Poor customer service and incompetent understanding of their policy

1
I have had a Nationwide account for many years and kept it after moving back to Canada. My daughter decided to go to Bristol and so I wrote to the Nationwide to ask if she could be added to the account. I was told to fill in the necessary forms and it would work. We had to take my husband off the account. I double checked before I left and again told it was fine. Once in Bristol, we set up the account and I was told it was fine and my daughter had access. I left the country and my daughter went back to the bank and was told she not only had no access but that they had sent documents to our old address in Manchester. They had our address in Toronto for over 15 years. They were rude to her and then when I tried to contact them I couldn't get through the security because they asked how I set up the initial account. I had no recollection at all. Then I received a very terse letter two weeks later saying they couldn't add someone to an account when they lived overseas. I have written back and they said they will "investigate" and they are sorry. But this has cost us a fortune in fees for using the canadian account; the travel to Bristol; time wasted making sure we had all the documents when not one but three people told us we could do this. We are left with no access to the account unless I go over again. It is insane. My daughter now has an appointment with Barclays and we will transfer the accounts there and forget Nationwide. I've held an account of one sort or another with Nationwide since I was a child. I feel their customer service goes above and beyond that offered by other banks and as a result can not forsee a time when I won't hold an account with them. Reviewed on: 5th February 2019

Called me to tell me I had lost my bank card

I dropped my debit card on the way to work one morning & nationwide phoned me within 2hours to check if I was using it. Someone had been using my contactless card several times & I never even knew I had lost it until nationwide phoned me. Extremely happy with their service!! Reviewed on: 4th February 2019

Happy, but account benefits have reduced

Selected Nationwide 8 years ago and generally very happy. Only disappointments are that the debit card account has slowly and seruptitiously cut its benefits. It used to offer free overseas withdrawals and transactions, now these cost and are quite uncompetitive. Also, lack of local branch and inability to transact through local post offices let the bank down. Reviewed on: 21st January 2019

Quick and easy to get
