Premium Bonds are worth holding, I think.... Returns on Premium Bonds are generally average, with the slim chance of above average winnings each month. Winnings are not taxable which is a bonus. Reviewed on: 12th June 2025

40k in premium bonds for 5 months and only won £175. 40k in premium bonds for 5 months and only won £175. 3 months won nothing. Much better off in shares or high interest savings account. Reviewed on: 6th March 2025

Review of the NS&I, Premium Bond:

Good investment

Premium bonds are a good long-term investment. It's easy to set up or invest more money, the app works well and I always feel encouraged to invest more in the future. Reviewed on: 8th February 2023

Frustrating beyond belief

1
Trying to register existing accounts online for children who have now turned 18. Cant be done online as not enough 'credit information' 1 hour to get through to the call centre. They cant do it either and have to send forms out through the post. 6 weeks later received a temporary password - guess what - it doesn't work Guess that's another 1 hour waiting to get through on the phone. Morale of this story - do not try and digitally transform your business when you have neither the technical foundations or support team to support this ambition! Reviewed on: 21st December 2020

Fraudsters! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY

1
Do NOT give them your money! I've been communicating for three months with CEO Ian Ackerley's Executive Office. I have still not been able to arrange a refund. When I made my original investment with them, time I took out the maximum amount permitted. Big mistake! They just wont give it back! Reviewed on: 16th December 2020

Appalling and incompetent company

1
How I wish I’d read the reviews before opening an account The most incompetent and appalling service I’ve ever received in over 50 years of saving If you want to be severely stressed then by all means open an account!!! Reviewed on: 27th October 2020

Logged on with the online number and password. 17. Told to ring 08085007007. It's October and I still do not have an online account. I can see my premium bonds prizes using my holder number on website. Apparently we will not get cheques in the post next year. How can they put prize money into my bank account next year? Crazy system. Reviewed on: 24th October 2020

Few wins

1
My Wife and myself have £88,000 invested in Premium Bonds and usually get a few £25 wins a month if lucky, then nothing for months, In the last 4 years have only had one large win of £500. Makes you wonder if it's worth it or even fixed by location! Reviewed on: 2nd October 2020

Tempted to say that this is a scam, not worth it

1
Bought NSI bonds in 1965. No wins and bonds remain nominal value. Each Bond is valued @ £1.00 therefore if I had £1 in 1965 it would be valued at £16.00 today (2020) I would be better off just keeping that pound in my pocket. NSI Bonds are not good financial instrument and should not be used as such. I think this is a scam as, there is a very high chance you will never see a return and end up with less value than when you started. As proven with my experience. Do not buy NSI bonds, stand more chance in winning a small amount on the lottery. Reviewed on: 2nd September 2020
