Reviews for Admiral have trended negatively over the past 90 days

Admiral’s car and home insurance often impress with easy online services, competitive multi-cover discounts, and friendly customer support. However, many have faced frustratingly slow, poor claims handling and unexpected price hikes, especially with car and travel insurance. The LittleBox telematics product also draws strong criticism for unfair scoring and poor communication.

Positive themes

  • Admiral Car insurance’s app and website make managing policies really straightforward.
  • Multi-cover discounts on car and home insurance with Admiral save a fair bit.
  • Admiral’s customer service is often friendly and helpful when you get through.

Negative themes

  • Claims with Admiral Car insurance often drag on with poor communication and delays.
  • Renewal prices for Admiral Car and Home insurance frequently jump up unfairly.
  • Admiral LittleBox telematics policy scores unfairly and cancels without warning.

Avoid like the plague they'll seize every opportunity to drag your claim out and then make up a £'s number to only pay back part of your claim. Deviously using calculations that they make up to reduce the payment with no evidence. There's a reason why they rate poorly on reviews , I only wish I'd read before . When they let you down ....and they will , definitely go to the Financial Ombudsman. Plenty of much better alternatives Read more Read less

I rarely leave reviews, but after the experience I had with Admiral Insurance, I honestly feel people should know how badly my claim was handled before deciding to insure with them. My theft claim went on for more than 7 months and the entire process was extremely stressful, confusing, and exhausting. Throughout those 7 months I received very poor communication and almost no proper updates unless I constantly chased them myself by phone or email. Every time I contacted Admiral, I was told they were “waiting for the file handler to review the case” or “waiting for another report.” Nobody could ever give me proper answers, proper timelines, or explain why things were taking so long. The claims team repeatedly told me they could not do anything and that I just had to wait for the file handler to contact me. Most of the time the file handler never replied to emails or got back to me when promised. Whenever they finally did contact me, I was repeatedly asked the same questions over and over again despite already giving statements and information multiple times. It honestly felt like my case was just being dragged on endlessly with no real progress. The police recovered my vehicle after around 2 months, and at that point I even asked whether I could simply take my vehicle back. Instead of helping, I was told that if I wanted my car back I would need to pay certain costs, but nobody clearly explained what those costs actually were or what options I had. I was then told I had to wait until the investigation finished before anything else could happen regarding the claim or vehicle settlement. So for months I was left without proper answers, without my vehicle, and without any real understanding of the condition of the car or what was happening with it. After more than 7 months of delays and poor communication, I submitted a formal complaint because I felt completely ignored. Only after I raised the formal complaint did a supervisor suddenly contact me and tell me I would receive a final decision by the end of the week. Shortly afterwards, my claim was rejected. The reason given was that the vehicle system showed two coded keys. However, the vehicle was purchased USED and I was only ever given one key when I bought it. Many used vehicles originally come with multiple keys from previous owners, so treating this as proof against me felt unfair and unreasonable. I also found Admiral’s conclusions contradictory and confusing. On one hand they stated there was “no theft-related damage” to the vehicle, but on the other hand they classified the car as a Category N write-off due to “damage sustained.” Despite asking questions, I was never properly told what damage existed, when it happened, or how the vehicle could supposedly have no theft damage while still being written off as damaged. What makes the situation even worse is that even after rejecting my claim, I am STILL waiting for Admiral to send me the terms and conditions or paperwork needed so I can arrange to get my own car back. So after more than 7 months of delays, poor communication, and stress, I am still left waiting without proper answers. This entire experience has been extremely frustrating and stressful. I expected fairness, transparency, proper communication, and support from my insurer during a difficult situation, but unfortunately that was not my experience with Admiral Insurance at all. Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend people carefully compare other insurance companies before choosing Admiral. Read more Read less

Cancelled insurance for no good reason - please avoid!

Today Admiral cancelled my travel insurance four days before I'm due to leave the country, because I mentioned that as part of my ongoing care for a condition I have already disclosed to them, I will be undergoing a routine procedure. Despite the fact that this is not a diagnostic procedure and the condition itself is extremely low-risk, their underwriters apparently cannot cope with the idea that sometimes hospitals do things to people (who knew?). I had rung to check all my medical info was up-to-date, only to find that the system insisted the customer service agent delete all the data and start again. So I wasted an hour of my life giving them information they already had, at the end of which they said that they had to make some checks and would call me back to discuss my options. They would attempt to call me 3 times in the next few days and if I didn't pick up they would cancel my insurance - as if somehow being permanently available is possible or reasonable? - and when they did call back, they gave me no options at all. They just told me that they would no longer insure me. I dealt with the same customer service agent throughout who was extremely apologetic and did his best for me, but it was clear that the decisions are made behind the scenes by people who don't need to deal with the actual impact on people's lives. I was left uninsured a few days before taking my mum abroad for her 80th birthday. In case you think I'm underplaying the medical condition and procedure: after I got over the shock of having my insurance cancelled, I called AllClear to ask if they would insure me. Not only was my procedure not a problem, it was so negligible that they told me not to mention it, as it was part and parcel of the medical condition I disclosed. Unless you're happy for your insurance provider to withdraw cover for arbitrary reasons, I would avoid Admiral like the plague. Read more Read less

Avoid at all costs you will pay for a service you won't get - they don't give a sh*t about their customers. After another driver crashed and wrote off my car it took two years for my claim to be resolved. There was a serious lack of communication and care in their handling of my case. At one point they lost the information I provided and had to send it to them again - this alone delayed the process by months, I even had a scare letter from the 3rd party insurer. Any update was only provided after I rang them myself or through external sources such as their solicitors. I complained to Admiral numerous times but it made no difference. Having read other reviews I can see other people have had similar experiences. I have since left Admiral and switched to another company who has provided much cheaper insurance. Read more Read less

Very disappointed with the overall experience I had with Admiral regarding my motor claim. I was a long-term customer and also paid extra for legal cover, expecting professional support and proper representation. Instead, I experienced repeated delays, poor communication, lack of updates, and had to continuously chase for information myself. One of the most frustrating parts was that delays in progressing the claim and recovery process resulted in evidence becoming harder to obtain over time, while the claim continued being recorded as fault and impacting my insurance pricing. What concerned me most was being advised during a call to consider a 50/50 outcome despite consistently maintaining that I was not at fault and after providing supporting evidence. That did not feel like the level of support I expected from a company I had trusted for years. Admiral eventually upheld parts of my complaint themselves, acknowledging delays and communication failures, and restored my no claims bonus. However, after all the stress, time, increased insurance costs, and frustration caused throughout the process, the compensation offered felt very poor considering the amount paid over the years in premiums and additional cover. The claim is still ongoing through solicitors, but overall this experience has seriously damaged my confidence in the company and unfortunately I would not feel comfortable recommending Admiral to friends or family based on how this situation was handled. This cowboy insurance company would not pay out when my dog developed epilepsy, they said after months of investigating our claim and liasing with vets and their reports etc said it was a pre existing condition, our vets disputed this. Suffice to say we cancelled our policy with them shortly after. We had to pay £2,000 to the veterinary hospital. Absolutely disgusting company look at trustpilot reviews so many people saying the same thing they are happy to take your premium but will never pay out when you make a claim. PLEASE AVOID at all costs! Read more Read less

He is 92 and he was getting very anxious about his renewal premium. I called Admiral on his behalf and the lady I spoke to applied the maximum retention discount (which meant that his renewal premium this year stayed roughly the same as the price he paid last year). I have given Admiral 5 stars on the basis that their premiums and customer service are both excellent. Read more Read less
