Bank completely unhelpful

My bank card was used illegally to make a purchase. I reported this and the bank card was stopped. This means I cannot get cash without going to the bank or of course buy anything (I do not have a credit card in order not to run up debts). It is 11 days to Christmas - I have all the Christmas shopping to do for 6 people for Christmas dinner (ordered on line for delivery with now rejected card) plus of course the basics. I am 74 and now have to draw out wads of cash, carry it around and hope I am nt mugged..Apart from not being able to carry all the shopping - I would normally have ordered it online.. When I was in the Barnet branch reporting this the assistants seemed to find it very amusing. Obviously will be leaving Nationwide as soon as possible. And abslutely no thanks to Nationwide for the way they dealt with a 'good' customer who has been with them for years with no banking problems to concern them - when I really needed some help. They can only say a new card will be sent by post in 7 days. Goodbye Nationwide. Reviewed on: 15th December 2021

The worst bank available in the UK

I was a victim of fraud and was told a new card must be sent out to me. this never arrived for 3 weeks. Called back to advise and they sent another car. another 3 weeks passed and nothing arrived so called back again to ask if this could be sent 1st class tracked royal mail as opposed to 2nd class mail. they advised no. they cannot offer this service. Advised I've waited 8 weeks now for replacement card. This was right before christmas and having called them no less than TEN TIMES, it still hasnt been resolved and i am still unable to access my own money in the bank unless I catch the bus to town and withdraw the money from the only remaining branch they have left in the city. This bank/building society have absolutely no interest whatsoever in your issues or problems you face, they have zero empathy for customers and no drive to assist them, alt all. Their customer service is absolutely appalling and the minions that answer the phone to offer the customer service are an absolute shambles. The people above them that they go to for authorisation' also will never do any favours for any customer, and will reject any request you make. It would have cost this bank an extra £1.25 to send my debit card out via recorded delivery and sent me the tracking number. They wont pay the extra £1.25. They wont send you a tracking number, nothing. Avoid this outfit like the plague. I would rather have be paid cash in a little brown envelope for the rest of my life than bank with this organisation for another day. I have switched quickly and efficiently to LLOYDS bank who sent me a new debit card within 2 working days and sent this out to me via courier. A much, much better service. Go for a real bank if you are looking to switch accounts. Do not make the mistake I made. Nationwide have ruined Christmas in my household because they wouldn't pay and extra £1 and are easily worse than the Coventry building society as a company. And that is seriously difficult to achieve. Honestly, I'd rather pull my eyes out with a wooden spoon than stay with this shower of useless, effortless, penny pinching let downs. Do yourself a huge favour and go to Lloyds, HSBC, Halifax, RBS, one of the mainstream banks who offer a proper banking service no matter the cost Reviewed on: 13th December 2021

Not what promised..

Recently opened Flex Account and had to move all my DD's myself as previous bank YBS aren't part of switching service. Due to this Nationwide won't pay the £125 switch bonus. So I spend hours on the phone to switch DD's and Nationwide say hard luck! So much for rewarding their members! Reviewed on: 7th December 2021

Giving up on them after 32 years

They have always been a bit backward, but their systems are just rubbish and only seem to be getting worse. Their staff while friendly enough are resigned to a "computer says no" attitude. Reviewed on: 22nd November 2021

Unauthorised illegal third party acess plus out of their way to cause probs

The bank staff worse than useless and rascists. They even kept sending letters saying we owed money when we did not as £1 or £2? When we went to the bank to sort it out (as they forced us)they refused and v rude, then sending more letters lies that we ‘owed’ money to try antagonise and try to get us tong onto their bank-the first time they did that and forced us to go visit Newcastle 2 or 3 yrs ago they refunded-subsequently they send more letter lying we owed £1 -£2 refused refunds(would affect credit rating !) We don’t even use that account for years / we even tried to close said account but they refused?! other issues also they were allowing UNAUTHORISED and ILLEGAL acess to account by a third party Other issues ongoing with Nationwide also antagonistic abusive staff -recently after not using account for years request for card but they said fine many times but don’t send it, they’re disgusting and waste of time, hours on phone, also waste of time-their racial harassment- we closing down this account now - we want to close it abs have tried to previously, so they have to close it-not up to them to them to keep it open to harass / abuse us with Reviewed on: 29th October 2021

home insurance worthless

Racist unethical fraudulent , breaking the confidentiality law

Races, breaking confidentiality law and making fraudulent claims, the notorious shameless Kingswinford branch! We have always been treated very poorly by this branch, and reading the reviews, we are not the only ones. Their complaint procedure is sham, others state this as well. We are shaken by our experience in this branch. We took our son to open his first account. The staff were, as races, arrogant, lazy, and unprofessional as ever. They whisper whilst looking at us or other customers. Then they will give all confidential information, like how much money you have in your bank etc through a laud speaker by which, all other customers will hear. We asked their help to open our son's first account. The manager asked responded loudly through a loud speaker - ARE YOU DISABLED THAT YOU CANT OPEN IT YOURSELF?? Speechless and frozen we were. -WHAT IS YOUR DISABILITY?? Ashe showed again. Then gave us a leaflet with a bit of scribbles on and said ' YOU DO IT'. We left humiliated and upset. The scribbles were all wrong informations, the phone number provided was not even in use. But since we were not disabled, and that they were lazy, we did open our son's account. Two weeks later, we received a complaint letter accusing our son who never spoke these staff with bored house wive attitudes, accept giving his name and dob shyly, then sitting back at the chair out of the way, calling my son, 'YOU WERE AGGRESSIVE, INAPPROPRIATE AND MADE STAFF UNCOMFORTABLE'. Now, our son had never got of his chair or spoke, accept when asked, giving his name, and DOB. So, this incompetent and unethical people made a false allegation against our child. We then called them and requested an investigating for this fraudulent complain. Instead, a man from complain department said 'STAFF DID THEIR BEST, YOU ARE WRONG' then hanged up. What kind of a bank is this, we put our money in to their trust, by which they earn money, but they do not treat equally respectfully. The staff is not trained professionalism or ethics. We are going to ombudsman and removing our bank to a place where our custom will be valued. Reviewed on: 14th October 2021
