An Ethical Alternative in Mainstream Banking

Nationwide is a great environmentally sound and ethical alternative to the planet-wrecking, consciousness-lacking traditional banks. While they are not as green as, for example, Triodos or Ecology Building Society, they offer a broader range of services and are mainstream—a household name. They also provide a substantial number of local branches, making them easily accessible. Their employees, both online and in branches, are friendly and knowledgeable, always keen to help with any queries or concerns. I have been banking with them for eight years and have been very happy, although more recently I have reduced the number of products I hold with them in favour of even more environmentally and ethically focused providers: Triodos and Ecology Building Society, both of whom I can also highly recommend. Excellent customer service

Had a savings account with nationwide that I had forgot existed. They were in touch because letters were being returned due to wrong address. Went into branch to sort out. Customer service was brilliant. Very fast and friendly. Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

Would love a higher monthly deposit

I am now 6 months in to my third consecutive Flex Regular Saver. In a perfect world, I'd be able to deposit more than £200 monthly. Reviewed on: 1st April 2026

Always reliable!

I like Nationwide as it is an easy bank to deal with, whether online, via their app or else in-Branch. I find it reassuring that, while my nearest Branch is 18 miles away, I know it's there and not planning to close so is available if I need to do a personal face-to-face transaction Reviewed on: 20th February 2026

I have liked my Nationwide Savings account for a lon...

I have liked my Nationwide Savings account for a long time, but the other day all of my accounts were missing on the app. The customer service was not very reassuring, and simply told me to take my ID to branch. I went to a branch and they unblocked my accounts, but I was left with no access to any of my money for more than 24 hours with no warning and no notification that my accounts had been blocked. Feeling at home with another branch!
