Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Home Insurance:

Good Value

5
Much cheaper than any of the others and they throw in a £20 Sainsburys voucher Reviewed on: 21st September 2016

Difficult to cancel and hidden costs

1
It’s very hard to cancel your policy you can’t do it on the app (feels like this is on purpose to make you put it off). And when you do get a hold of them on the phone they’ll ask your credit card details on the phone to charge you around £110 for cancellation etc madeup fees. Wouldn’t recommend them as they seem sneaky Reviewed on: 8th September 2021

VERY difficult to cancel policy

1
I have never been more frustrated in my life and having read Mr Fishers review I had exactly the same problem as him, but mine was for my car insurance, there is no option to not renew your policy, it tells you that you have to phone them, so you ring them and are left on the phone waiting for at least 1 hour, I will never go with this company again and I too will be complaining to the financial ombudsman. My advice would be to go elsewhere for your insurance. Reviewed on: 16th August 2021

Can't cancel auto-renewal

1
I got an email saying that my policy would auto-renew in 3 weeks time. I don't want to renew as I got a better policy with British Gas. I logged onto my account and there is no way to cancel the auto-renewal except by calling them. This is an increasing popular scam by all insurance companies who hope that you just won't bother shopping around and by making the cancellation process very difficult they hope that you won't bother. I will be complaining to the Financial Ombudsman about this shady practice. Reviewed on: 8th August 2021

Do not purchase this insurance

1
Do not purchase home insurance with Sainsbury’s I rarely write reviews but my experience with Sainsbury’s home insurance has been awful. Despite being with them for several years, I have not claimed but over the past year I have needed to claim twice - an outside water leak and electrical problems. Useless and dishonest phone and text assurances from contractors about the progress of the claim. Would not cover the water costs but it took 2 and a half months of constant chasing 2 contractors to establish this. On the second occasion, they failed to recognise that my insurance covered emergencies- made me pay £114 upfront for an emergency electrician who never arrived. Will not be renewing my claim next year even if it costs me more elsewhere and would strongly advise others to avoid Sainsbury’s home insurance. Reviewed on: 2nd August 2021

Totally incompetent

1
I've had Home contents insurance with Sainsbury's for over 12 months. I called them on 18th July 2019 to update a high value item - Id sold my Canon camera and bought a new Sony one. Its now been over 3 weeks and they have advised the change is 'still with their underwriters' - Legal & General. This is despite my calling them every couple of days to chase and opening an official complaint with them last week. They cannot even provide any reason for the delay - Sainsbury's just pass the blame to underwriters but refuse to give me a contact or reference for L&G. Meanwhile my camera remains locked up at home as uninsured! Reviewed on: 12th August 2019

Super cheap

Fantastically cheap service, great customer service and an effortless switch. Often offer £100 vouchers when changing tarrifs with them too. Reviewed on: 21st July 2019

Quick and easy service

We recently took out home insurance with Sainsbury’s bank. The process was very quick and easy. They laid out all of the terms and conditions clearly and were able to compare different options very easily. All done on my phone and contract sent via email. I love that you can make changes through an online account and don’t have to wait ages on the phone to speak to someone Reviewed on: 4th July 2019

Catch-22 on Home Insurance renewal

1
Took out a Home Insurance Policy with Sainsbury's Bank a couple of years ago, in loyalty to the well run local supermarket , and the premium for the cover was reasonable. I renewed automatically last year, but this year the premium had gone up quite a bit. I tried to log on to review the policy, but system said my details were invalid. Tried password reminder, but it claimed log in name was wrong. Tried re-registering, but system said to log on with existing details. Tried phoning help but got transferred from button push to button push and no human being answering after 11 minutes. Asked myself do I want this kind of home insurance? - then changed to Direct Line for same cover at about 60% of the premium, and 95% less hassle. Reviewed on: 5th February 2019

Premium Increase

2
Bought the policy a year ago and did not claim at all (or change policy or address or anything), HOWEVER the price of the policy increased by >20%!!! Reviewed on: 29th January 2019
