Review of the RAC, Car insurance:

Complete waste of money and massive increased stress

So my tyre burst on Sunday evening. Called RAC at 18:50. Assistant found my location, took details. Told me it would be at least an hour and a half. Text message cane through saying 180 minutes. It was pouring with rain so I pulled car well off road and sat in the passenger seat. At 21:55, text came through saying “ We're sending one of our drivers to rescue you. We'll be in touch shortly with the details.”. Then another text at 11pm “ Sorry if you're still waiting. It's very busy but one of our drivers will be with you as soon as possible.” That was the last text until Wednesday afternoon “ Just to confirm, we're now working to get a local RAC patrol to you”. A friend collected me and to me home before midnight. I was freezing and very scared sitting by myself on the side of the road. On calling and updating RAC, the person said they MAY be able to send someone earliest 1:30 Monday morning. I was given a ref number. After many calls holding for more than 30 minutes a time. I had a voicemail come through sometime during early hours of the morning say she hoped I was somewhere warm, dry and safe. I finally got hold of a gentleman at RAC on the Monday morning. He said they were still working on getting me rescued. I was really upset on the phone and he did apologise. In the meantime, I called a tyre man who came out on Monday and changed the tyre. It took 10 min and has cost my money that I really did not have. I am extremely grateful to R&R Tyres for their help. Late yesterday I had a call from the RAC breakdown man who informed me he was on his way to my location to rescue me! There will be a massive complaint going in to RAC and Hastings Direct. Avoid like the plague

Rubbish

If I could give minus stars I would Despicable, service, rip-off, money, grabbing vultures stay well away do not use RAC Insurance For anything. I had a policy and then I changed my car. to a VW transporter van, no commercial van every day family vehicle type van with six seats. In the past when I have changed vehicles midway through a policy to be no problem and I’ve been able to do it, I may have been charged a very small admin fee but I could do it. Oh no, no no no not with these rip-off vultures they gave me no choice but to cancel my policy, and then charge me an obscene amount for a cancellation fee As they claimed, they don’t insure the type of vehicle that I wanted to I told them it’s not a commercial van it’s a family vehicle doesn’t matter they were rude on the phone not very helpful. Vile organisation

Don't insure with these. Double your fee after 12 months and hope you don't notice the auto renewal price. Also you would be very lucky to see a penny in a claim. Rude customer service also. And NEVER use the breakdown recovery. They don't exist if you have anything worse than a flat battery. Even then you can be abandoned for 12 hours or more Reviewed on: 19th October 2023

Really bad!

Inefficient & ineffective

Probably the most inefficient & ineffective insurance company I have ever had the misfortune of giving my money. Takes 6 months to replace glass & disputes the complaint about the time taken & as you have had to chase them, they consider it appropriate communication. Then with another claim now 3 months in, caused by a third party where CCTV footage, clearly showing the vehicle registration of the car that hit my stationary car overnight have done NOTHING at all because the third parties insurance company hasn't picked up the phone. I wish I had used the insurance company of the party that damaged my car...... At least they are trying to protect the no claims bonus of a drugged up driver, clearly rolling a joint & smoking it on camera. Reviewed on: 5th October 2023

Shocking

Shocking. RAC appoint solicitors for a non fault accident. 3rd party admits liability. RAC’s solicitors fail to settle anything then sue me, their client, for their costs!! Court case. LOSE. Appeal LOSE. Hugely out of pocket after five days in court for an accident that wasn’t my fault, and admitted by 3rd party. Delay in refund for cancelled Policy

I made a mistake on the details of the 2nd driver and cancelled the policy on 11 September. The policy was not due to start till 30 September. The funds left my bank on 11 September. I needed the funds, £486.84, returned well before so that I could insure elsewhere. Now told that they will be returned 8 days after policy start date. This means that I will be without use of a car till 8 October. I an an OAP and am dismayed that a well know organisation should treat people this way. I will be cancelling my RAC membership which I have had for many years. Reviewed on: 28th September 2023
