Between the myriad of people dragged into this small job on a claim made in June 2025, they all argued amongst themselves and lost sight of us as the customer, wasting our time, energy and any confidence we had in our insurers. In January 2026, we fixed the problem ourselves. They don't care about their customers. They care about taking your money and treating you with contempt. Read more Read less

    Very bad

Nationwide FlexDirect account blocked – left me and my child with nothing I hold a Nationwide FlexDirect account, and it was blocked without warning on the very day my tenancy ended. I am a single mother with a 12-year-old child. All of my money is held in this FlexDirect account. Because Nationwide blocked it, I was unable to pay one month’s rent and one month’s deposit for my new property, despite providing full tenancy agreements, proof of income and transaction history exactly as requested. Nationwide instructed me to upload documents, which I did immediately, and then told me to wait five working days. During this time, I was left without accommodation, unable to pay even for one night in a hotel, and unable to buy food for myself or my child because I had no access to my own money. I also called Nationwide’s complaints number and spoke to a staff member named Tracy. I provided extremely sensitive personal information, including my account number, sort code, full personal details, dates, and addresses covering the last three years. I answered all questions in full. When asked about recent transactions, I gave the exact amounts spent, but explained that I could not remember the exact shop names for every transaction. Tracy then stated that I had “failed to respond”, refused to ask any further questions, and told me I would need to call back, despite already having disclosed all my private details. This treatment was hostile, unreasonable and completely lacking empathy, especially given my situation as a single parent facing homelessness. There was no urgency, no compassion and no practical support — only delays and scripted responses. This is money I have worked hard for, and all funds were legitimate and fully evidenced. Blocking a FlexDirect account in this way, and handling a complaint so poorly, shows a complete lack of duty of care and a shocking disregard for the real-life consequences of these actions. I strongly warn others: Nationwide can deny you access to your own money without notice, even in an emergency involving a child’s welfare. This experience has been devastating and entirely avoidable. I will be taking this matter further. Read more Read less

    Great to bank with

Been with Nationwide as long as I’ve had a bank account. Never had an issue with them and they’ve been great when I’ve needed help.

Which building society 2025 hate to see who they were upagainst! Firstly, the staff are lovely. I decided to do a switch, as I'd seen on the TV that they were a great building society etc winning Which 2025. I liked the fact I would be rewarded with £175. My switch has gone through - I am apparently not eligible for the switch reward. Bit gutted however, thought at least all my accounts are in one place. Went to set up standing orders... Can't do it, I need a card reader, and I haven't got a pin number. Can't set up any payments at all. Tried adding money through my Monzo account, for a fast payment, a post office van collecting from Nationwide and personally delivering my money to Monzo headiffice would have been quicker! Spoke to customer services, however, I'm trying to figure out what they are actually authorised to do! I'm now closing my account my Nationwide and have to go through the hassle and stress of opening a brand new account elsewhere. The money that is due into my Nationwide, has left me panicking as I have no idea what will happen. I am hoping that I can go into the branch tomorrow and empty my account. EDIT - I have raised a compliant NBS8449055 and no one has contacted me. In relation to my money that I was worried about. I went into the bank today and £520 has disappeared from my current account that is now closed! Which seems to be spinning around Nationwide's hemisphere and not with me. Two days I have been left with nothing, and it does not look like things will be any better tomorrow. Now been told that I have been issued a cheque, which is not want I asked for. I have to now wait for the cheque to be cleared, sent out and then I have to pay into another account and wait for it to clear. Does not help me as I have bills, food shopping and will be left in financial hardship. So thanks Nationwide! Read more Read less

Trying to get answers online is almost impossible and very stressful, I was eventually given a refund from a company I used with no help from nationwide, it showed on my online account for a day then dissappeared showing I still owed all the full original payment, when I eventually got hold of someone from nationwide after a lengthy wait they told me that I did get the refund and stated the refund which was £100 short, when I questioned it, again after a lengthy wait I was told sorry typing error! There should be a way of seeing refunds until clear all the time online, not just for a day! I'm looking at sourcing another credit card company, I have zero trust or confidence in nationwide now.
