3 months worth of your usual monthly mortgage payment, they reduce your new monthly amount, BUT the term of the mortgage remains the same. I feel like Barclays were not transparent or clear enough at the time when I made my enquiries and should have been more honest. I wouldn't have even thought to ask them whether they had some sort of '3 month rule'. Lesson learnt! I will be moving to another lender now, once my term with Barclays is up in a few months time and will have cleared a big chunk of my mortgage. I wouldn't recommend Barclays.
