Quote was twice the price of my last insurance even with 25% discount

I was looking to renew my building and contents insurance and obtained a quote from Nationwide as offering 25% reduction for member. I nearly fell off my seat when the quote popped up. I have been with nationwide home insurance for nearly 10 years and had never experience this worst service from them yet. Their service has gone really bad and will not recommend anyone taking their insurance. I have leakage from my ceiling and i was told they will send a plumber 2 days ago but i have not heard anything from them yet and when i ring them they make me wait nearly 2 hours and while waiting they just hang up my call. strange business practice at end of coverage

excerpt from our letter to a collection agency sent by Nationwide --- We regret to inform you that your company has paid money to Nationwide Insurance for worthless collections. The invoices involved were not authorized by us by any means (i.e., not by phone, not by letter, not by docusign, not by fax). Note that Nationwide Insurance did not bill our credit card, which they had on file when we started our insurance, for these charges. They would reasonably done so if the charges were legitimate. If they had billed our credit card we would have stopped such charges through the credit card company itself because we did not authorize any such charges and they could not prove we had authorized any such charges. Yes, we had insurance with Nationwide Insurance at one time. We paid IN ADVANCE for insurance coverage (automobile and renter’s insurance coverage), which is standard insurance company practice. Insurance companies do NOT engage in the practice of letting people buy coverage AFTER a claim. The coverage we had with Nationwide Insurance was for a specific duration only. The duration ended and we reinsured with another company. There was no permission given for charging in perpetuity. Nationwide, without authorization from us and without proof of authorization, say they continued coverage of our account for some number of months. We never authorized this. We have no proof that Nationwide did continue coverage because we never filed a claim after our insurance expired. We doubt that Nationwide would have honored a claim of any sort on a policy that was not paid for in advance. In fact, during our entire coverage with Nationwide we submitted no claims of any type, and they made enough profit from our policy to pay for claims of other insurees. We suspect they wanted to keep clients like us, so they claim they held our account open even without our authorization. If it is the practice of Nationwide to cover parties without payment of any kind before claims are submitted they would never have stopped our coverage since we have had no claims for auto or renter’s insurance. So the logic of this bills even more suspect. This is really very poor business practice by Nationwide Insurance and your firm should be warned not to pay for any similar accounts submitted by Nationwide. Reviewed on: 15th December 2022

Not worth the money

A while ago we were paying a large amount to the Nationwide to cover mortgage payments and extra. When we were made redundant with no pay at all we contacted the insurance department to make a claim. We explained that until we received some money we would be unable to pay next months insurance premium. Woman told us in that case your insurance is null and void and I am cancelling it. We were not in the right frame of mind to push it further so were left with nothing. Reviewed on: 24th November 2022

Absolute scam. Do not give them your hard earned money- worst customer service I have ever received. 24/7 emergency line called at 4:30pm on Friday and was told an electrician would be out within 60 minutes and the turned up 4pm the next day. The electrician they sent was so rude and did not want to be here, done absolutely nothing to help us and told us the job was too big for him and left. Reported back to NW that we had been changing light fittings and this caused the light to stop working. We haven’t changed our lights in 5 years and they have worked perfect since then. Then changed there story and said this was due to escape if water, when this was also completely untrue. Turned around and told us that we need ti get our own electrician out ti assess the cause of the fault as that’s not their job. I have a 5 year old daughter in the house who has been left with no lighting in the house and a home insurance company who couldn’t care less. So angry I have trusted them with the safety of my family and house all these years. Will be cancelling my possibly as soon as possible and going with someone who actually care about their customers. I feel so safe with Nationwide

I've been with Nationwide since I was a teenager and have used their home insurance for several years now. I also have out and about cover and bike insurance. I've made a claim for something that I doubt other insurance companies would have covered, but Nationwide were great and so supportive. Their products are reasonably priced and the customer service is lovely. You don't feel like you're about to go into battle when you call them, which makes the world of difference when it comes to insurance. Reviewed on: 13th September 2022

Absolutely shocking. Must Avoid at all costs!!!

This bank / building society has to be the worst ever for customer service. It’s standard rates are very unfriendly towards customers that have a buy to let Mortgage like myself. You would think they can do better in terms of the current financial climate. But no, this company care only about their money and nothing else, absolute greed and nothing else. Their customer service is totally shocking, I’d wished I’d never had a Mortgage with this bank, and wish to leave ASAP and to wash my hands clean of this company! With my situation they just do not care,(which is not surprising being the worst company in the UK), and do NOT offer full options, in which you would think they would do so in my situation. I hate this company, I wished I’d never had anything to do with this company, and one day I will not, and will never for the rest of my life!! I have serious concerns with this disgusting and useless company and am extremely dissatisfied. About four of my last calls have expressed signs of extreme and I mean extreme dissatisfaction and this has not been picked up!!! Totally shocking company, I hate this company, can’t wait to fully be disconnected from this company!!!! Reviewed on: 5th August 2022
