Lifesaver

Peace of Mind

In 2001 my whole world fell apart , my wife of nearly forty years left me. The family home had to be put on the market. We were divorced and the house sold for a fraction of its worth. In the divorce settlement my wife was given half my pension. She came from a wealthy family and her mother paid for her another property. I could not afford another house of my own! I had to rent property. which each month cost me the half of my company pension I had remaining. The proceeds from the house sale didn’t last long and in 2013 I was deep in debt. I had to sell my car and buy a 17 year old run around. I couldn’t afford to pay my creditors and I was on the verge of committing suicide. Someone told me about Step Change Debt Charity and although It will take me , if I live that long. Another twenty plus years to pay off my debts. Step Change sorted me out from day one. At least I eat correctly, I pay my rent, my utilities and I have a life insurance. All this was sorted out by Step Change. The people there are brilliant and I cannot speak too highly of them. They have given me some of my self respect back and my peace of mind is returning. I would recommend this amazing service to anyone in debt and doesn’t know which way to turn. You have to be prepared to be completely transparent about your financial situation and the challenges presented..Staff help you to think outside the box and include allowances for the obvious and the not so obvious to help make the repayments fair and affordable.. Wish I had done it years ago

I’ve been in persistent debt for a few years: juggling minimum payments and then using credit to get by every month. The stress and worry was awful, along with my fair share of shame that id gotten into this position. Step Change have made such a difference; from being so understanding and non-judgmental to helping me come up with a manageable budget. Yes, it may take me several years to pay back but I feel so much more in control now and the weight that fell off my shoulders when the agreement was put in place was huge.
