Appalling treatment of pensioners I have been an aviva customer for several years (both home and car insurance). I recommend them to my elderly parents for home cover. They had a water leak in their attached garage. They contacted aviva in June. A sub contractor (innovation), stated that they would need to dig to identify the cause. A £750 excess was taken. No digging was ever carried out, they came out several times and looked around, but no repairs carried out. The cause was not identified. They recommend my parents wait over the summer to see if it dries out. They leak continued to persist and worsen. They contacted Innovation and aviva again. Innovation came out and suggested that my parents must have "spilt" something and that they feel the issue is resolved. I rang aviva again today to state that the water damage is worsening and we are concerned about structural damage to the property. They stated that because the contractor has not identified any cause, then nothing further would be done. They will not/cannot get a second opinion and will not return the £750 excess that they took of pensioners and not resolved or even attempted to resolve the issue. The best they could offer was we could get an independent plumber (at our cost) and if a cause is found we could go back to them but no guarantee they will do anything about it. In short, they were happy to take a significant excess, with no attempt to resolve the issue (basically a call out charge) from an elderly couple. No warraning or explanation was given by Aviva or Innovation that this sum would not be returned even if no repairs took place. Appalling service. I will be cancelling all the policies I hold with them and have advised my parents to do the same. Read more Read less

Made a claim in July for a broken tailbone (Chronic Pain), and keep trying to contact them but took me days to get a phone number and longer to get an email. There has been no action on my claim and no contact from them. messaged them using the chat, but I have to leave my desk and by the time I come back they have closed the chat and all the information. I have emailed them for an update multiple times and 0 response. I would not recommend this service to my worst enemy. There is 0 care and seem to actually put up barriers to make any progress in any form of claim. Read more Read less

They are dealing with Barclays Travel Insurance. We missed our flight family of 4. We were attending an important function. We had to purchase another tickets, stayed in a hotel which was not planned and costed lots of money. After I have been paying month fee for over 20 years without no claim. They refused to reimburse us. This is a pure rip off. No need for an insurance like this Read more Read less

My elderly father contacted his insurance company after this company who he is with decided to increase his premium by hundreds of pounds whilst he’s been an excellent customer.

My father called me distressed that some man he talked to at this company was very rude to him And felt it was amusing with him trying to see if he could help reduce his insurance quote which had excessively increased and with no accidents to report that has been caused by my dad.

I have authorisation to talk on my father‘s behalf and I also called this company to complain. I could not believe what happened next.

The lady on the phone with a foreign accent was one of the most rudest, unhelpful, challenging persons I have ever met.

She placed me on hold twice for no reason she was rude, abrasive, and totally disrespectful.

Her tone and attitude towards me was extremely bad

Her name she said was Mbali or similar with the call taking place on the 5th of August between 10:15 and 10:30. This is an approximate time.

Before the lady, if you could call her that as she was so rude certainly not acting like a lady and certainly not acting professional laughed if you listen to the call towards the end.

Laughed because she thought it was funny. My father was disabled, she laughed because she thought it was funny that I was trying to help him. I was complaining about her attitude to her how appalling

. When I asked for her name, I don’t know if this is a real name But she rudely questioned me about why I needed of it, and I explained for my complaint to which she had laughed and she terminated the call without my consent!

I then decided to use live chat and had to insist on your operative to register a complaint, again this was very difficult to do.

If you look at the complaint notes on the chat, you will see that I had to ask more than once to confirm my complaint was raised and I asked for the complaint reference number which I was not provided. I was told my complaint was open and I listed the details of the complaint within the chat asking your staff to ensure it was logged correctly.

Absolutely the worst insurance company I have ever had the misfortune to talk to.

To all customers even if you think you’ve had a good experience remember when you need help, they are not there. The service is appalling and the sense that I got was that with them being in overseas call Centre they really feel untouchable for any complaint and make it very very difficult for a customer to get help. I will be reporting this company to the ombudsman and the FCA in the UK for this Canadian owned company. We have terminate the policy on its renewal date which is due on the 10th of August as it was important NOT have this HORRID AND APPALLING company have any dealings with my father.

I wonder how many customers leave this company due to extremely bad staff. The whole process was appalling and disgraceful.
AVIVA YOU HAVE caused a lot of upset to my father and wasted a lot of my valuable time.

My opinion would be to avoid at all cost to all customers reading this trust me they won’t be helpful based on my experience. Date of experience: 05 August 2025 Read more Read less

Payment of single premium on the 10 March 2025 which as at todays date 8 July has still not been allocated to my account. After a spurious requests for certified documentation, which unfortunatly for them I was able to provide immediatly. I believe they use tatic to deliberatly delay the process. I have followed up on numerous occasions until 8 weeks ago I raised an official complaint. This is the response to the official complaint. "Further to our previous communication, I am sorry for currently being unable to provide you with a final response to your complaint. This is due to an unprecedented level of demand from our customers which our team are currently working through. I hope to provide a decision to you by 05 August 2025. I do just need to let you know about your right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, as we have been unable to provide you with a decision at this time. You will still have the same rights to refer your complaint once a decision has been issued to you." They are obviously in a total mess and the only thing that will work with companys like this are if the Financial /pension regulator steps in and starts taking action. One does not need the aggravation that these companies cause to their clients. Read more Read less

I unfortunately had cancer and my local private hospital referred me to a London hospital because the only surgeon who did what I needed was there. Aviva didn’t like that and while I was sat in the waiting to go to the hospital a girl on the line talked to me in a derogatory and condescending manner to say yes on this occasion they will cover the costs….. this was a life preserving operation I needed and they quibbled about it. The same through the whole process, the aviva staff treat you like a dog that’s insured, a lot of junior staff on the telephones who remind me of “computer says no” mentality. Healthcare insurance is taken out to make your health care easier, not have a battle with a bunch of juniors. I gave up telephoning in the end because I couldn’t face additional stress of dealing with these people on the phone, I only email. My healthcare plan is through work but I would not choose these if I took healthcare out personally. Read more Read less

Make sure you screenshot and save to your photos all of your holiday booking details. Insurance Policy through Nationwide Flex A/C. Paid £60 extra for our health conditions. Had not fit to fly claim due to fall. Cost £25 for a Drs letter, not claimable. They’ve stopped £100 excess off it. They’re stopping £26 airport duty, (APD) so I’ve just had to send an email to jet2 customer services to claim that back from Birmingham airport, they take 28 days to deal with your emails!! Found out on the internet they charge £25 admin fee, so wasn’t worth claiming. Has taken 3 weeks to sort out, emails with automated replies. . Chased up by telephone, dealt with very helpful man Michael, queried the date I actually booked the holiday on last year. I should be refunded in next 5 to 10 days. Loss £151.00 off the original claim. Ongoing hospital treatment. Read more Read less
