About this product

Marshmallow was founded in 2015, dedicated to providing affordable insurance to those often hit with outrageously high quotes, like students and expats. Marshmallow designed its own systems and writes its own policies, claiming to provide cheaper car and van insurance for all.

Perhaps you have a low credit score and find many insurers penalise you for this,or maybe you’re an expat without a UK driving licence, again, paying extra for your insurance? Marshmallow claims to have affordable policies for all, regardless of factors such as these. Read the Marshmallow car insurance reviews on Smart Money People to see how well the company lives up to these claims.

Have you had an insurance policy with Marshmallow? Did you find your premium cost reasonable in comparison to other quotes? Was the level of cover suited to your needs? After getting the insurance, they will ask all the documents and then cancel it saying we have provided wrong information and then cancel it and make us feel as if we are fraudulent. Insane this is. Will not recommend it to any one. Reviewed on: 28th October 2024

Fraudsters

This is a dodgy company. I paid full year payment but they refused to award 1 year no claims bonus. Demand extra money for no reasons. No customer services number to contact them. They doubled the price saying there is an active claim against my insurance policy where the car has not been involved in an accident. Learnt my lesson from this totally useless company Reviewed on: 26th August 2023

Always happy to assist

Marshmallow were on of the only companies to consider my clean driving history and no claims when moving from another country to England, they also as a result were able to offer me great pricing and options which I am very greatful for and always suggest them for vehicle insurance to everyone I know Reviewed on: 24th August 2023

Fair(ish) price, easy enough

Price was close to what I paid last year despite the increases (others quoting +£200 at a minimum). Everything was fairly simple, had issues uploading my no claims proof but quickly got it sorted by their support Reviewed on: 22nd August 2023

MARSHMALLOW CAR INSURANCE IS SICKLY & NOT SWEET

1
Marshmallow cancelled my insurance due to me not uploading a document after I paid a £200.00 deposit being a new customer for 19 days!!! Everything is completely online so if you enjoy typing, your internet never goes down and you have money to waste, Marshmallow is for you! The CEO'S are money grabbers! I would give no stars if it were possible! Reviewed on: 20th August 2023

The worst car insurance ever

1
It is the worst insurance company in any shape or way a customer could imagine. Everything looks great until you have a claim. Then they will make sure you as a customer go through hell every day. Had an accident nearly a month ago with no third party involvement. Still no sign of any repairs done to the car. In fact the car still has not been sent to any garage. No one to call and their alleged chat system no one bothers to give you a real and proper answer. Sent several messages to their chat system 48 hours ago and I yet to get a response. Their complaint system is close to a joke as it will take 8 weeks to get back to with the outcome of your complaint. If you decide to repair your car at the garage of your choice then they will blackmail you with forcing you to pay the price difference. You choose and pay for courtesy car then it turns out you will only get it if you let them fix your car and the garage has to provide you with one and that’s only when they have your car. So 4 weeks into car been off road still no sign of a courtesy car. Insurances says one thing, their repair network says another thing. Complete disgrace. Avoid this company at any cost. Pay a little more and choose a proper company to insure and save yourself a big headache. Reviewed on: 17th August 2023

Avoid

I don’t tend to write reviews but this company has vexed me to the point that others should be warned. It’s all good till you have an accident then getting in touch with anyone after making the initial new claim is like trying to get blood out of a stone. I’ve resorted to filing a complaint against them for the overall handling of my claim of which I’ll still have to deal with for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately as a web based company there’s no phone number for the claim team or customer service. When I do get through on the live chat. I’m told different things by different people trying to shift responsibility onto one another with no actual resolve. Pay more for a different company because the amount of stress that marshmallow has given me. It’s honestly not worth it. If you value your sanity and overall health, avoid marshmallow. So, picture this: I hopped on the insurance train just 10 days back, thinking I had it all figured out. Little did I know, they're like "11+ years of No Claims Discount? Nah, can't handle that!" So, I'm all like, "Ring ring!" to sort things out. But oh boy, their phone line is like a rollercoaster – it only takes you on a wild ride to their third-party claim team, who are basically stuck in the 'no cancellation or amendment' maze. I ventured into the mystical realm of chat, and after a whopping 3 hours, a genie finally emerged from the digital lamp. I was all polite like, "Hey, I wanna bid adieu to this policy," and poof! They vanished like a magician's rabbit. Round two of chat battle: I summon my chat wizardry again, only to have them shuffle me off to a new chat conjurer. This sorcerer, determined to test my patience, made sure my policy hit the 14-day mark and then hit me with the grand ultimatum – fork over 120+ quid for cancellation antics, or it's a "measly" 30 quid. Talk about a frosty reception, like they're the bouncers of the insurance club. And don't even get me started on their "customer support." It's like spotting Bigfoot – you hear about it, but actually finding it? Not a chance. If they won't give us the VIP treatment, the least they could do is let us break up online. Instead, it's like dealing with a persistent itch in the least pleasant of places. So, my advice? Stay far, far away from this insurance circus. Your sanity will thank you later! They ended up causing me to get a ccj

1
Two years ago my car broke down on the M4, I waited hours to be picked up which to be honest I was fine with. I know this is just how it is, they guy couldnt take me the whole way so parked my car at a service station. I waited another many hours to be picked up by another tow truck and eventually Marshmallow stated it was just going to get a taxi for me and take me home. I asked them, should i take my car keys with me, they stated yes. The taxi came and I left. About 10-15 min later the tow truck company called me and asked where the keys were, I stated I had taken them. Basically in the end of this even though I stated I could come back and drop of the keys, they told me to not worry about this and to not come back. They left the car there and I got a parking ticket. In jan when I received it, I emailed Marshmallow and wrote a complaint. I never heard back and 1 uear later I see a CCJ on my credit report which has taken me £1000 to sort out and get taken off. I have written another complaint letter to Marshmallow about this recently and still not received a response even after 2 months. Reviewed on: 14th August 2023

Communication improvement

I had insurance with marshmallow for the past few years, this year I had an accident and the communication was very slow with myself chasing up the situation.  After sending over a complaint I am happy to say the communication has improved and hopefully my claim will be settled in a swift manner, good job on changing my opinion Reviewed on: 14th August 2023

Total fraud and scammers

1
Try to cancel my insurance with them within 14 days cooling off period, no response for days, had to chat with bot and when finally someone responded they charged me above the cancellation fee of £30 despite being in cooling off period and should be only that fee. They are asking for too much personal information without reason and trying to upload on them site which did not work, it is total disgrace and shambles. On top of that they are not registered with FCO in UK and are registered in America how they are allowed to operate and collect information is beyond me. They are interested only for taking your money! Be warned Reviewed on: 11th August 2023
