Waited over 3 weeks for a £60 claim

Terrible insurance, made the claim, and they kept asking more and more questions, it took over 3 weeks and numerous over the top questions before they paid £60 for my dogs treatment. If this is what they are like for £60 I dread to think what they would be like for a larger claim. Funny they don't ask so many questions when they are taking my money from me/ I have cancelled my policy and will be going elsewhere. Reviewed on: 6th July 2023

They were good, but something has changed and I wouldn't recommend

I first took out the Sainsburys Pet insurance as I had heard good things about their claim department and their online portal as well as having a Nectar Card which helps! First year was good, although I was a bit disappointed about a procedure that the vet decided to take being excluded from the claim even though I was told it was necessary prior to an operation. Claim was processed quickly and easily. On renewal however, I was stunned with the increase (expected I suppose due to a prior claim) but more so that this was a Lifetime policy and my understanding of this type of policy, given the additional cost, is that any condition that occurs during the policy will be covered for the lifetime of the pet. Not so with Sainsburys, so I cancelled and moved to Healthy Pets who have been excellent in the past but came in more expensive. But, you get what you pay for. Reviewed on: 29th March 2023

Solid pet insurance with improving tech

Overall the price is fair for our French bulldog who has a lot of skin/allergy conditions. Pays out on the conditions we've claimed for without any issues. If there have been delays with the claim then usually it's Sainsburys not getting a response from the vet. I'll admit, when I first started with them over a year and a half ago, their systems were pretty awful - keeping track of claims, making new claims etc was all super painful and laborious. They have improved their systems a lot in this time though - making new claims, keeping track of previous claims, communication on the status of outstanding claims etc is all way easier, and it's improved the service immensely. To the product team at Sainsburys - keep it up! You're moving in the right direction! Reviewed on: 29th November 2021

The WORST pet insurance!

The WORST pet insurance! We had a kitten insured with this so-called insurance. A KITTEN! And when a kitten got sick the insurance didn’t want to pay any vet bills – NONE! They said that it’s a pre-existing condition! A KITTEN! Our lovely vets tried for months to contact this Sainsbury’s Pet insurance and no joy. Eventually, we had a £900 bill from the vets to pay. Of course, we cancelled this useless insurance immediately! All they are interested in is taking your money. We made an official complaint but no one cared. Reviewed on: 20th August 2021

Appalling service

Absolutely dreadful. They don't fulfil any of the terms of the contract. Don't confirm receipt of claims, do their utmost to avoid paying out, when you chase them up you get a different story every time you ring. Very quick to exclude all conditions. Take a long time to give a decision. Rarely put anything in writing, Load premiums a lot as your pet gets older. Cancelled my policy after 11 years paying. Reviewed on: 13th June 2021
