Review of the HSBC, Bank Account:

Awful

1
They've closed so many branches and their call centre is often busy. For some reason they've lately taken to suspending my debit card for suspicious activity every few weeks, even though my use of the card is no different from normal. I confirm mundane transactions I've made for small amounts and they lift the suspension again and can't provide me with an explanation of why the activity is deemed suspicious. They've done this twice while I've been in Norway, despite me notifying them in advance the exact days I would be there and using my debit card. I get about seven or eight pieces of junk post from them each month even though I've expressly requested they stop sending it. They've somehow "lost" two standing orders that I'd had running for ages and had set up myself online. They lied about a boost in the ISA savings rate in order to upsell me to a paid current account and admitted two months later I wasn't eligible for the higher interest rate for some nonsense loophole reason that isn't in the terms and it took me a fight to get the money back when I switched back to a free current account. They're just generally shocking really and that's before you factor in the ethical questions of some of their practices both in the UK and worldwide. Terrible, terrible bank. Experience using hsbc

Was able to sign up hassle free compared to other banks because I’m an international student. And the app is not finicky and straightforward to use. Also, they reply to my calls in a concise and helpful manner. Reviewed on: 12th March 2024

Impersonal and slow

HSBC have a global image and might be handy if you’re international. However, I found them to be very impersonal and lacking in basic service. Their telephone colleagues don’t know what to do, and it’s a nightmare speaking to someone in my local branch (average wait 1 hour). App works alright but nothing special. I’m mostly disappointed in their ethical status and lack of value from everyday products. I’ve closed my account and will be going somewhere I’m treated as a person and not number! Careless and arrogant

I called HSBC bereavement team to ask about my late wife's account. The agents on the phone just didn't care. All they wanted was getting me off the phone as quickly as possible. Reviewed on: 2nd March 2024

Couldn’t access my funds to book family holiday.

1
Couldn’t book flights via my debit card because of a bank issue and told me to try tomorrow. By then the seata will be gone and more expensive. Told them to escalate it which they said sure, will take 2 days. Disgusting service when I can’t access my cash to pay for things. After 25 years and many issues over the years, that’s it, I’m done with this terrible bank. Reviewed on: 1st March 2024

Mobile app keeps crashing on payment approvals.

Mobile app keeps crashing on payment approvals. Low interest rates on savings. Bank branches are open a short day and not at times when I can get to one. Cash deposit machines in branch only work on perfect notes meaning neee to queue at counter to deposit cash. Reviewed on: 28th February 2024
