Court possession NOT covered- Claim Declined

Travel insurance 28th May 2025

Later thst month I get a letter from the local County Court and also from my mortgage solicitors that the mortgage company were looking to repossess my flat. Court hearing was arranged for the 13th May...two days AFTER I was supposed to be on holiday. I sent emails to the Court and Solicitors requesting to move the date till after the 18th May (as noone had consulted me about the date or whete/what I may have booked for that date). There was NO response from either. So I cancelled my holiday with Jet2 and started a claim through my Admiral Policy. I rang them to check I could claim and they said yes. Now, I had checked their conditions and the ONLY case for cancellation was for Jury service. My case was more critical than just Jury service...it was about losing my flat! I has to appear in court..no choice. Would you not have attended? I don't think so. Anyway, claim started on 6th May. Today 28th May I have found out that the case has gone to Underwriting and been declined!!! Reason...its not covered like Jury service would be. I was fuming. The holiday was only £550. Admiral would take £150 as an admin fee leaving me with c. £400. So a minimal amount to them. I complained. They requested any other documentation that I may have. I replied that it's a black and white case. The documents they have (If they checked the dates on them) would clearly show a timeliness of booking holiday, receiving letters from Court and Solicitors and the holiday cancellation and final Court attendance date. Simple. Obvious...out of my control..Had to attend or lose my flat. I can see from other reviews that Admiral "cop out" on the simplest if cases. I'm sure my case was declined simply because it hasn't happened before and they have no business case for it. So the right thing to do was to pay out on my claim and THEN amend their claim conditions. I will keep on to them as I feel an injustice has been done. I noticed that most if the good reviews are when purchasing the pics and using their website. Wake up people. That will ALWAYS be the case as they want your money. A true reflection of this company is when something happens outside your control and you need to claim. This us the true test of a good company. I can honestly say Admiral have fallen way short here. You could say the policy wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Staysure travel insurance were more expensive so I didn't go with them. As the saying goes....you only get what you pay for. Anyway..after my court appearance I was told I would have to go back at around 28 days for another court hearing. Luckily the Courts are very busy at the moment so I have a reprieve till a date in September. Thet say things come in threes....As if the 2nd May I also lost my job and Admiral know this. So Admirals decision to decline is properly kicking me in the teeth when I'm down. Enough said. Read more Read less

Tried to claim for missed flight due to power outage in Spain. Reject on basis it is an exclusion. They tried to pin rejection on the power failure but I claimed as could not get a taxi bus or train and missed flight. They say any conflict in terms is overridden by exclusion. I said the power outage was not my claim. I just couldn’t get to the airport. I am sure many thousands of people will have similar claim rejected that day. Very convenient for the insurers. If it had been due to a volcano or earthquake then all good. But an electrical event caused by weather is not covered Read more Read less

Very disappointed with my travel insurance experience. I wasn’t able to go away due to my daughter coming down with chicken pox. I called straight away to let them know I wasn’t able to travel. I got doctors letters along with form they requested to be filled out, flight cancellations forms done. Proof of bank payments with emails to show I wasn’t issued refunds. Hotel cancellation letters with proof of no refund. Train tickets with proof it was not refundable It still wasn’t enough. Still waiting weeks on end for an outcome to my claim. They are taking excess fee for myself of £50 fine but also an extra £50 for my daughter who’s under two. It’s disgusting how I’ve been treated. It’s taken a toll on my mental wellbeing because I’m feeling exhausted and so upset, Which has caused me stress related headaches leading me to bed and having to make a doctors appointment. I wouldn’t recommend using admiral. They sell you the what you think sounds great with “we cover you for this and that” and are lovely as you like when it comes to taking your money and joining them. But when it come to needing to claim they treat you so poorly and they want to do anything they can to not pay out. Read more Read less

I tried to make a claim for my missed flight due to my wife having a stroke while on holiday. I have my own policy and tried to claim back my flight and I was told to claim on my wife’s insurance which she doesn’t have as she is a cancer sufferer and insurance is far to expensive so what is the point in me have my own personal insurance. I couldn’t just leave her as she was unable to walk or attend the toilet. So I have cancelled my policy as it’s not worth the paper it’s written on Read more Read less

    Difficult and Flawed Process

My wife had her purse stolen whilst on holiday in Spain, resulting in her losing a designer purse, designer handbag, some cash and a mobile... My wife had her purse stolen whilst on holiday in Spain, resulting in her losing a designer purse, designer handbag, some cash and a mobile phone. We initially felt reassured as we had a travel policy in place. However on making a claim this reassurance has unravelled piece by piece. The way they work is that the handbag/purse are one claim, the cash is another, and the phone is another (gadget), and each claim is independent of the rest and have their own excess charge to pay! On top of this the whole claim process requires a huge amount of information and multiple proof of ownership of each item. I'm not exaggerating when I say the claim took about 8 hours, scouring bank statements, credit card bills, photo albums, calls to phone providers etc. Unfortunately we were unable to find some of the information, and in one case the value of the items was disputed resulting in 2 out of 3 claims being rejected. Finally, for the phone cover, consumers should be aware that they dont do old for new, nor even have a threshold for one for new as their analogy is "well you could have a ten year old phone" (which we didn't, as they can see this based on the huge amount of information and evidence they asked me to provide). The process is not user friendly, and overwhelmingly feels designed to significantly reduce the chance for payout. All in all, I would urge significant caution when taking an Admiral Policy - read the small print, and pay a little extra for a more robust and consumer friendly package. Read more Read less

User Admiral Travel insurance since 2023 & upgraded to Platinum each year. Jan 25 we had goods stolen from our cases in France CDG airport. We had a brand new pair of trainers & a bottle of perfume from duty free in Miami. Paris was a 6 hr stop on way back to UK. We had receipts & we know it happened in CDG My Mom had items taken from her case too in CDG and they didn’t go from MIami! We had receipts & put a claim in against the theft. Admiral has rejected our claim of under £200 for insurance that costs us £££ per year! Thank god it was £££’s stolen and a couple of hundred. All staff just fobbes us off saying our claim is under investigation. This has been on going for nearly 4 months of forms & calls. It’s as if they just want us to get fed up of chasing. I would never recommend this company for world wide travel insurance. Please don’t make the same mistake that we did by going with Admiral. Our renewal was due in March this year we have now gone with another company. We will never use Admiral again for any insurance! Read more Read less

    Claiming, a waste of time

I took out Admiral Gold travel insurance, only to later discover I already had an active policy on the same account. There was no warning... I took out Admiral Gold travel insurance, only to later discover I already had an active policy on the same account. There was no warning or flag—just a duplicated payment. While frustrating, that’s not even the main issue. My bag was stolen during my trip. I submitted claims for the stolen items, one of which I also claimed on my home insurance. That claim was handled and paid within days. In contrast, several weeks later, I’m still caught in a repetitive and drawn-out process with Admiral. Admiral advertises a 10-day response time for claims, which is already quite lengthy. What they don’t mention is that this is just an initial review. If they need additional evidence, they’ll ask for it at the end of that period—triggering a new 10-day wait with each new request. The real problem is that they don’t assess the entire claim upfront. Instead, they stop at the first issue they encounter, request evidence, and only move on once that’s resolved—creating a cycle of delays. For instance, I mentioned in my original submission that one of the stolen items was a gifted electric toothbrush. Despite this, they made two further evidence requests over the following 20+ days without ever addressing that item. Only now have they asked for proof of ownership. Their solution? A “gift claim form” that must be completed and signed by the person who gave me the toothbrush—despite it already being listed in the official police report. Alternatively, I could submit a photo of myself with the item… because we all have selfies with our toothbrushes, right? At best, this process feels disorganised. At worst, it appears designed to discourage or reduce payouts. Insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind. Instead, I’ve spent more time chasing this claim than it would’ve taken me to earn the amount I’m claiming for. It's been a total waste of time. To make matters worse, I shared this frustration in a recent call with Kane (standing in for the usual handler, Tilly). Both were polite and professional, but clearly restricted by the flawed process. When I explained my concerns, Kane offered to raise a formal complaint—though clarified this would not speed up the claim or change its handling. In short: my reward for highlighting how much time and effort this claim has taken? An offer to spend more time on a separate complaint process that leads nowhere. Read more Read less
