Poor oncology team, poor communication style.

I unfortunately had cancer and my local private hospital referred me to a London hospital because the only surgeon who did what I needed was there. Aviva didn’t like that and while I was sat in the waiting to go to the hospital a girl on the line talked to me in a derogatory and condescending manner to say yes on this occasion they will cover the costs….. this was a life preserving operation I needed and they quibbled about it. The same through the whole process, the aviva staff treat you like a dog that’s insured, a lot of junior staff on the telephones who remind me of “computer says no” mentality. Healthcare insurance is taken out to make your health care easier, not have a battle with a bunch of juniors. I gave up telephoning in the end because I couldn’t face additional stress of dealing with these people on the phone, I only email. My healthcare plan is through work but I would not choose these if I took healthcare out personally. Reviewed on: 1st July 2025

Aviva scam health insurance

Have been paying Aviva for health insurance for my family for over 10 years. First time I have ever tried to use it and beyond a digital gp appointment I have been unable to progress a claim. Meanwhile I’m 5 weeks post injury and not on any list to see specialist that was referred by digital gp appointment. Can’t get anyone on the phone to progress nor online. No customer services outside of Monday to Friday. A total con, I’ve spent in excess of £12000 over my time with them for gp appointment. Terrible. Reviewed on: 25th May 2025

I used Aviva as part of my work health plan. The excess to pay is ridiculous. £250 for a service that you can have exactly the same on NHS. Not worth using. Reviewed on: 16th May 2025

Wait times are shorter on the NHS!!

Aviva do everything and anything not to pay or refer you to needed services! Their turn around on decisions is appalling considering you go to them to because of the NHS waiting lists, and they always try not to move forward in supporting you. DO NOT BOTHER! Reviewed on: 13th May 2025

Had a really good experience with Aviva for my partners back operation. They paid for everything in full from start to finish, we did have to wait on the phone for about 30 mins initially but I guess that's better than the NHS wait times. In fairness we did speak to a comparison site initially so they could make sure we actually had the level of cover we needed with them. But anyway, all round, really impressed! They do everything possible to make it hard to make a claim. Won’t even accept andr letter for a referral, make you get the dr to complete another form they they charge for and takes ages to sort. The firm even won’t print ! Outrageous Reviewed on: 1st May 2025

Aviva is a unless! When you actually need help, all you get is endless waiting, pointless admin, and zero support. I urgently needed to see a specialist — that's what private insurance is for, right? After nearly an hour on hold, I was told I needed my GP signature, even though it’s a three-week wait. an Aviva digital GP gave me a referral the next day, but Aviva still blocked me. They are quick to collect premiums but vanish when it’s time to deliver. Avoid Aviva if you value your health, your time, or your sanity. Hospital charged me a fortune, it was like a fraud, Aviva didn't provide the requested information, proof of payments they did, invoices from the hospital they received, they just do not want to really help you. They make you jump through so many hoops, I've phoned many times and it's always a bad experience. If it wasn't for my work i wouldn't have used them, now i need to pay about 1000k in total for just a simple health issue i had, cash back companies, are far better than Aviva. Ignored, denied, any excuse not to help you. They make you jump through so many hoops, I've phoned them very confused about the delays and all the repeated questions and ended up hanging up in tears because it was so stressful. My work pay for my policy but I've cancelled it today because my NHS GP is far more helpful and quicker to respond. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Reviewed on: 11th April 2025
