Great bank, so no surprise the mortgages are good too

Been with Nationwide for accounts and savings and enjoyed it. See my bank account review for them. So when it came to getting a mortgage, it was likely to be Nationwide. They were actually the 3rd cheapest option for us, but we still went with them as we both had good experiences with them. The mortgage allows overpayments, a choice of how it's processed, and only takes £500 to trigger (much less than a previous mortgage I had). They also base the overpay limit on the original mortgage value, not the current; allowing you to pay more without hitting a penalty. Reviewed on: 7th September 2024

A Harsh Lesson in Discrimination Against Caregivers...

A Harsh Lesson in Discrimination Against Caregivers and disabilities. I am writing this review with deep disappointment and absolute frustration after my recent experience with Nationwide Building Society. Initially, I was thrilled to receive a mortgage offer, allowing us to proceed with plans to relocate closer to family and provide much-needed support for my partner following her stroke. However, our excitement turned to disbelief when the offer was abruptly withdrawn. The reason? Nationwide refused to acknowledge the validity of my career break, a time dedicated to caring for my partner during her rehabilitation. During this period, we solely relied on our own savings and investments to support ourselves, never seeking any government assistance. Despite my strong financial history, significant assets, and a promising new career as a CEO in the veterinary industry, they penalized me for prioritizing my family's well-being. This experience exposed a disturbing truth: Nationwide, and perhaps the broader financial industry, lacks empathy and understanding towards caregivers. Their rigid policies and reliance on traditional employment history create a system that indirectly discriminates against individuals who have made sacrifices for their loved ones. It's a harsh reminder that even major institutions like Nationwide fail to recognize the realities of life and the diverse paths individuals take. Their actions send a clear message: if you choose to care for a family member who suffers sudden life changing illness, your financial future may be jeopardized. This serves as a stark reminder to any individual who now must have to face the reality that discrimination comes in all forms in this particular case the Nationwide. Reviewed on: 15th August 2024

Amazing Product Offering

5
I got my first home loan in the UK this year and I went through a mortgage broker who directed me to Nationwide. Their mortgage product offering was incredible. There were so many options available to me and I particularly liked their First Home Buyer's Mortgage. I had initially gone for that one but then unfortunately the valuation on the property came back too low for it. However, as they had so many options I was able to select a different loan and I still got my flat! Reviewed on: 13th June 2024

Customer service is highly incompetent and refuse to be engaged with my questions by just providing generic explanations. Seller is about to withdraw from transaction because of the delay.
