Review of the Green Flag, Breakdown Insurance:

Avoid if you travel across counties

Green Flag review from this weekend. Absolute nightmare. Copied from my trust pilot review please share! We broke down at 12am having set off from Scotland at 7pm. We had 3 hours left of our journey home. As a family with 2 dogs and a poorly child, we broke down with a caravan in tow - the turbo went on the car so unable to solve roadside therefore recovery needed. Initial call was hopeful - green flag stated it would be 45 mins until they had someone to us as we were a priority having a child and animals on board and as we were on a busy motorway just south of Scotland. 2.5 hours later we have our FIRST OF THREE recovery trucks arrive. He advised Lincoln was not in his area so would take us 1,5 hours to Lymm services where we would be met by the next recovery vehicle " great , that's ok " we thought .... Oh how wrong we were!! Telephone call from green flag advising us that at our ETA at Lymm services we would have a recovery man waiting for us within 30 mins of arrival (6:30/7am) Green flag advised the next part of our recovery would be completed by Eggertons from Lymm services. Upon being dropped off by the first recovery truck , we sat in the lorry park of Eggertons at Lymm services. Saw a truck with a guy sat in it and by 8am contacted Sarah who advised that they were running behind ( 1.5 hours!) and had someone on route to us. We asked if the chap in the lorry park was our driver which she denied. Roll on 10Aam ( 15 hours into the journey) , the same guy sat looking at us at Eggertons lorry park, reverses his truck to our car stating he hadn't received the job and could only take us to the next service station 27 mins away!!! Fuming is an understatement - my little boy was sobbing by this point as he felt so unwell - we are both tired out and stressed and totally flabbergasted at the lack of common sense displayed by green flag , never the less after a rather cross phone call to green flag I am absolutely assured that the next truck will absolutely be with us by 11:10. you guessed it - 12:15 the next one rolled up - thank fully ready equipped to take us all the way home. In short our experience has been a nightmare! Why not put us into a services over night to then recover us the next day in one hit! Utterly outrageous with no courtesy shown for us or the animals left stranded in service stations and roadside for over 11 hours!!! Sort yourselves out green flag - this is totally unacceptable! Disorganised, disjointed, poor communication and utterly dismal dishonest service- don't advertise "national recovery" with the caravan and motorhome clubs if you are blatantly unable to achieve a service to meet the needs of your customers!! Don't go near Green Flag!

Stuck 150 miles from home, it was a simple problem but I did not have tools with me, they refused to come out. Lately, they spend a lot of money on advertising, don't be fooled this is the worst deal you can ever have, don't go near them! Reviewed on: 1st July 2018

Green flag have a few some questions to answer before offering you the best option of breakdown cover. your policy can can cover you from your driveway to your destination and anywhere in between - UK or Europe. Simple mistakes can also be covered at an extra nominal charge, wrong fuel and lost keys. My cover began as a safety net for our UK holiday and I have used them ever since. Fortunately I haven't needed to use the breakdown recovery service but the policy price and customer service over the phone regarding my policy renewal have been excellent. Reviewed on: 9th June 2017

I found myself in a tricky situation 200 miles from home when one of my tyres was damaged and beyond repair. Green Flag quickly sorted a pick up truck who drove me to the nearest garage with my tyres (about 50 miles away as I was in the middle of the highlands). Super service. Reviewed on: 25th August 2016

Left by the Roadside by Green Flag

My dad's 3.5 ton van broke down with a snapped cam belt. He phoned Green Flag, they said they would pick it up the following day as he wasn't able to stay with the vehicle and had to go to work. He's been paying for this service for the past ten years. Their chap comes out today, takes one look at the van, groans and gets a tape measure out. He then says it's 6 inches too long and Green Flag will not allow him to recover it. He then gets on the phone for what seems like an age and leaves. My dad phoned Green Flag several times explaining what's happened, over and over again, to be told each time like they're working to a script that his van is 6 inches too long. Not only will they not pick up his van, but their only offer of compensation is to refund this year's premium. No mention of any kind of compensation for the past ten years when it was apparently not covered at all. They said, quite rudely, that it is his fault for not having read the booklet they sent out with the policy ten years ago. Nobody has an explanation for how, five years ago when the van had a puncture, it was picked up without any issues. My dad had been a very happy customer of Green Flag when his caravan and car were covered for many years before taking out the policy on the van. The service and the way he was patronisingly spoken to today has left him feeling like he has been the victim of a scam! SO IF YOU OWN A VAN YOU BETTER GET YOUR TAPE MEASURE OUT OTHERWISE YOU TOO MAY BE LEFT AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. Reviewed on: 5th August 2016
