The Barclays Basic Current Account could be an option if you’re not eligible for a bank account, don’t have standard ID or you’re experiencing financial difficulties.

You can have your income paid in, make payments, withdraw cash and set up Direct Debits and standing orders. You won’t be able to apply for an overdraft.

Serious Complaint Mishandled. No Urgency, No Updates

Please think very carefully before banking with Barclays. The mishandling of a serious issue has now resulted in my bank account (with another bank) being frozen, leaving me unable to properly manage my finances and support my two young children. I raised a serious and time-sensitive complaint with Barclays, yet the response from the complaints team has been virtually non-existent. I have received no meaningful updates, no clear ownership of the case and no indication that anyone is treating the matter with the urgency it requires. Despite repeated follow-ups and escalation through the branch manager, there has still been no proper response. What I found particularly upsetting was that when I called Barclays again to explain the seriousness of the situation and the financial impact on my family, I was advised to contact a food bank. The lack of urgency, communication and empathy has been completely unacceptable. This situation is causing my family significant financial stress, yet the complaints team has shown no meaningful sense of responsibility or urgency. The local branch manager has tried to help, but the central complaints handling has been extremely poor. Based on my experience, I would not recommend banking with Barclays. When something serious goes wrong, customers need a bank that communicates, takes ownership and acts quickly. That has not been my experience with Barclays. Reviewed on: 24th September 2026

I like Barclays as they are always trying to protect...

I like Barclays as they are always trying to protect you from fraud.and scams, they have stopped a transaction that they were not happy with and saved me thousands, also recently have given money back to my account that was taken by a scam company so would not change them, they might not have the best interests so I go elsewhere for most of my savings.
