300% renewals quote

I recently had my insurance premium increased from £38 per month to £108 per month. This is without any claims for over 7 years, I have logged a complaint with the company but they have come back to me with the response below · The overall UK insurance market has seen a rise in the number of claims, and it costs a lot more to resolve them, due to materials, parts and labour being more expensive.; · Some insurers have left the UK home insurance market meaning there is higher than usual demand. These and other factors are having an impact on insurance prices even if you haven’t personally made a claim. I have cancelled my insurance and have found a quote for less than £38 and with better cover. Great customer service Swinton!!!!! Reviewed on: 15th February 2025

I've felt protected in my flat contents insurance with them. When a bad sewage backflow leak happened due to another downstairs flat tenant stuffing their loo with flushed away baby wipes I didn't manage to claim. As the overall damage cost was actually just under the excess amount. I've felt generally otherwise well protected in my flat contents insurance. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Extortionate renewal charge

My elderly mums home and contents insurance jumped this year to £50 per month! What a rip off. We have cancelled the policy and now pay £12.10 per month. She's never made any claim either. Reviewed on: 30th December 2023

Charged for a claim that wasn't paid

I'm looking to cancel my policy with Swinton. I would expect the premium to not be paid for the remaining period of the policy. Instead, Swintons are charging me nearly £300. The reason is an unsuccessful claim that we made a couple of months prior. My son's bike was stolen, and I wasn't sure if it was covered by our policy. When I spoke to the team to ask, they suggested that I claim as that would be the only way to find out for sure. Which I did. It turned out not to be covered. Shame, but I accept that - if it's not in the policy, then it shouldn't be paid. But now I come to cancel the policy, and instead of having the remaining premium cancelled, Swinton are asking me to pay £287 for the claim that wasn't covered. Is that not beyond ridiculous? Inept

I have a combined buildings and contents policy with Swinton, I massively regret going for the cheapest option. Swinton don't actually seem to do anything, if you call them, you actually are calling a company called marker study, every part of the policy is farmed out to a different company, meaning it is close to impossible to actually get anyone to take responsibility, they all try to blame the other companies. They have been a nightmare to deal with, being passed from company to company with no accountability. Reviewed on: 30th August 2023

The company they use for payments charges 25.00 if you miss a payment Reviewed on: 24th August 2023

Terrible, don't touch

We had water damage to our roof after a period of heavy rain. This company sent an awful loss assessor/ contractor (not building surveyor as we were told was coming) spent 10 minutes at the house to decide we were not covered as it wasn't a storm as there were no high winds. On the inspection summary form there was no info for cause of damage. He was rude and dismissive we will be getting our own independent survey from a professional. Reviewed on: 16th August 2023

Treated like a criminal

1
I bought my policy back in march 2019 via compare the market. I have never defaulted on my payments and have received the renewal email each year stating that if you are happy to proceed you need to do nothing and payments will carry on. They also asked if my situation had changed, which it hadn’t from when I started the policy. On Friday 25th November I was broken into and my home ransacked, several personal things were taken along with my sons car! I contacted Swinton and started my claim. I was contacted by them asking me about a CCJ I had, yes I replied I do have one back in 2019 but I was never asked about wether I had one and I do not understand what difference this makes to my claim? After almost 6 weeks of several phone calls asking me the same questions and being treated like I was the criminal not the victim I have received and email today telling me the policy has been cancelled and I need to pay the balance to them?? And also the claim was rejected due to me having a CCJ!! The CCJ that I was never asked about…. I will not be paid for the stolen items and I now do not have insurance on my home either, they emailed me to let me know which I find very unprofessional. When dealing with a break in the last thing you need to add to the stress and worry is your insurance company letting you down. I hope no one has to deal with what I have gone through/going through. Stay away from this insurance broker especially when using compare the market etc as they do not ask the questions they need answering so therefore selling false policies. They were very happy to take my monthly payments but sadly when needed to pay out everything changed. Reviewed on: 2nd January 2023
