Review of the Barclays, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Poor processes, poor ethics - would avoid

This review is being written by somebody who works at a senior level in the mortgage industry. I have recently been supporting a vulnerable family member handle a mortgage issue with Barclays and I have been astounded at how badly they've been treated by Barclays. Their internal processes break down time and time again which only leads to them dealing in a more and more aggressive way with the customer when things aren't resolved. Banks are huge businesses and sometimes good intentions inevitably fall down because of large scale processes. When that happens, it's the role of senior management and complaints teams to step in and make sure the 'right thing' happens and that the bank is meeting it's legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities. Indeed they proudly promote their values online. Barclays have had dozens of opportunities to do this but have treated the customer extremely harshly and punished them for their own internal mistakes. Compensation provided was paltry as they claimed to be unable to accurately calculate interest costs. Having seen what I've seen now I would recommend to avoid at all costs..
