About this product

Aviva health insurance helps pay for private medical care for short-term injuries or illnesses.

You'll have access to a range of private hospitals and facilities that include Circle, Nuffield, Spire and NHS private units. Aviva won't increase premiums at first renewal if you haven't made a claim that's reduced your no claim discount level.

Aviva health insurance reviews help you find out what it’s really like to be a customer. If you’ve used Aviva before, you can also leave a review and share your experience.

Old school Delay, Deny Defend insurance company. Avoid

1
Compared to BUPA or AXXA which I had in the past, Aviva is a joke. Most reputable health insurers will have its own private GPs that will get you seen within minutes and if needed referred to a specialist straight away. Furthermore, MSK problems will not even need a referral and will simply go through their internal system when you request to be seen by a specialist. They will just ask a few questions and give you the list of available specialist to pick from. Aviva is old school insurance company making it as difficult as possible to get approved needing NHS GPs to refer you to a specialist and then if they need more information they will ask you to ask your NHS GP to fill in a form. This means that you then need to wait NHS waiting times usually over a month, for your NHS GP to fill in the forms for them to make a decision whether to approve or not. What is even the point of going private if you will then need to get NHS GPs in the middle of it all? Our company is due for renewal of the policy and will see what offer Bupa has in place. Hard to Reach!

Aviva are impossible to contact - after nearly an hour on the phone I resorted to email - they have very slow response times on that. I understand they were short of staff and recruiting at the time so I moved away from them. Reviewed on: 21st June 2024

Zero Excess. Great customer service.

I have my children covered by a health insurance policy. My 19 yr old daughter fell ill and needed some treatment. Following a very simple claims process, and without any excess, she was put together with a treatment provider who was able to manage the treatment and co-ordinate with the insurer to extend as necessary until she was well enough to continue without.
