Didn't get as far as opening the account

For a bank that's supposed to be all about 'being modern' and prides itself on great customer service, I had a pretty useless time with First Direct. I tried to switch my current account over to the first account, but had to chase them up on it twice, and then they wanted me to verify my identity with a call to my place of work, and required a passport photo or similar signed by a doctor. I thought this was supposed to be the 21st century... If I can open an account with Atom ... Reviewed on: 12th July 2016

FirstDirect still doing the business in a personal way

First direct keep me informed without bombarding me relentlessly with emails and texts. They inform of product offerings, statements and interest rate changes in periodic and timely fashion. Support to a nomadic lifestyle

I’ve lived quite a nomadic life over the past 40 years, living and working primarily in SE Asia and Europe. Banking was always problematic until First Direct appeared on the scene. It was the first bank that gave me the support I desired. Its customer service and security has been second to none. I still use this bank as my primary current account in the UK but combine its excellent facilities with Revolut to add an extra layer of security whilst travelling. Reviewed on: 26th February 2025
