was good but now not worth it

I opened this account back in March 2014 when it was paying 3% interest. The bank base rate then was 0.5% It is now 0.75% but Santander are cutting their rate in May 2020 to 1% They might review that when there are many account closures! Reviewed on: 8th February 2020

Worst Customer Service Ever!!!

Jump through various recorded messages then wait in excess of 20 minutes every time to speak with customer service who couldn't resolve my problem. Told to go into Branch. But you cannot ring any branch to make an appointment. Completely useless Bank. Reviewed on: 4th June 2024

Easy to use and interest free

123 current account provides an interest free overdraft which is very useful for when bills or payments come out that may otherwise be difficult to afford. The fact the overdraft is interest free makes it easier to pay off than other options and I have had no issues related to the operation/maintenance of this account nor any interactions with customer service. Beware of Fees & Hard Credit Checks

1. After opening the account and receiving initial emails, I discovered a surprise £3 monthly fee for the Santander Edge current account. While the information might exist somewhere, it wasn't clear during the application process. 2. Santander performed a hard credit check on my credit history when opening the account, negatively impacting my score. I wasn't informed about this check beforehand. 3. When I visited a branch to close the account, I was directed to call customer service, despite not being registered for telephone banking. While the representative assured me they could close the account without registration, this wasn't the case. I had to wait another week for a letter with a password to finally register for phone banking and complete the closure. Reviewed on: 20th April 2024

Definitely not recommended

Internal communications are virtually non existent. Staff are, in the main, very poorly trained in their field of 'expertise' and incompetent. Automated systems are not updated to reflect the customer's current situation. Account closure without providing a reason. High foreign exchange fees. Long wait times to speak to customer service. That said, the Facebook department are very helpful. Reviewed on: 14th April 2024
