Admiral Travel Insurance-DO NOT BUY.

1
Admiral Travel Insurance-DO NOT BUY. I had an annual family travel policy. My husband died unexpectedly in Feb 25, and we were due to travel on a family holiday in April 25. Needless to say my two children and I felt unable to go away as we were still in shock. Admiral made my life even more difficult at this very upsetting time by refusing to reimburse the holiday costs. Despite sending the death certificate they insisted I pay my GP for a letter to say the death was unexpected and no previous illness. I did say to my GP ‘I don’t know why I’ve bothered buying travel insurance all these years because when you really need the help, the insurers don’t want to know’. After many weeks they finally agreed to pay my husband’s 25% of the cost, less £300 excess (£75 per person per claim!)- gee thanks Admiral for your compassion and kindness.. I WILL NEVER BUY INSURANCE FROM THEM AGAIN. Reviewed on: 12th August 2025

Holiday booked for 22nd March 2025.

Holiday booked for 22nd March 2025. Had a stroke and unable to go, so put a claim in April. After continuous questions that I answered they finally paid out a percentage of the claim. They say they aim for 6 weeks, actually took 16 weeks of back and forth. Absolutely ridiculous. At the end because I hadn't claimed I had a TIA 5 years previous only gave me a percentage. Claim to be a top firm, almost want to know what I had for breakfast day of stroke. Avoid and go elsewhere. All good untill paying back. Avoid Reviewed on: 7th August 2025

Admiral travel insurance - Legal Scam

1
Myself and my wife had booked a holiday to Ireland and on the day of travel, a storm hit and all flights were cancelled. The airline - Aer Lingus (would rather swim over there than having to deal with them ever again), refused to refund the flights as it was "an act of God" and only offered us an alternative 4 days later. We contacted Admiral Travel insurance and it all started really well, submitted all the information, had to ring them a few times and was assured on the phone that all the information was good, it just needed final approval for the payment, that's when the troubles started. Someone up above rejected the payment and said that we needed to provide them with evidence that Aer Lingus refused to give us a flight within 24 hours of our original flight (these exact words were required). We have tried to contact Aer Lingus for the past 6 months and they just use bots to answer to emails (no humans or brain cells in sight), when I informed Admiral of this and asked them to chase them, they refused and then cancelled my claim as insufficient evidence has been provided (have provided them over 10 documents of information, screenshots and over 10 emails to Aer Lingus). Moral of the story - Admiral will gladly take your money, but I would feel more confident surviving in a pen full of hungry lions than I do getting my money back of these scam artists! Had to return home due to unexpected family bereavement whilst on holiday in March 2025. Initially Admiral were very good in dealing with my claim but unfortunately on my return they have kept asking for more info and documentation, In particular some of the info requested is irrelevant to the claim and very personal to the individual who passed away. I have not kept me informed and have been left seriously out of pocket for cutting the holiday short and the expenditure for additional flights back home. Reviewed on: 22nd July 2025

Avoid their travel insurance like the plague.

1
Avoid their travel insurance like the plague. It contains a clause that excludes claims if someone in your family becomes unwell or dies from a pre-existing condition, EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE UNWELL. So don't buy their travel insurance under any circumstances because you won't get your money back if a family issue stops you from travelling. Reviewed on: 26th June 2025

Court possession NOT covered- Claim Declined

1
I purchased my weeks holiday in early April to Greece on 11th May. Later thst month I get a letter from the local County Court and also from my mortgage solicitors that the mortgage company were looking to repossess my flat. Court hearing was arranged for the 13th May...two days AFTER I was supposed to be on holiday. I sent emails to the Court and Solicitors requesting to move the date till after the 18th May (as noone had consulted me about the date or whete/what I may have booked for that date). There was NO response from either. So I cancelled my holiday with Jet2 and started a claim through my Admiral Policy. I rang them to check I could claim and they said yes. Now, I had checked their conditions and the ONLY case for cancellation was for Jury service. My case was more critical than just Jury service...it was about losing my flat! I has to appear in court..no choice. Would you not have attended? I don't think so. Anyway, claim started on 6th May. Today 28th May I have found out that the case has gone to Underwriting and been declined!!! Reason...its not covered like Jury service would be. I was fuming. The holiday was only £550. Admiral would take £150 as an admin fee leaving me with c. £400. So a minimal amount to them. I complained. They requested any other documentation that I may have. I replied that it's a black and white case. The documents they have (If they checked the dates on them) would clearly show a timeliness of booking holiday, receiving letters from Court and Solicitors and the holiday cancellation and final Court attendance date. Simple. Obvious...out of my control..Had to attend or lose my flat. I can see from other reviews that Admiral "cop out" on the simplest if cases. I'm sure my case was declined simply because it hasn't happened before and they have no business case for it. So the right thing to do was to pay out on my claim and THEN amend their claim conditions. I will keep on to them as I feel an injustice has been done. I noticed that most if the good reviews are when purchasing the pics and using their website. Wake up people. That will ALWAYS be the case as they want your money. A true reflection of this company is when something happens outside your control and you need to claim. This us the true test of a good company. I can honestly say Admiral have fallen way short here. You could say the policy wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Staysure travel insurance were more expensive so I didn't go with them. As the saying goes....you only get what you pay for. Anyway..after my court appearance I was told I would have to go back at around 28 days for another court hearing. Luckily the Courts are very busy at the moment so I have a reprieve till a date in September. Thet say things come in threes....As if the 2nd May I also lost my job and Admiral know this. So Admirals decision to decline is properly kicking me in the teeth when I'm down. Enough said. Reviewed on: 28th May 2025

Buyer beware.

1
Buyer beware. Tried to claim for missed flight due to power outage in Spain. Reject on basis it is an exclusion. They tried to pin rejection on the power failure but I claimed as could not get a taxi bus or train and missed flight. They say any conflict in terms is overridden by exclusion. I said the power outage was not my claim. I just couldn’t get to the airport. I am sure many thousands of people will have similar claim rejected that day. Very convenient for the insurers. If it had been due to a volcano or earthquake then all good. But an electrical event caused by weather is not covered Reviewed on: 27th May 2025

Very disappointed with my travel insurance experience.

1
Very disappointed with my travel insurance experience. I wasn’t able to go away due to my daughter coming down with chicken pox. I called straight away to let them know I wasn’t able to travel. I got doctors letters along with form they requested to be filled out, flight cancellations forms done. Proof of bank payments with emails to show I wasn’t issued refunds. Hotel cancellation letters with proof of no refund. Train tickets with proof it was not refundable It still wasn’t enough. Still waiting weeks on end for an outcome to my claim. They are taking excess fee for myself of £50 fine but also an extra £50 for my daughter who’s under two. It’s disgusting how I’ve been treated. It’s taken a toll on my mental wellbeing because I’m feeling exhausted and so upset, Which has caused me stress related headaches leading me to bed and having to make a doctors appointment. I wouldn’t recommend using admiral. They sell you the what you think sounds great with “we cover you for this and that” and are lovely as you like when it comes to taking your money and joining them. But when it come to needing to claim they treat you so poorly and they want to do anything they can to not pay out. Reviewed on: 12th May 2025

I tried to make a claim for my missed flight due to my wife having a stroke while on holiday. I have my own policy and tried to claim back my flight and I was told to claim on my wife’s insurance which she doesn’t have as she is a cancer sufferer and insurance is far to expensive so what is the point in me have my own personal insurance. I couldn’t just leave her as she was unable to walk or attend the toilet. So I have cancelled my policy as it’s not worth the paper it’s written on Reviewed on: 3rd May 2025
