AXA Travel Insurance. the worst ever!

AXA Travel Insurance was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. They happily took my money, but the moment I actually needed help, they became impossible to deal with. Endless delays, generic copy-paste responses, and agents who seemed completely uninterested in resolving anything. The claims process felt intentionally complicated. Every time I submitted documents, they asked for more pointless paperwork just to drag things out longer. Communication was terrible — I had to chase them constantly for updates, and even then I barely got a proper answer. What pushed this from frustrating to completely unacceptable was that they actually claimed my travel agency didn’t physically exist as an excuse not to pay out my claim — despite the fact that it absolutely does exist and operates normally. It felt like they were looking for any reason possible to avoid paying rather than handling the claim fairly and honestly. For a company that advertises “peace of mind,” AXA delivered the exact opposite. Stressful, frustrating, and completely unreliable when it mattered most. I would strongly recommend avoiding AXA travel insurance and choosing a provider that actually supports its customers instead of treating them like a burden. Read more Read less

AXA have consistently denied legitimate… AXA have consistently denied legitimate claims for covered items, even resorting to approving and then denying claims. As these were for life threatening medical situations, they have been totally uncaring and disinterested. Leading me to have to self-fund specialist treatments. Frankly anything other than minor problems have been totally denied, costing 10's of thousands of pounds, despite astronomica insurance premiums. Terrible! Axa has responded and below is addtional information on the details. Reply from AXA Health A day ago Hi, Mark Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We are very sorry to hear of the level of service you have experienced. If you would like us to look into anything for you, please feel free to contact us directly at AXA Online Response Team Kind Regards, Lily. My Response, Hello, I believe AXA confirmed multiple times, they reviewed my claims and found they were within their rights…. Irrespective of my conditions. Let me just explain. I had a initial biopsy in 2017 for a raised PSA, the results were negative. So I did not have prostate cancer. Then in 2023, I had a follow-up PSA test and biopsy with the NHS. This came back as positive for prostate cancer. When I applied for cover, AXA said they had already treated me for Prostate cancer, factually incorrect as the 2017 examination did not find cancer. This led to me having to self-fund a prostate operation costing in excess of £30k !!!! Outrageous. Various other medical claims were subsequently denied. However, in March 2025 I suffered a Cardiac Arrest and was treated by the NHS. As a follow-up I went to have a review and stress test for my heart in May 2025. I raised a claim which was approved for these tests and using that I booked with the Cleveland Clinic in London, when I submitted this claim having funded around £2000 myself, AXA then said they would not pay it because they were in dispute with the Doctor I was given and booked… absolutely ridiculous that with an approved claim, with a industry recognised specialist, because AXA were in some kind of dispute with the DR they refused to fund. As you can imagine, I view all of this with total outrage as my £8000 per year premium is not exactly cheap !!!. If you believe you can get anywhere by all means review, but I have almost no confidence that AXA will reverse any of their decisions as I already made many complaints. Basically, AXA have behaved exactly how many people describe insurance companies, they are pure profit engines primarily designed to maximise fees and minimise payments. Appalling. Unfortunately, after being insured with AXA for several years, when the time came to make a claim following an accident at my property, the process has been extremely disappointing. I have been dragged through the claims process for years with no settlement, no resolution, and very little communication. My claim remains unresolved, and I have been left in the dark with no meaningful support from AXA. Read more Read less

In nearly 90 years of life no other company has heaped on me anything like the cumulative anguish and misery as is the case with AXA Trsvel Insurance. Profoundly unorofessional. Numerous are the obstacles they put in my way and they totally failed to provide me with a repatriation flight despite my policy including that provision, which I invoked due to being hospitalised overseas. .As a result, with hours to spare I had to suddenly find and fund a honeward flight costing me over £1k. When I submitted my claim quoting all the policy and reference numbers, flight details and price they replied protesting I hadn't used the correct format, grrrrrrrr! Previously I've used the benchmark excellent CO-OP who rose to the occasion magnificently when I needed them. Avoid AXA, they didn't even get off the ground. Read more Read less

I submitted a curtailment claim to AXA Travel Insurance on 6th August 2025 for £7,499.66, covering myself, my wife, and our two children after the sudden passing of my father. On 3rd October, I received a settlement letter for just £2,405.94 a shortfall of over £5,000. The AXA online portal, however, still shows the claim as “Settled” with a value of £7,416.77. I am unsure where this figure has come from, as my original claim was for £7,499.66. AXA have provided no explanation for these discrepancies. The lack of clarity has left me to reasonably conclude that AXA may have treated the claim as if it only applied to my share of the holiday, despite the Policy Schedule clearly listing four insured travellers. However, without an explanation from AXA, this remains unclear. Throughout this process, I have also been given contradictory information on the phone at one point told my claim had been rejected as the person dealing with my claim inputted the wrong amount and another that the offer would be “around £2,000.” The complaints team themselves told me I should never have been given the £2,000 figure, as the claim had not been settled. On another call, when I rang the claims team for an update, I was told they could not answer my questions because the complaints team were now dealing with it, and I would need to speak to them directly. This has been a very distressing and poorly handled experience at an already difficult time. Read more Read less
