Review of the Are You Owed Money, Debt Collection:

A Scam. That's Not What was Promised

1
Case No: AY-5160-0624 In November 2022 AYOM Contacted me, through their facilitator Mr * ******, to discuss my case for a debt collection. We agreed a date to call to discuss. In the meantime, AYOM asked me to send all the necessary documents for them to review prior to the next phone call. One of the documents included a a confirmation that my debtor had made me a verbal unacceptable offer of £5,000 to settle the case. During the appointed 10-minute telephone call with Mr *******, I was told that AYOM will have an 85% chance of recovering the debt including the reduced AYOM fee of £1500 (Incl VAT) which AYOM would charge me. Mr ***** assured me that my case was solid. I sent AYOM all relevant documents prior to signing the contract to ensure that all is kosher, and asked AYOM to let me know if there is anything else they require. In late December the contract was signed and the agreed fee of £1500 was paid. Days and weeks passed with little progress. In mid February 2023, AYOM emailed me requesting written proof of the client's offer to settle. I reminded them of the letter (copied to AYOM in November) which I had sent to the client confirming my rejection of his verbal offer of £5,000. AYOM did not respond to that. AYOM claimed I did not inform Mr ******* (of the verbal offer) during our 10-minute phone call. I disputed that and demanded a transcript of that phone call. On 15 March, AYOM emailed me only two lines of that 10 Minute phone call which did not proof their allegation. Back and forth between AYOM and myself to no avail and without AYOM responding to my request to prove their allegations. I requested, as within my legal rights, copies of whatever correspondence or telephone contacts AYOM had with my Debtor/Client to show what efforts has AYOM made towards resolving my case. Nothing. I wrote AYOM demanding the refund of the £1500 fee paid. But they refused. They closed my case. All attempts to contact AYOM by email remained unanswered or repeating the same allegation without proof. All telephone attempts to contact Customer Services, the Legal section or Mr *******, were diverted to "Collection" who advised me that they will pass my query by email to the relevant section and urged me to wait. The last automated reply from AYOM was dated 9.6.2023 which said: "The team will respond to all client enquiries / updates as soon as possible. We are experiencing high volumes of enquiries, so please allow up-to 2 working weeks for a response. If your enquiry is urgent, please call 0333 355 7114 to speak to one of the Customer Services Team". Nothing since.. I am now going legal unless they pay up in 14 days. Reviewed on: 24th July 2023
Reply from Are You Owed Money Good afternoon Antoine. All cases we accept are based on the information provided by our clients. The details given to us were what made us believe we could have success working this case. It transpired what information was given to us at the outset was not sufficient to enable us to continue the case on the initial premise. We asked for additional evidence which would support any claim you wish to make but you were unable to provide this. We dispute your claim that the case was a “total failure”. We worked the case fully with what information we were given and updated you when we required additional information. Regards, the AYOM team. Response date: 25th July 2023

Being scammed?

1
Two years ago I had a problem with a tenant not paying her rent. Long story short she ended up owing me around £1250. In trying to find a solution I came across Are You Owed Money and after a very helpful phone call signed up with the promise that if they recovered my money they'd also tag on the fee to the debtor so I wouldn't be out of pocket there either. Fast forward some months and they eventually got the debtor to pay up with a payment scheme. And that's where my problems started. I thought - mistakenly - that I'd simply get paid when they did. However they needed to go beyond a claw back period to ensure AYOM didn't pay me only for the debtor to claim it back. Fair enough. But then because the debtor was paying by card that could be around 180 days. Okayyyy. So I waited patiently for the instalments to start coming in. And I waited. And waited. Despite many phone calls and emails around 7 months from the first instalment I have received £0. Whilst AYOM confirmed they'd received £2k (they obviously bump the amount up significantly to cover their costs) they have yet to remit a penny. I've got no indication when or even if they will ever pay me my own money back. It's an ingenious scam it appears. You provide the debtor, you pay them to recoup the money, they get it back and keep it. Please don't fall for it. Reviewed on: 9th January 2025

Taking legal action against them

1
This is not a debt collection company. They are out and out thieves. They collect the money you are owed, then keep it. They have been sitting on my money since July. They are probably bankrupt. I'm taking legal action against them. Reviewed on: 10th December 2024

Waste of time.

Great sales pitch, terrible service.

1
Great sales pitch, terrible service. Lots of automated emails and messages sent but no action like phone calls, visiting the debtor, or enforcement taken. Very much felt like a 'take your money and run' operation. And no updates, not even when requested via their client portal. Extremely disappointing and we will never use them again. But it was an expensive lesson. Reviewed on: 14th November 2024

DO NOT USE - Small claims court against this company

1
AYOM collected all monies owed to me from the debtor but refuses to pay me out. They collected in full in January 2024 and I'm still waiting to be paid anything. They've even gone as far as GDPR removing the debtors information from the portal and considering my case complete... How is this possible if I haven't received a penny? We are in the process of filing small claims court against this company and have reported to Action Fraud. Reviewed on: 15th October 2024
Reply from Are You Owed Money We recently received a review from you on Google under the name James King. We are unable to find a client on our system of the name James King. We did also ask on Google for you to get in touch so we could verify you as a user and if so, assist but we have yet to receive any correspondence to the email account requested. As per our previous response on Google: Hi James. We have an article here on why we incorporate a holding period once retrieving any money from your debtor (https://www.areyouowedmoney.co.uk/ayom-blog/post/chargebacks-holding-period.php). Whenever we receive payment, to avoid charge backs from the debtor's bank we wait until it is impossible for them to claw the money back. This timespan varies depending on the method of payment and isn't the same timescale for every payment type. Please could you email your client ID, contact email and telephone number to [email protected] for us to investigate the matter and look to resolve any problems. Regards, the AYOM team.
