    Mixed Experience

I really used to like this company, we made a claim a few years ago and I was impressed by their service. HOWEVER ... Our annual renewal has just come up and the premium has been increased by over 40% with no change in our circumstances or any claims in the last 18 months. I queried this and the advisor seemed as baffled as me, he listed the factors that can increase premiums but agreed that none seemed to apply in our case. They were unable/unwilling to review the quote but advised me to cancel my existing policy and start again as a new customer. The new premium was 50% less than the renewal quote. Same dog, same policy but now the premium is half price - this makes no sense to me at all. The original adviser was polite and friendly but his colleague on the quote line was the opposite - reminded me of the "computer says no" character in Little Britain. They also claimed my dog has a condition which she doesn't and which my vet is happy to confirm is not the case but they have misinterpreted the information the vet sent regarding our previous claim and simply refuse to admit they are mistaken. I see another reviewer had a similar experience. Such a shame as I thought I had found a good company but they are only interested in new business at the expense of existing customers. On the run up to Christmas last year my cat just isn't right, a bit mopey, didn't want to go outside, off food etc, but though we will leave it a few days and wait and see. So of course its christmas morning my cat goes from not quite right to really ill, poor boy wouldn't even get out his bed for catnip which normally he goes mad for! Emergency trip to the vet hospital in Glasgow and sure enough he had an infection, £800 on credit card later after blood tests and antibiotics and he is home in time to eat Christmas dinner with us. Luckily we had insurance otherwise it wouldn't not have been a very merry Christmas! But my boy was happy again and so were we. Read more Read less

After 1 year I renewed the insurance, at which point the admin team made the mistake of cancelling the first years cover and taking out a second year on a separate cover. When she needed cover for a blood test, the helpucover refused to cover the test and then proceed to add 4 conditions to her insurance policy! When I tried to explain the situation, I was fobbed off with rude staff. Even after having a conversation with my vet, where she stated that the conditions they had put on her insurance policy were completely incorrect and they had misinterpreted everything which was stated in the vet records, they still refused to remove the conditions. Please can I note that these 'conditions' stemmed from her biting her paw! She apparently has fore leg, hind leg and skin conditions! These types of insurance companies put veterinary practice into very hard situations where vets don't like to write anything on their vets records because insurance companies hold this against you! Please do not use this company; what comes across as being cheap at first glance is not! Cheap service is bad service! Read more Read less

The insurance was purchase and I believe we would have cover if the dog at an accident Unfortunely teddy was hit by a child scooter which discloated his hip some £4000 pound later, we found out the cover was for £500 and maximum of £2000 in any year per condition. Helpucover.co.uk mission statement is "fill the gaps other insurance leaves behind" This is a third party cover for dog For pace of mind avoid this company at all cost Read more Read less

Good level of cover, good customer service and not the most expensive premiums

We've been using Helpucover for our labrador since she was a pup. She's now 20 months old. Can't compare to other insurance companies, but we had one large claim for £900 in the first six months and it was processed quickly and without any quibble and our premium only went up by £3 a month at renewal date. We pay about £41 a month and live in London. We have the highest level of cover called Premier Lifetime. From my experience so far, I would recommend. Read more Read less
