Cancelled insurance for no good reason - please avoid!

1
Today Admiral cancelled my travel insurance four days before I'm due to leave the country, because I mentioned that as part of my ongoing care for a condition I have already disclosed to them, I will be undergoing a routine procedure. Despite the fact that this is not a diagnostic procedure and the condition itself is extremely low-risk, their underwriters apparently cannot cope with the idea that sometimes hospitals do things to people (who knew?). I had rung to check all my medical info was up-to-date, only to find that the system insisted the customer service agent delete all the data and start again. So I wasted an hour of my life giving them information they already had, at the end of which they said that they had to make some checks and would call me back to discuss my options. They would attempt to call me 3 times in the next few days and if I didn't pick up they would cancel my insurance - as if somehow being permanently available is possible or reasonable? - and when they did call back, they gave me no options at all. They just told me that they would no longer insure me. I dealt with the same customer service agent throughout who was extremely apologetic and did his best for me, but it was clear that the decisions are made behind the scenes by people who don't need to deal with the actual impact on people's lives. I was left uninsured a few days before taking my mum abroad for her 80th birthday. In case you think I'm underplaying the medical condition and procedure: after I got over the shock of having my insurance cancelled, I called AllClear to ask if they would insure me. Not only was my procedure not a problem, it was so negligible that they told me not to mention it, as it was part and parcel of the medical condition I disclosed. Unless you're happy for your insurance provider to withdraw cover for arbitrary reasons, I would avoid Admiral like the plague. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Very poor company. Avoid

1
I bought Amiral Travel insurance and upgraded the cover thinking it woulx give me peace of mind. After returning from Marakesh, I realised I had left my reading glasses and tinted long range pair in the hotel room. I emailed the hotel but got no response so I claimed off my insurance. Ive been asked for documents several times and still have no settlement. I had only had the glasses for 4 weeks but Admiral say they are going to make me an offer! How long does it take for such a small claim. I will not be going with them in the future Reviewed on: 8th December 2025

AVOID! Horrendous company to deal with.

1
This company is absolutely dreadful to deal with. I hold a Platinum travel insurance policy with Admiral and perhaps naively, thought this would provide an enhanced level of service - I was wrong. I submitted a legitimate claim for lost luggage 6 weeks ago and Admiral keep coming back asking for the same documentation over and over again, in a repetitious, unreasonable and ignorant manner. The claim is not ‘high value’. Clearly this is a tactic to purposefully delay paying out claims which, in my opinion, could be a breach of contract. It’s basically just a game to them. Admiral change the goalposts at every available opportunity, will mislead you through the claims process and make it incredibly difficult to process your claim. I have raised internal complaints which remain open but can see this ending up with the FCA as Admiral is simply incompetent. I intend to bring a claim against Admiral through the small claims courts, once internal processes have concluded. Please avoid this company: my experience has been terrible and having read other reviews, it appears other customers have had very similar experiences. If you do have an outstanding claim and Admiral is applying these underhanded, unethical and purposeful tactics, don’t give up and keep pursuing the claim! Reviewed on: 4th November 2025

Insensitive Claims Handling and Excuse after Excuse

1
Refused a partial refund on my policy when I asked to cancel due to their inadequate customer service. They advised that "cancelling your policy now will not result in a refund, as this is outside the cooling off period" even though I had 231 days of the policy left. My reason for the cancellation request was that they refused my small claim for delayed baggage (5 days in Krakow with the clothes we stood up in) due to lack of specifically itemised receipts even though I provided credit card receipts and itemised list of necessary purchases. I eventually received my belongings 10 days after returning to the UK. Reviewed on: 4th November 2025

Lost reading glasses

1
Absolutely terrible experience with [Admirla]. I took out travel insurance thinking I’d be protected if something got lost while on holiday — but that turned out to be completely false. I lost my reading glasses and reported it straight away to the local vendors on the beach, where there are constant reports of lost property. When I submitted my claim, they refused to cover it because I didn’t have a police report. No one ever mentioned this requirement when I bought the policy, and it was nowhere clearly stated in the documents. It’s ridiculous to expect someone on holiday to hunt down a police station over a pair of glasses. The company clearly hides behind fine print to avoid paying out legitimate claims. This whole experience felt like a scam — all talk about “peace of mind,” but when you actually need help, they disappear behind excuses and technicalities. I’ll never use [Admiral] again, and I’ll warn others to avoid them too. If you think you’re covered, think again — they’ll find a way to wriggle out of it. Reviewed on: 27th October 2025

Awful travel insurance provider.

1
Awful travel insurance provider. I made a claim within 1 week of my return from holiday when i realised i've lost my designer sunglasses and Airpods. i was told my claim was rejected because it wasn't made within 24 hours. Please tell me who's going to realise they've lost a non-essential item/belonging within 24 hours of a return holiday? Bare in mind, I've provided all proof and documentation they've asked for to substantiate my claim. No my claim has been thrown out, I'm left out of pocket on sunglasses and Airpods which was the whole reason why I paid for Gadget cover in the first place!! What's the point if paying for travel insurance if it doesn't do what it says on the tin? Waste of money. Do not bother using Admiral. Go somewhere else. Reviewed on: 9th October 2025

Avoid this insurance

Booked holiday for 13 august but had heart attack 2 weeks before departure date had to cancel as i had heart by pass operation when claimed for money back they looked for any excuse to reduce the amount even for medical that was not ongoing in the end they reduced the payment by 69% over a thousand pounds my advice is avoid this non understanding company go elswhere Reviewed on: 7th October 2025

Very quick and easy online travel insurance. Lots of cover options and add ons. Highly competitive pricing. I took out a 1 year multi-trip policy for travel in 'Europe' (I was going to Morocco initially). Happily, I haven't needed to use it so I can't tell you what making a claim is like.
