Online Purchase Priblem

I bought home insurance from Swinton online but at the payment stage it said they could not continue and to finish my purchase I had to phone them. This was annoying ,especially with no explanation.I phoned and the man was very friendly, helpful and completed my payment but it all took time and I had to explain what had happened and go through what I had already done online.Overall, the price and customer service were good but the purchase process was annoying. I've renewed insurance with them for house contents a number of times. And it has been a fairly easy process overall. Reviewed on: 29th July 2026

Cost to change one insurance detail £30

1
I informed Safeguard that I have now got a new 24/7 maintained and monitored home alarm system. I was then informed that to make this change on the policy it would cost £30. This is inspite of the fact that this alarm would save Safeguard money if there was an alarm incident. After informing them that I am also furious about the fact that any reduction could only take place at renewal. Only after registering a complaint did they back down and not charge the £30. I agreed to cancel the complaint if the 330 was not applied. I then received a letter from Swinton insurance confirming the above. RIP OFF BRITAIN AGAIN. Reviewed on: 5th September 2025

100% rise in my premium

1
No claim made in the last several years but Swinton raised my premium quote to £518.98 from last year’s figure of £234.26. This is an uplift of more than 100%. Their virtual assistant reduced it by £36.72. This adjustment is still a plus 100% hike. They have lost me as a customer and I see that they are losing many people like me who will not be used to boost their income. Reviewed on: 13th March 2025

300% renewals quote

1
I recently had my insurance premium increased from £38 per month to £108 per month. This is without any claims for over 7 years, I have logged a complaint with the company but they have come back to me with the response below · The overall UK insurance market has seen a rise in the number of claims, and it costs a lot more to resolve them, due to materials, parts and labour being more expensive.; · Some insurers have left the UK home insurance market meaning there is higher than usual demand. These and other factors are having an impact on insurance prices even if you haven’t personally made a claim. I have cancelled my insurance and have found a quote for less than £38 and with better cover. Great customer service Swinton!!!!! Reviewed on: 15th February 2025

I've felt protected in my flat contents insurance with them. When a bad sewage backflow leak happened due to another downstairs flat tenant stuffing their loo with flushed away baby wipes I didn't manage to claim. As the overall damage cost was actually just under the excess amount. I've felt generally otherwise well protected in my flat contents insurance. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Extortionate renewal charge

1
My elderly mums home and contents insurance jumped this year to £50 per month! What a rip off. We have cancelled the policy and now pay £12.10 per month. She's never made any claim either. Reviewed on: 30th December 2023

Charged for a claim that wasn't paid

1
I'm looking to cancel my policy with Swinton. I would expect the premium to not be paid for the remaining period of the policy. Instead, Swintons are charging me nearly £300. The reason is an unsuccessful claim that we made a couple of months prior. My son's bike was stolen, and I wasn't sure if it was covered by our policy. When I spoke to the team to ask, they suggested that I claim as that would be the only way to find out for sure. Which I did. It turned out not to be covered. Shame, but I accept that - if it's not in the policy, then it shouldn't be paid. But now I come to cancel the policy, and instead of having the remaining premium cancelled, Swinton are asking me to pay £287 for the claim that wasn't covered. Is that not beyond ridiculous? Inept

2
I have a combined buildings and contents policy with Swinton, I massively regret going for the cheapest option. Swinton don't actually seem to do anything, if you call them, you actually are calling a company called marker study, every part of the policy is farmed out to a different company, meaning it is close to impossible to actually get anyone to take responsibility, they all try to blame the other companies. They have been a nightmare to deal with, being passed from company to company with no accountability. Reviewed on: 30th August 2023
