Building insurance claim

Not given correct information when I first made claim. Assessing company closed my claim without discussing my settlement. Settlement not reached by finding a contractor quote - just a scope of works and a lump sum which did not cover cost of repair. Didn’t tell me that I would have to find my own contractor for repair as claim under £1000. Couldn’t find this information in policy booklet.

Having just taken out a buildings and contents policy they have requested a valuation for my watch, the policy is written on a new for old basis which basically means they will replace all my processions (excluding clothes) as new, so I asked why do they require a valuation when I have the original receipt baring in mind they would replace it with a new one and they don’t, they just keep quoting their policy guidelines! How many people who provided an up to date receipt have they swindled out of money and told them to underinsure! Shame on you Nationwide and shame on you RSA for not spotting this!

Please do not buy from them. My mother made a claim, surveyor wasn’t even a roof surveyor and didn’t even go on roof and made up some nonsense. Claim refused. I called them asking for a roof surveyor which they so kindly refused (sarcasm). Customer service lady rude and rude and rude. My mother has been with them 14 years and never made a claim. Will never insure with them again. Disgusting and a total fraud company.

We had a slow water leak which was discovered on 2 September, when the original surveyor came out he lied to nationwide about our conversation and claimed I accepted full responsibility for the leak(which I didn’t) nationwide then appointed a new surveyor and work started , half of our downstairs has been ripped out and now we have been told the work to reinstate it won’t happen till January!! We have constantly had to chase them and it’s been very stressful . I would not recommend them .

After 4 quotes of more than double the offer still waiting with a damaged kitchen.

The service from Nationwide Home Insurance after an attempted break in was very poor. The door, which took nearly 8 weeks to be replaced, wasn't as good as the old door and was poorly made. Nationwide nor the company that fitted the door, VPS Evander, were prepared to do anything about it. Terrible customer service that only added to the stress of dealing with the mess left after the attempted break in.

I had a radiator pipe leak in January and am still living with bare broken up floors as Nationwide have been so slow and unhelpful. At this moment in time I am still awaiting a start date for repair works! Their policy is to ask you to get quotes for the works and when I did that they offered a cash settlement for less than half the value. I told them to get their contractors to do the work as I couldn't get anyone to do it for the price they offered me and am still waiting!! Dreadful service.

Great until you actually have to claim

I've had a horrendouse time claiming for items that were stolen from my house whether or not I had receipts for them. They've been so rude, slow and ultimately hardly want to pay anything. I'm cancelling this immediately afterwards

They offer a good level of cover at reasonable rates with discounts fro customers who already have cover with them. The only thing was that due to their change of underwriter this year my renewal quote had garden/outdoor coverage included but for extra fee. As I don't have an garden I had to phone to renew instead of doing it online in order for it to be removed.

Customer service is good on the phone.

I've been with the Nationwide for twenty plus years and found them very helpful and understanding in the early days with great on-line banking but things have changed...
Last week I visited my local branch with my husband to add him to my current account, which is a 30 minute drive away. The cashier took ages to get the correct form but supported us with completion and checked both the form and our ID before sending off to be actioned. Seven days later, I received my form back in the post advising there was an error and we needed to return to our branch! So I called the Retail Admin Team who finally worked out that the form wasn't dated. Then they advised that I couldn't date and return the form by post but really did need to drive for an hour, 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back to simply drop the form off.
After my father passed away, I thought it was best to add my husband to my account for future ease, perhaps this just isn't to be.
