Review of the RAC, Car insurance:

Complete waste of money and massive increased stress

So my tyre burst on Sunday evening. Called RAC at 18:50. Assistant found my location, took details. Told me it would be at least an hour and a half. Text message cane through saying 180 minutes. It was pouring with rain so I pulled car well off road and sat in the passenger seat. At 21:55, text came through saying “ We're sending one of our drivers to rescue you. We'll be in touch shortly with the details.”. Then another text at 11pm “ Sorry if you're still waiting. It's very busy but one of our drivers will be with you as soon as possible.” That was the last text until Wednesday afternoon “ Just to confirm, we're now working to get a local RAC patrol to you”. A friend collected me and to me home before midnight. I was freezing and very scared sitting by myself on the side of the road. On calling and updating RAC, the person said they MAY be able to send someone earliest 1:30 Monday morning. I was given a ref number. After many calls holding for more than 30 minutes a time. I had a voicemail come through sometime during early hours of the morning say she hoped I was somewhere warm, dry and safe. I finally got hold of a gentleman at RAC on the Monday morning. He said they were still working on getting me rescued. I was really upset on the phone and he did apologise. In the meantime, I called a tyre man who came out on Monday and changed the tyre. It took 10 min and has cost my money that I really did not have. I am extremely grateful to R&R Tyres for their help. Late yesterday I had a call from the RAC breakdown man who informed me he was on his way to my location to rescue me! There will be a massive complaint going in to RAC and Hastings Direct. Delay in refund for cancelled Policy

I made a mistake on the details of the 2nd driver and cancelled the policy on 11 September. The policy was not due to start till 30 September. The funds left my bank on 11 September. I needed the funds, £486.84, returned well before so that I could insure elsewhere. Now told that they will be returned 8 days after policy start date. This means that I will be without use of a car till 8 October. I an an OAP and am dismayed that a well know organisation should treat people this way. I will be cancelling my RAC membership which I have had for many years. Reviewed on: 28th September 2023

Rac/markerstudy

I have cancelled my rac car insurance because of bunch of clowns called markerstudy I haven't had an accident/claim in over 5o years but had to report a car park incident this year which caused scuffed bumpers only but no claim made but these people have put a marker on my name meaning that any insurance Co taking me on believe I have had an accident and put the cost up significantly will never use again and will make sure no family or friends do either Reviewed on: 29th August 2023

The cheapest but still wildly expensive

The cheapest deal but still outrageously expensive. Despite having another year of no claims under my belt when I came to renew my insurance this year the only quotes I could find were all at least £100 more thank last year. Reviewed on: 25th August 2023

Awful

Put my renewal premium up hugely despite not making a claim, sent me a really offhand email telling me that despite paying by Direct Debit monthly for years and years I would now have to pay the whole amount in one go (nearly £1600). Talk about not reading the room and helping their clients in a difficult economic environment. Happy news is I got insurance for £900 elsewhere with the facility to pay monthly, so the RAC were not only rude and dismissive they were also just plain greedy. Not ever using them for anything again as they couldn't care less about customer loyalty. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2023

RAC and Underwriters Makerstudy problems

These companies are frauds, they're both telling me different things and have been for weeks until I started asking for information in writing form. Just be aware they're problematic and even though they're contracted with each other they don't communicate with each other. Reviewed on: 18th July 2023

Efficient

Avoid at all costs

Just cancelled policy after 3 months cover as they tried to rip us off for 2 x £25.00 admin fees to amend the policy. The original premium was £246. and we’re getting a refund of £48. Their cancellation fee is £56 (another rip-0ff?) which means we’ve paid a premium of £142 for 3 months cover (when a full year was only £246). AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
